Dualbooting big sur and high sierra on 2017 macbook pro issues Posted: 25 Jul 2021 07:58 PM PDT So some apps that I have isn't working properly on big sur and I figured out making a dual boot using an external HDD running high sierra. Everything went well until the installation part of high sierra, the fan was kicking very loud even when I finished setting up high sierra and reached the desktop. So I though rebooting to big sur from the mac ssd would be fine, but it's not. Booting to big sur takes 3 minutes amd mid way on the booting progress bar the fans kick in again at high speed, once it boots everything runs very slow. Anyone know whats the problem? I managed to open activity monitor ans found out kernel_task using 200ish cpu usage and the system took 70% of cpu usage. I can't even do a time machine backup bcs big sur runs so slow it stuck on preparing backup [link] [comments]
Am I the only one who is having a bad experience with Safari? Posted: 25 Jul 2021 10:02 PM PDT I am a long time Mac user. I know chrome sucks, takes up too much memory, battery, etc. But in the past couple months, I've noticed Safari having major issues. 1. When opening new tabs (command t) there is like a 0.1~0.5 second delay. It is inconsistent. Sometimes its faster and sometimes it delays almost a full second. 2. When switching language in Safari (english>korean or korean>english) it lags, doesn't register and doesn't work sometimes! I thought this was an issue with my keyboard or computer but I tested switching languages in Chrome and its snappier and better than ever. I tried in youtube in safari and also on the safari top address bar. 3. Youtube, reddit and certain sites are just laggier on Safari compared to chrome. No other explanation. Believe me, I want to use safari. But am I the only experiencing this? Try spam opening (pressing Cmd T fast) tabs in safari and see if there is a delay. btw I use '19 MBP 13 inch base cpu 16gb ram [link] [comments]

What issues are you having with Big Sur? Posted: 26 Jul 2021 12:07 AM PDT I didn't install Big Sur on my old Mac because I didn't see the need for most new features. But I also saw some complaints about the system not working right and being really frustrating. Personally I am relatively new to the Mac (since Mavericks) and encountered the most problems after updating to Yosemite with programs crashing all the time and some other issues. Now having a Mac with Big Sur I don't really notice anything bad other than some problems with text to speech. Have all those issues been resolved? If so, what were they? What issues are still present? [link] [comments]
Are different users accounts "sandboxed" in macOS Big Sur? Posted: 25 Jul 2021 03:42 PM PDT If someone has one user account for personal use (personal email, files, etc.), and then another for work (with all of the work software, work email etc.) are those completely sandboxed and separate? I noticed that a piece of work software installed on the work account shows in the personal account. Is there any other cross over? Just want to be sure there would be no chance of an employees' personal files somehow being accessed by Mail app in the work account or vis a versa. Thanks! [link] [comments]

Posted: 25 Jul 2021 07:53 PM PDT I have a mid 2014 MacBook Pro (16GB) running El Capitan. I never bothered updating because it runs so well. Now I'm getting AirPods Pro. Should I update to Big Sur to get the features working? How would that affect the MacBook performance? El Capitan on this runs like a beast. I don't want to hinder my performance [link] [comments]
Hey, looking for some good file managers Posted: 25 Jul 2021 07:47 PM PDT Hey looking for a few file managers that has these:
Need like 3 file managers that can do this so can use them for different things. Or a file manager that can open up all the copies of itself from where you last left of, each opening up to where they last were. Pretty sure this feature doesn't exist. A lot of apps can't do this. A lot of apps can't even do the basic thing of opening up multiples copies of itself... If there isn't a few file managers that can do these, it's ok... [link] [comments]
Need help with changing the folder icon in big sur Posted: 25 Jul 2021 05:03 PM PDT Ive been using mac for quite some time and haven't been a huge fan of the stock icons. Luckily in the past there was this app called liteicon which basically made changing icons a walk in the freakin park. However now that I upgraded my mac to a new one with big sur, changing icons became something that was seemingly a lot harder to do now. Luckily however, it was still possible, and thanks to this guy https://www.reddit.com/r/MacOS/comments/kzzrub/tut_how_to_change_any_system_folder_finder_icon/ I was able to change my finder, launchpad, trash and several other system icons. However, my main goal was to change the folder icon because I reallly despise their look. Always hated it, and always changed it to something nicer. However when using the terminal thingy file sh thing, when selecting change folder icons, it says that I need to get this app called ThemeEngine which was procured right here: https://github.com/alexzielenski/ThemeEngine/releases/tag/1.0.0(111)) So i download the app, open it and all and when I open the .car file (file containing the system folder data), It instantly crashes and I couldn't get it to run So i did a little bit more digging and found another app called asset catalog tinkerer and although it does open the .car file, i can't seem to get it to replace any of the folder images. So I come here to ask the following A) How Do i get ThemeEngine to not Crash or B) How do I change the images in Asset catalog tinkerer or C) Any other methods to open and change .car files. Thank you for your time [link] [comments]

Posted: 25 Jul 2021 07:58 AM PDT Is changing drive icons to custom images no longer supported? Drives that I changed icons on years ago are all still working and show the icons, but now that I am replacing drives, every time I go to replace the icon it just shows up as if it can't show the image (like when viewing images in finder and the preview doesn't load but shows a preview logo with jpeg or png in it) Any one have any insight? Googling it just brings up old articles on how to change the icons, but nothing about it no longer working. [link] [comments]
Websites like Google maps can find exact location on macOS but not on Windows Posted: 25 Jul 2021 07:52 AM PDT I just realized this and wondered how it's possible since computer doesn't have gps module. And I guessed right, it can't find the location when I turn off WiFi on iPhone. Is this some feature included in handoff I'm not aware of? [link] [comments]
Unable to transfer music library from previous Mac to new Mac (M1 Air) Posted: 25 Jul 2021 09:46 AM PDT I copied my entire music folder to an external drive, plugged it into the new Mac, and copied it over to the music folder but none of the songs show up in the music app. The music files themselves work fine (when I double click on a song within finder, it actually plays, and all the songs play on other music players like VLC). Does anyone how to fix this? [link] [comments]

HP Easy Scan no longer works after Big Sur 11.5 update Posted: 25 Jul 2021 08:27 AM PDT I just updated to Big Sur 11.5 and now I get an error when trying to run HP Easy Scan for my multifunction printer. You do not have permission to open the application "HP Scanner 3". Does anyone know of a fix for this? Some googling hints at needed to run some terminal commands on each application this happens to. Not my preferred fix but will do it if necessary. As an aside, are there any alternative scan programs that will work with my HP m180w multifunction printer? [link] [comments]
Posted: 25 Jul 2021 12:03 PM PDT I recently switched from a Surface device to a new MacBook Pro running Big Sur. I own a copy of Adobe Creative Suite 5 and am wondering if there is any way to run it natively in Big Sur? For simplicity's sake, I'd like to avoid Bootcamp/ Parallels if possible. I've searched around online to no avail. CS5 does everything that I need it to do, so if I can find a way to run on Big Sur I have no reason to upgrade. Any input would be greatly appreciated!!
