| What's your long-term review of software development on the MacBook Air/Pro M1? Posted: 29 Aug 2021 11:36 PM PDT Hello everyone, I'll be starting my master's this Fall and have decided to make a switch from Windows (I don't think I need to give reasons for this lmao). I was wondering if I should go with the Air or the Pro (13). Couldn't really find along term review for software devs on M1. I generally use NodeJs, React, Android, been experimenting with Flutter and am planning to get started with Swift soon. Not much into AI/ML for now, but I've used Colab in the past of all my projects. Here are a couple of questions that I have for anyone who has had experience with it:

The only problem is that some of my courses may require certain applications that can only be downloaded using windows. I know I can download windows on the Mac but I prefer the Mac software. | Weird thing with my M1 MacBook Air Posted: 29 Aug 2021 03:13 PM PDT When I first got my macbook, if it had a stable surface, I could just put my finger into the gap in the bottom (in the middle of the bottom half of the closed MacBook) and open it up. The screen broke, and I sent it to get repaired. Now I have to put a fingernail between the two halves and then I can get it open. I cant just lift it up like I could before. I gave it a few months to see if it would go away, but it hasn't. Does anyone know what caused this and if I can fix it? [link] [comments]  | ||

I'm only concerned about if it'll mess up the laptop as some of the hubs earlier this year were frying MacBooks, but I did hear they patched it. I'm going back to school in a week, and ill be doing an internship 4 days a week and ill have to bring my macbook everyday for that. The volume on my left buds is much lower than the one on right. The problem only exists for MacBook. When I connect my phone there is no issue and both the buds have the same sound quality. | The MacBook Pro Mid 2012 is still awesome in 2021! (positive rant/easy minor issues) Posted: 29 Aug 2021 08:23 AM PDT I've had my MacBook Pro Mid 2012 running High Sierra as my daily since 2017 when it was passed down to me, and I have to say, for its age, it's still an amazing computer in 2021. I mainly use it to listen to music on Spotify, streaming videos, typing up all my documents, photo/video editing, and making music on GarageBand. The only upgrade I've done on it so far is installing 16gb of DDR3 ram in place of the original 4gb. I was running an SSD (Samsung EVO 860 500gb) for 6 months, but I had to go back to using the stock hard drive since I kept getting the spinning rainbow beach ball. I'm more than sure it's caused by a worn out SATA cable as I've read many people had that issue. I am thinking of replacing the SATA cable and installing a 1TB SSD. One more thing is I really need to re-do the thermal paste since it was probably never changed since 2012 😅. Overall, I don't think I'll be needing a new laptop anytime soon at all. Did I also mention the trackpad and keyboard are AMAZING? Yeah, the mid 2012 MacBook Pro is definitely one of Apple's greatest MacBooks. [link] [comments]  | ||

I started it up this afternoon and it got halfway through the start up chime and then the whole screen went black. I used it just this morning and it had a almost full battery. I put it on the charger anyways and there's still nothing. I've tried various button sequences and nothing works. Am I screwed? We have 40 windows laptops and everybody can use the Internet on VPN without using a remote desktop or any company intranet stuff. We have 4 MacBooks, (not BigSur) and they can use the internet on VPN. Our company bought a new MacBook air (M1), and It has BigSur. Only this machine can't use the internet with VPN only intranet (remote desktop, file server, compony stuff). What is the "special" settings we need to check for internet access during VPN? | Posted: 29 Aug 2021 03:23 AM PDT I just got a new SRS-XB22 sony speaker and I tried connecting it to my monitor via an aux cord and it couldn't play any sound, and then I tried the same with my M1 Macbook Air and it either didn't produce any sound or only produced a low quality sound. It seems to only work well when I play it via bluetooth, but even with that there are several issues with it like malfunctioning when it wakes up from sleep. I always have to turn off and turn on the bluetooth again to make it work. How can I make it less of a hassle? Any help would be appreciated! [link] [comments]  | ||

| M1 Air Netflix error S7361-1253 Posted: 29 Aug 2021 07:55 AM PDT Whenever i tried to watch some proper series on Safari netflix.com, the screen just loads for seconds, then freezes and gets the error code S7361-1253. For every time i watch that series. I searched on the internet and guessed that it has to get resetting the PRAM and i even almost did that until i found the article that M1 doesn't support that kind of reseting and i just fixes itself whenever it detects some errors in RAM as it said. So i even installed my Big Sur to the latest version, emptied the safari caches and thought it'd get fixed but after all done THAT one proper series is still getting the error code. I don't know how to do with it anymore. I still haven't tried on Chrome and Safari yet but even if i got it right, i'll still choose Safari for streaming so. Any tips, guys? [link] [comments]  |
