I have an old iPad Pro (2018). I want a Smart Keyboard. Any reason to buy something newer (more expensive?) or is it all the same

Any app for sharing and storing paragraphs from the browser articles?

    Posted: 01 Jun 2021 02:27 PM PDT

I use my iPad almost daily to read a lot of study related articles and pages. Sometimes when I am reading an article, I would like to take note of an entire paragraph or a bunch of lines as it is. So currently I select the lines and copy and paste them in my application of choice(mostly notion) or share to notability notebook depending on the content. The problem with notability I am facing is, once I share those lines, the next bunch of lines is exactly appending to the previous lines(they are not going like another paragraph)

I want to know if there is any application where I can share the paragraphs or those bunch of lines and I can just make them into my notes as a summary of my reading.

I also use the pocket app, but I can only store the whole articles in there, not the snippets kind of paragraphs.

    Thanks for the help.

Tl;dr: Need a way or an app to share paragraphs from articles to collect.

    Thunderbolt Dock Audio Issues?

    Posted: 01 Jun 2021 01:32 PM PDT

This question is specific to the new M1 iPad Pros: anyone unable to get audio from any headphones connected to your Thunderbolt dock?

I'm using a Dell TB16. I have the following connected to it:

    • Two external monitors
    • Logitech USB receiver for my mouse and keyboard
    • Printer
    • Wired headphones via the headphone jack

I can select the dock audio driver in iPadOS control center, but there's no audio. The only way I can get any audio while connected to the dock is with Bluetooth. It's a minor annoyance, but still an annoyance considering Apple was excited about the new Pros having Thunderbolt.

Then again, maybe it's not a hardware/software issue with my iPad, it could be an issue with my dock not wanting to play nice with iPadOS. So, is anyone else running into a similar issue with other Thunderbolt docks?

    Thanks!

    Returning my 12.9" iPad Pro

    Posted: 01 Jun 2021 03:21 PM PDT

Figured I'd toss my two cents in here as primarily Windows/Android user.

I've been looking for a new lightweight machine to handle my workflow & school tasks. The tablet space is painfully lacking in the Windows/Android department, & so the 2021 iPad Pro looked like a promising option. I preordered it along with a Magic Keyboard & Apple Pencil as soon as I could & eagerly awaited the delivery. After setting it up, however, I quickly realized that it isn't the right machine for me.

The first issue I encountered was the plainly abhorrent multitasking. There is no smooth way to initiate multitasking with apps that aren't on the dock, & once you finagle your way to getting your chosen apps side-by-side, the experience doesn't get much better from there. There are few resizing options & there is no way to stack apps vertically, even in portrait mode, which makes notetaking in virtual classes unnecessarily cumbersome. I've even had trouble with simply copying & pasting text between Acrobat & Microsoft Word when side-by-side, though I'm aware this may be more of an app developer issue than anything.

My next issue is with the magic keyboard. To be fair, the build quality is incredible & far superior to any other tablet keyboard on the market. It holds the iPad in place rigidly & the keys are even better than those on a lot of laptops out there. My issue, rather, is again on the software side & is again partly the fault of app developers. Aside from my copy & paste issues, I've been incredibly frustrated by the general lack of keyboard shortcuts, which is almost certainly because developers failed to implement them, but even core functions like text selection is incommodious. For example, Apple allows for tap rather than a hard click operation of the touchpad in the settings, but I've found multiple places in the OS where taps don't register & a hard click is the only way to interact.

My last & final big gripe is with the screen. Abysmal. After Apple refused to put a 120Hz display on their iPhones because it failed their strict testing standards, I cannot believe they put a display with this level of blooming onto their flagship iPad Pro. I don't know how much of a difference this makes to an average user, particularly one coming from another LCD device, but a friend of mine with minimal knowledge of display technologies pointed it out unprompted under not-so-dim lighting. For me, coming from mainly OLED devices, I simply can't handle it.

At this point, I think my main objections to this year's iPad Pro have been echoed through this sub ad infinitum, but I want to add the chorus in hopes that the iPad is further improved to meet our needs. Personally, I've realized I'm with those who wish to see MacOS, or at least some sort of more capable operating system, be introduced to the iPad. For now, though, this was my first foray to the Apple ecosystem in a long time & while there are quite a few things that impress me, I'm going to need to see some major changes if I'm ever gonna dive in - a perhaps foreseeably cliche conclusion to hear from an Android user.

How long will iPad Air 4 (2020) get iPadOS updates?

    Posted: 01 Jun 2021 04:47 AM PDT

    Hello,

This might sound very childish. But I want to guess how long will I be able to keep my iPad Air 4 updated before it stops getting updates.

With the recent introduction of M1 iPads, will the A series iPads support be reduced?

    Thanks in advance!

Because it sure doesn't look like it.

I don't feel like I'm getting anything close to 1000nits of full screen brightness or 1600nits peak brightness.

Even though the titles I'm trying to view show the DolbyVison or HDR10 badges

    I returned my M1 12.9” iPad Pro

    Posted: 31 May 2021 12:25 PM PDT

I've been wanting an iPad for a couple of years and was so excited for the new M1 XDR display iPad that I decided to treat myself for my 31st birthday. I got up really early to pre-order a few weeks ago and it was delivered on release day without any delays. I was almost immediately disappointed with the device…. Don't get me wrong the screen is stunningly beautiful and watching HDR content in your hands is pretty great, but the blooming effect from the mini LED backlight is impossible to unsee, even though It's only in specific cases that it's really noticeable like in notes and messages, and kindle. My main use for an iPad is reading and marking up PDFs for work… trying to read on the kindle app is impossible unless it's in light mode. My eyes were almost immediately strained and felt like I was trying to read something after crying for 30 minutes. The display is good, but it's not for everyone.

Another thing no one is talking about is how HEAVY the new pro is.. like this thing is a beast, def not as portable. I found after a couple minutes I was putting down the iPad and using it from my lap like it was a MacBook or something haha. Seriously though, the new pro is really heavy and hurts like hell when it smacks you in the face whiletrying to read a blurry screen in bed.

I know the Pro is overkill for my needs, but I'm 6'7" and the 12.9" is the only iPad that doesn't look like a game boy in my hands. I'm strictly buying for screen size, so I decided to return the new iPad and ended up finding a new 2020 model on clearance at Staples for a couple hundred off the original price.

Anyone here prefer their old iPad over the new M1 iPad?

Predictions for iPad 9th gen (budget)

    Posted: 31 May 2021 09:02 PM PDT

    A13 Processor chip

    same 10.2 in display

larger battery : keep in mind that apple used the same 8827 mAh battery from the 5th gen (2017) all the way to the 8th gen (2020).

Except when Apple increased the screen size (also body), they didn't fit a larger battery despite the bigger body. I believe this is the opportunity where apple can fit in a approximately 9500 mAh battery. A 9.7" body to a 10.2" body is pretty significant, so a battery upgrade is a MUST!

Slightly improved 5mp selfie camera. Seriously... this is the least they can do. Like the selfie cam on iPhone 6S

    Keep 8mp back camera.

Touch iD 2nd gen. The hardware for Touch id 2nd gen is approximately 6 years old now!! First introduced in 2015. They can and should use it by now and the components should be significantly cheap knowing that the last phone/ipad with touch id 2nd gen was back in 2017-19 (iphone 8/SE. ipad air 3. pro 10.5/12.9 2nd gen).

    Non-laminated display

4gb Ram (+1 gb from last year)

Bump up the base storage from 32 gb to 64. But keep 128 gb option.

Price very likely increase from $329 to $379 or above. 128gb might be 479
