Apple TV Screen mirror quality question

Apple TV Screen mirror quality question

    Screen mirror quality question

    Posted: 16 Aug 2021 09:45 PM PDT

hi, i have a sony x900h and i did a screen mirror from my imac to the tv (both in the same room) and there's definitely some delay when i move the mouse or open apps and in general. I was wondering if with the new 4k apple tv, would this issue still be there or has apple tv solved that delay issue? Just as a side note i do have a very good router so there's no limitation there and i have very good internet as well.

Planning to purchase this Sony 5.1 soundbar. I also have a hdmi audio extractor, which can output toslink optical to this HT set. Will surround sound will work through this setup? Do i have to set the audio format auto or dolby digital?

Airplay 2 Only audio connection from AppleTV (i.e. no wired connection for sound)

    Posted: 16 Aug 2021 07:43 PM PDT

I have an Apple TV 4K (latest gen) mounted to the back of my TV and all works great using the built-in TV speakers as it should.

However I have ceiling surround speakers that are not accessible from the TV (home run to a utility area) that I would love to be using. Would it be possible to hard-wire ethernet in a new DD / Atmos receiver to the ceiling speakers and just set the Apple TV to permanently send audio via Airplay 2 to the receiver? I would have everything hard wired via gigabit ethernet - not WiFi.

If this works reliably it would be my nirvana - video via HDMI to the TV and Airplay2 via ethernet to a remote receiver.

Setting up Apple TV 4K as standalone device

    Posted: 17 Aug 2021 02:20 AM PDT

Hi there, first time caller. I just bought an Apple TV 4K, which is my first Apple device ever.

So I make an Apple ID because I see you can't even download free apps without one (why?), and they want a phone number. Okay, thats garbage, but whatever.

So I go to log in with my newly 'verified' Apple ID, and am told by my TV that I have 'no iTunes Store Account', the solution to which the internet says is to log in to a Mac or an iPhone. Which I don't have.

Am I shit out of luck? Does Apple want this thing back or what?

Opening .ite (iTunes Extras Files) in 2021

    Posted: 16 Aug 2021 07:46 PM PDT

So I purchased the Lord of the Rings Extended Edition Trilogy on iTunes probably like 8 years ago at this point.

As any hardcore LOTR fan film knows, one of the best parts of the Extended Editions films is the package of behind the scenes documentaries that were so carefully and beautifully crafted. I used to be able to watch this content on my Mac no problem.

But with Apple's endless updates, rebrands, and failed attempts at becoming Netflix, not only have they made the movie browsing and watching experience incredible painful, it seems like I cannot even open the extra bonus content from the LOTR movies I purchased years ago. The only option is to press play on the movie. I've given up hope trying to watch this content via the Apple TV app on my smart TV. I have the files here on my computer (a .ite package) and I'm just trying to figure out how to open these files and watch their contents in 2021.

Does anybody have any advice? I've tried the basic Googling and the only rec I found was to try opening the .ite file in QuickTime Player (which sadly didn't work).

Need help with audio, samsung tv, sonos, apple 4ktv

    Posted: 16 Aug 2021 02:49 PM PDT

Hello all I currently own a Samsung 4K TV from 2017. It has HDR, 4K and both dolby digital 5.1 and 5.1 plus but no atmos and it has no EARC just ARC.

When I go on netflix/hbo max etc on my tv built in-apps it display that the audio is running on "dolby digital 5.1 plus" on my sonos ARC app. When I connect my apple 4kTV 2021 those apps show up as "dolby digital 5.1" only on the sonos app.

Anyone know what is going on?

Tldr: TV built in app shows 5.1 plus, apple 4ktv only shows 5.1 on the sonos app.

"You're not connected to the internet" happening daily now after sleep mode. Apple 4K 1st gen

    Posted: 16 Aug 2021 11:24 AM PDT

For 2 years, I've had this problem with this error message. I think it happened after a firmware upgrade. I have the latest. It was happening every few days, but now it's daily. Ethernet connection. Rebooting fixes it until the next day. I saw some people had this issue, but a firmware fixed theirs, but mine is still an issue. First world problem, but still annoying.

My wifi is down and I'm trying to watch Hulu or YouTube on my phone. It plays normally on my phone, but as soon as I hook it up to AirPlay it just gets locked in endless buffering. Any fixes?

Anyone else streaming games using the Moonlight app on AppleTV? Having some weird issues with it and just wanted to share experiences.

    Posted: 16 Aug 2021 10:21 AM PDT

It's not a super common combination of software and hardware, even though for my purposes it would be great if it worked perfectly, to basically be a streaming box from my gaming PC to my living room television. I'm using the AppleTV 4K model.

But no matter what I do, I seem to have continued issues with weird hitches and frame pacing, and I'm beginning to think it's just something to do with the implementation of the app on the AppleTV in particular, since my iPhone 12 using Moonlight works flawlessly from the same computer using the same bit rate etc. even on the same network.

And my iPhone 12 is connecting over Wi-Fi where is my Apple TV is hardwired to my router and then directly from that router to my computer.

Anyway, like I said, not super common so this is a bit of a longshot but I'm hoping someone else is trying to get this to work so I can see if anything has worked for you, or if you're experiencing the same issues I am.

Basically, if I'm playing some thing like Apex Legends through steam and Moonlight streaming to Apple TV for example, there is stuttery frames and hitching about every five out of 15 seconds and then it'll go smooth again for a little while and then start stuttering again. It's easy to notice when comparing it to how it plays on my iPhone (though obviously I'm not going to try to play Apex on my iPhone outside of testing at the firing range…)

What soundbar should I get for Apple TV 4K / LG UN7300?

    Posted: 16 Aug 2021 09:55 AM PDT

I'm looking at the below options. Since my TV only has one HDMI ARC connection (no eARC), are my options limited if I want to have Apple TV 4K (also only one HDMI port) as my primary streaming device? Can I still get a soundbar with just one HDMI port? If so, what's the best way to connect?

    Sonos Arc

    Sonos Beam

    Bose Soundbar 700

    Bose Soundbar 500

    Samsung HW-Q65T/ZA

    Samsung HW-N400

    JBL Bar 5.1

    LG SP8YA

    LG SN8YG

    LG SN11RG

    Vizio M512-H6

    Vizio SB36512-F6

    Vizio SB46312-F6

    Polk Audio Magnifi Max SR

    Polk Audio Command Bar

Let's say you have a bunch of videos on your (Windows) laptop and want to play them on your appletv, what's the best way of doing this?

Just curious what apps you use as it's not as seamless as android devices.

    A&E App Issues

    Posted: 16 Aug 2021 07:01 AM PDT

Does anyone else have problems with the A&E app? I can browse the catalog of shows, select an episode to stream, and it will fade to black with the loading spinner, but it never plays.

Currently having this issue on the OG AppleTV 4K on both the current stable release as well as the latest beta.
