What is the one Mac hack/feature that you learned after years of usage that you now love? Posted: 10 Aug 2021 10:50 AM PDT For me it is making use of spaces when using multiple apps/windows. 11 years I've been using Macs and never used spaces. The ability to jump between them with shortcuts and keep all my open apps in fullscreen has improved my workflow 1,000%. Also, BetterTouchTool. Although it can be buggy for me, the customized shortcuts are incredible. I could say adding 12 more GB of RAM and an SSD to my aging mid-2011 iMac also. 10 years later and this iMac is literally faster than the day I bought it. [link] [comments]
Shift file creation date by 2 days? Posted: 10 Aug 2021 10:57 PM PDT [Edit/SOLVED] Literally tried Photomechanic to see if it can adjust time & date, as well as creation date in the file and it works flawlessly. Leaving this here in case someone else needs help. Hey Friends, I have a ton of videos from multiple cameras but one of them had their date wrong. Their time was correct but the day was set to -2 days. Does anyone know a way that one can batch edit the creation date of video files to add 2 days? Leaving everything else exactly as is? I am not familiar with scripts or terminal commands; this seems to be the most common solution on the internet and I have no idea what I am doing with all of that. Thanks so much! Best Thunderbolt Dock for M1 Macs Posted: 11 Aug 2021 12:29 AM PDT Ok, so I picked up the Mac Mini 2021 version w/ 10Gb ethernet earlier this year and have been using the Elgato TB3 Mini dock. It has not been a good experience as you cannot have two displays connected (confirmed by Elgato's website) and occasionally the screen will just flicker out for no reason. Unplugging and plugging it back in works with only limit success. Recently it has been doing this more frequently and I've had enough and am ready to through down some cash for a solution that actually works. So, to any M1 users out there what docks do you recommend that will properly work with Apple Silicon? I've looked into TB4 docks, the few that that exist, and was scared off by the prices (Sonnet's cost nearly a third of the price of my Mac!) but if it works properly I'd definitely consider it. Can’t write on NTFS drive despite having a program for it Posted: 10 Aug 2021 10:28 PM PDT NTFS drives can't be written on Mac generally, obviously. I have the Paragon NTFS For Mac program to compensate, Had no problems with it; a few months ago I moved a bunch of large audio and video files, made a bunch of new folders, organized a bunch of stuff, it was a swell time. It was literally fine in early July. Now it's in read-only mode. I don't know what changed. Haven't updated my OS in forever, I uninstalled and reinstalled the Paragon application a bunch of times, no dice. It's a 2TB Seagate external hard drive by the way, and I've only used up about 200 GB. Not sure what version of the Paragon program it is. Mac is a macbook pro laptop, OS is High Sierra 10.13.6. I'm using the account that has both reading & writing permissions for this drive. Any ideas on how to fix? I really want to be able to use up the rest of that storage and also keep what I have. Posted: 10 Aug 2021 10:50 AM PDT Hi, I have a MacBook Air M1 with 8GB and was wondering the other day if it was worth upgrading to 16GB. So I wanted to ask in this subreddit if there is anyone out there who has compared it and can tell me if the $200 upgrade is worth it. [link] [comments]

Posted: 10 Aug 2021 06:09 PM PDT Everytime I try to open any app from the mac I want to move or delete files/apps from it says I can't open it cause it's damaged or incomplete. Is there any workaround at all. From the way it looks it sounds like to me that I'll have to wipe my drive and it's so fucking unfortunate bc what fucking update in the year 2021 doesn't check if there's enough space to update before updating. I don't usually get upset at technology because things are bound to fail but this is utterly ridiculous. I hope somebody out there smarter than me can tell me what to do because idk shit. And just to make it clear I didn't actually delete anything in terminal I never used the "rm" or whatever. I didn't want to mess anything up that would prevent me from fixing the problem in the future. Images ; https://imgur.com/a/PKs4F1d [link] [comments]

