iPad Pro lidar App for land survey/mapping? Posted: 31 Aug 2021 10:40 AM PDT Is there any good lidar mapping apps that would be good for mapping land? Had land cleared recently and would like to walk and map it to help with building/designing with architect. Similar to what say MagicPlan does for house floor plans. Won't be a replacement for a real land survey, more for my own fun and planning. [link] [comments]
It's shocking how horrible it is reading a pdf on the iPad Posted: 30 Aug 2021 09:09 PM PDT For the past few months, I've been doing a project on my iPad where I read pdfs while taking notes on Pages, multitasking with the pdf occupying 70% of the screen and Pages 30%. This method really works well for me, and makes good use of the iPad's advantages. I have a 2018 iPad, which is still running perfectly. Until very recently, I was using Google Play Books to read the pdfs, because I like its simple interface. But today I realized that Google Play had turned my 7 MB pdfs into 1.3 GB monsters. So I decided to find a new app. To do so, I needed to upload my pdfs onto my iPad again because no other app will read the files on Google Play. I don't transfer files on my iPad very often (every few years), and my instinct is to just plug it into the PC and copy the files over when I'm transferring files. I know I can't do this with file explorer like I would with a USB stick or hard drive, but I figured I'd see if I could still do it with iTunes. But when I plug in my iPad into my PC, even though the iPad and iTunes and my PC recognize each other, somehow the verification doesn't complete and iTunes can't transfer anything to the iPad. Maybe my cord is botched or my software is slightly out of date; in any case, I gotta try something new. So next I try emailing my pdfs to myself, because that's my next instinct to transfer files. So I do it, but because the files are apparently a bit too big, they get sent as Google Drive links. The links open in Safari, where Google isn't signed in since I don't use it often. So I have to go through the hassle of signing in. When I finally open a pdf in Google Drive, it turns out that the Google Docs interface is so chunky that I just can't use it. So next I decide to try Dropbox, which I haven't used for a while. I upload my files, re-install Dropbox on the iPad, sign in, and in a second all my files are on the iPad. This is where things really start to go loco. I want to transfer my pdfs to the Books app. I transfer them easily, but do you know what happens next? Books automatically zooms out of the pdf, filling no more than 50% of the screen when multitasking with Pages. So it's impossible to read my pdfs while taking notes unless I want to squint or manually zoom in the whole time. So next I try Kindle. Ha! Kindle is a joke. To send it to the Kindle, I have to create a "link" with some weird custom name. When I open this "link" on the Kindle app, it turns out that it had turned my 600 page pdf into just 2 pages, one of which just has that weird custom title and the second page just a blurry cropped image of the first page of the pdf. Next I try adobe. I download Adobe Reader, but it doesn't install because my OS isn't completely up to date. Mea Culpa. I next try Adobe Editions. It opens the pdf alright, but unfortunately it's unable to multitask with Pages so I can't use it. Finally, after all that, I serendipitously discover that I can read pdfs straight out of Dropbox. It's not ideal because I'd really prefer using an ebook or pdf app, and the text renders a little funny, but at least it fills the page when multitasking unlike Books. So the saga is done. Why was this so difficult - why did I face so many unnecessary, stupid roadblocks because I wanted to read a friggin' pdf on my iPad? What am I missing here? Would using Apple Cloud have made the process all sunshine and rainbows? If so, how? If Apple is supposed to be this walled garden that restricts the user's options to make it easier and more "intuitive" to use, why is the experience so frustrating every time I try to do something like this? Don't ask about the time I tried to get a highly detailed jpeg of a map onto the thing... [link] [comments]

iPad Pro 12.9 3rd party keyboard that splits? Posted: 31 Aug 2021 01:31 PM PDT Trying to find a way to have my new iPad split the keyboard. Apple says : "Note: The split keyboard option is not available on iPad Pro 11-inch and iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd generation and later" So is there a third party keyboard that can allow this? Can't find anything on google Thats recent [link] [comments]
HDR content at low brightness for 12.9" M1 iPad Posted: 31 Aug 2021 02:16 PM PDT Has anyone observed that HDR content at low brightness for M1 iPad is ridiculously high to an extent where it's uncomfortable to watch in the dark. I like to watch something before I sleep but I've to avoid these as it's really harsh on my eyes. Is there anyway this can be rectified? [link] [comments]
How to right click in safari without mouse? Posted: 31 Aug 2021 12:57 PM PDT I've tested with a mouse and it's ok, it opens a context menu. But no way of doing it with touch + keyboard… Any idea? [link] [comments]
Poor performance on remote desktop with wireless sidecar regardless of protocol. Posted: 31 Aug 2021 12:15 PM PDT I'm currently using a 8gb 7core gpu m1 air. I nust found that wireless sixecar with remote desktop (whichever protocol you use) results and poor performance in the remote desktop. The MBA is still snappy but you lose a lot of performance in the remote desktop instance. It seems better if my sidecar is plugged in directly. If you can test this out or have something to add please state it here. [link] [comments]
How much pressure / compression can an iPad safely handle inside of a bag before it gets damaged? Posted: 30 Aug 2021 04:01 PM PDT As titled; how much compression can the iPad Pro take before it starts to damage the iPad and / or Magic keyboard? I always have at least one of my iPads with me, sometimes two. I splurged & got myself the 11" and 12.9" M1 a few months ago. I've owned iPads ever since the very first model came out in 2010. I always take very good care of all my stuff, especially my tech, since it's how I make a living. I've always worried about my iPads inside my various bags I carry; how much compression can the iPad Pro take before it starts to damage the iPad and / or Magic keyboard? I try to never cram my bags totally full, but sometimes, especially on out of town trips, carrying more stuff is just unavoidable. This has always worried me.... I don't want to crush my iPads! Thanks!!! [link] [comments]
Will iPad Pro have a better or more desktop-like OS in the future? Posted: 30 Aug 2021 06:37 PM PDT Hey guys, I'm wondering whether to buy iPad pro. I'm totally convinced on it as a device for consumption... Problem is, I'm not entirely certain about it as a device for productivity. I feel like a more desktop option oriented (or at least better optimised) OS would be much better for me. Current form doesn't seem up to snuff for good multi tasking The iPad pro has an M1 chip, so I'm excited that I won't need to replace it any time soon, but do you think we can expect some iPad OS updates that better the user experience in the future?
