Posted: 01 Oct 2021 03:43 PM PDT Since updating to Safari 15 I've been getting crashes left and right - adding to Reading List, rearranging tabs, going fullscreen...and it seems I'm not the only one. Safari Technology Preview is supposed to be the 'beta' version of Safari but I've been using it for the past 3 months and I've had none of the issues I suddenly got with the 'stable' (lol) Safari 15 release. And I think the new compact design is a joy to use. (clarification: same compact design as Safari 15) Try it out! https://developer.apple.com/safari/download/ [link] [comments]

Recent Windows to MacOS converts, how have you found your transition? Posted: 01 Oct 2021 11:12 PM PDT I'm about to take the plunge and just wondering. Did you get used to it quickly and is there anything you don't like or miss? What's better? [link] [comments]
Safari 15 is not yet optimized for Big Sur Posted: 01 Oct 2021 11:35 AM PDT I know that no one is surprised by this and the problem is quite massive. But I want to tell you about my experience. Just recently I rolled the system from Monterey back to Big Sur and everything was fine until I installed Safari 15. Initially I was happy because I like the new design with compact tabs, but when I saw how much it slowed down, I started freaking out. I felt so bad that I decided to reinstall the system again in hopes that it would help and didn't put the Safari update and what do you think? Everything was back to normal. I have the feeling that the system itself is even more responsive because of this. I hope that soon the browser will be optimized and it will be possible to update, but for now the update only spoils the impression of using the computer. If you want the normal experience back, just restore the system and don't install the latest Safari, it really helped me. [link] [comments]

MacBook Air lagging during video calls and playing videos Posted: 02 Oct 2021 12:32 AM PDT I have a 2017 MacBook Air running on Big Sur. I've noticed that it becomes extremely slow whenever I'm on an online call (especially Google Meet) — if my camera is switched on, it lags for me and the other person. Even when it's switched off, I have a difficult time browsing through other tabs since it takes double the time to load and isn't smooth. Apart from this, YouTube and other streaming sites tend to buffer as well. (Have tried Safari and Chrome, but no difference) Is there any way I can solve this? I was also considering upgrading to the 2020 Macbook Air but I'd prefer continuing with this one. Appreciate any tips you can give me! [link] [comments]

Posted: 02 Oct 2021 01:52 AM PDT On both Chrome and Safari, many sites still say "Your connection is not secure" with the CA x3 thing. I read that upgrading beyond El Capitan would help, but the problem is still with Sierra. Should I upgrade to High Sierra? Thanks! [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 Oct 2021 01:20 AM PDT I have a script to copy/paste text into google translate for reading pdf documents, the script uses the key combination "command + j", and every time I press it a sound plays, is there a way to turn it off? [link] [comments]
Safari 15 Sidebar Reading List vs Bookmarks and uninstalling Posted: 02 Oct 2021 01:03 AM PDT Recently updated to Safari 15, does anyone know if you can set the sidebar to just the reading list or to at least how it used to work? Can't fathom why Apple have made it categorically worse, I have a lot of subscriptions and read a lot for work so having the reading list pop out was really handy. Failing that, is it possible to reinstall 14.2 until 15 is made competent? Thank you [link] [comments]
Did Apple update Mac OS to natively support dual displays over M1? Posted: 01 Oct 2021 02:38 PM PDT My co-worker says she can run two displays with her M1 MacBook Pro, no special software or setup required. I thought that wasn't possible with the M1 macs but was there an update that pushed this functionality? Google is flooded with workarounds and I don't see a straight answer. [link] [comments]

Trying to Update/Upgrade 10.8.5 (Mountain Lion) to 10.15.7 (Catilina) Posted: 01 Oct 2021 10:11 PM PDT I'm trying to upgrade an '11" Macbook Air (mid 2012)' to 10.15.7. Later would probably be fine, but I'd prefer 10.15.7 (I'm not really a Mac/Apple user, but my gf is, and she uses 10.15.7, so I'd just like us to just have the same exact OS so she could help me with Mac/Apple-stuff). I'm following this guide: https://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000337.htm, but I do not have a line that says anything about Catiliuna. Sorry for the hopeless question.. [link] [comments]

Invalid Certificate Fix (MacOS El Capitan) Posted: 01 Oct 2021 04:18 AM PDT Spent hours researching and eventually came across a post linked here; Hopefully this works for you guys as it did for me. I am on El Capitan 10.11.6 and spent too long trying to figure it out. Why certification expiry isn't publicly broadcast is beyond me...

Is this how macOS and it's derivatives are built? Posted: 01 Oct 2021 11:04 AM PDT Is this correct? I'm an IT student BTW that's why I'm asking... - XNU which is a hybrid kernel being based on Carnegie Mellon's Mach + BSD... XNU is opensource...; - On top there's Darwin, the actual operating system, which is purely CLI based, like other *nix OSes... modern versions use ZSH as their default command shell... (This is the reason why when we type "uname -a" on the terminal it says "Darwin" instead of macOS...) - And on top of it all... we have the Quartz Compositor graphical server, which performs the same function as Wayland or X11 + Apple's proprietary Aqua DE with all of its graphical tools like the Finder (or SpringBoard in the case of iOS and iPadOS...), the Disk Utility, etc... This final graphical layer is the thing we users call macOS. [link] [comments]
Is Big Sur (11.6) still slow on older intel MBPs? Posted: 01 Oct 2021 01:54 PM PDT I've tried all the Big Sur versions on my 13 inch 2015 MBP and I always came back to Mojave. The performance difference was just too noticeable. Apple stopped releasing security updates for Mojave, so I'm thinking of going to Big Sur, but not if it's going to be laggy. Anyone with older intel MBP who can share their experience? [link] [comments] |