Clicking/popping noise on audio start (2019 MacBook Pro 16”) Posted: 10 Aug 2021 04:18 PM PDT I recently got a 2019 16-inch MacBook Pro, and I've been noticing a clicking/popping noise (similar to the sound you sometimes hear when plugging in headphones) when playing a video, listening to audio, or pressing play in an After Effects project, etc. It seems to only happen if I start playing something with audio when there is nothing else playing. It will happen when a YouTube video loads up for the first time or when I reload the page. It's mainly noticeable when using headphones, but if I listen closely, I can also hear a shorter, fainter clicking sound through the MacBook speakers when my headphones are unplugged. I even tested the issue in Windows through Boot Camp, and the issue persists, so it seems it might be a hardware problem. I've seen other people talk about this issue. For example: https://www.reddit.com/r/macbookpro/comments/go62q3/does_anyone_else_have_a_13_macbook_pro_2020/ I've already tried resetting the NVRAM/PRAM and SMC and using different headphones, and I just fresh installed a copy of Big Sur the other day, since I just got this computer. I heard about the problems people were having with popping sounds from the 16" MacBook speaker, but I thought those was supposed to have already be resolved in a software update. I'm currently working around the issue by having an ambient noise app (Noizio) play in the background at 0 volume, as suggested by someone on a thread I read. Opening the QuickTime audio recording screen and then just leaving it minimized in the background also works. Those workarounds prevent the popping sounds, but I'd really like to find a better/more permanent solution. Any help is appreciated! [link] [comments]
Need help making dynamic wallpapers Posted: 10 Aug 2021 05:28 PM PDT Hey guys, I was trying to make my own dynamic wallpapers using two tools that both failed. the first tool was Dynamicwallpaper.club and the other was Wallpapper. Both of which broke. Dynamicwallpaper.club is in disrepair (can't even search for a wallpaper) and Wallpapper breaks the times of the wallpaper that I make. I really don't know what to do. I need someone to recommend a good script to convert multiple images to one HEIC file using a json or py file to give the HEIC file the timings for the images. Could somebody recommend something else that will work? i've been at this for 2 months. [link] [comments]

Recovery mode on external display? Posted: 10 Aug 2021 12:04 PM PDT Broke the display of the 16inch 2019 MacBook Pro. I want to format the laptop, but can't get the recovery menu/screen on the external monitor, that seems to be going to the laptop screen. Already tried removing the display cable under the hood. Any other suggestions? The Apple logo shows up fine on the external display, so I know that laptop is fine. [link] [comments]
Posted: 10 Aug 2021 05:32 PM PDT So, back when Macs had Intel chips, you could pretty much run just about any application or program on MacOS that was also available on Windows. Obviously not everything, but there was enough that you could stick to MacOS. This includes virtualization programs like VirtualBox. But now, since the release of the M1, the options for downloading and installing third party software that is supported on this system are quite limited. I'm just curious how long you all think it will be until developers are making their programs compatible with M1. [link] [comments]

App to remove images based on filename Posted: 10 Aug 2021 04:42 PM PDT I've been unable to work out the right way of phrasing this question to get a good result out of Google. I've got folders full of thousands of images that are variants of each other in size only, thanks to a disaster with a previous app. I'm trying to find an app that would select all images based on filename criteria alone. Imagine that that folder contains:
All of the photos are identical, just smaller versions of 001-longrandomimagename-original.jpg I want to delete -copy, -small, -thumbnail *where* -original exists; just to make things complicated, in the same folder there's also
In that case, the original is missing and I want to keep the copy, and delete the rest. I've been trying to find an app that would filter/match/sort and select based on partial filename criteria, to try and reduce the amount of by-hand work I need to do. Any suggestions? [link] [comments]

Removing Old iCloud Tabs from MacBook Pro Posted: 10 Aug 2021 04:36 PM PDT Hello, I recently noticed that old Safari tabs that I had open on my MacBook Pro running MacOS Big Sur 11.5.1 are showing up in the Safari iCloud tabs when under my MacBook when I use a separate device such as my iPad or iPhone. I cannot remove them by swiping left and tapping close either, and I tried signing out of iCloud on my MacBook, iPhone, and iPad and signing back into no avail. I did get prompted on my iPhone to merge my Safari data when signing back into iCloud. I am pretty sure resetting my device to factory settings will do the trick but is there any other solution? I contacted Apple Support but about 20 minutes into the support their online chat mysteriously disconnects. This has happened twice already, so I was wondering if you all had similar experiences and a solution for this bug. EDIT: I fixed this temporarily by signing out of iCloud on ALL my devices using the same Apple ID. Then, I signed back in, and I guess this forced all devices to resynchronize, thereby fixing the issue. [link] [comments] |
