| hello everyone in this subreddit Posted: 08 May 2021 02:08 AM PDT hello, I have a MID-2010 Mac mini with a core 2 duo and a 5400rpm hard drive and 2 Gb gam (the base spec) and I had first installed high sierra on but it ran very slow even though the minimum requirement was 2gigs of ram so I switched back to osx lion but I did not like the old retro look so I wanted something modern so I ended up opting for osx Yosemite as that is the oldest modern-looking macOS and I wanted to know if it would run well for watching youtube and googling stuff. if not can you please suggest a modern-looking mac os [link] [comments]  | ||
| Posted: 08 May 2021 12:10 AM PDT This is driving me insane so I thought I'd ask and hopefully, somebody who's looked at this already, will know the answer. I'm expecting tail -F to follow files that haven't been created yet, something like this:
tail leaves the file open though and later reads whatever is written into it:
On the Mac (Big Sur 11.3) it actually does though is nothing, it just closes the file and makes no effort to follow it:

Not sure exactly when, perhaps the last OS update, but in both safari and chrome on any website with video, you know, netflix, youtube, por... uhem. The usual. When a video begins autoplaying, the focus is stolen. As in, normally I'd be able to press "f" to fullscreen, but I can't anymore. The browser is still selected as the focus app, but keyboard shortcuts seem to have stopped working until I click something on the video, usually twice, which stops the video from playing. Ideas? Is it punishment for my questionable taste in frequented websites? [link] [comments]  | ||

Posted: 07 May 2021 09:47 AM PDT I've never used Universal Clipboard successfully for copy/paste between devices, my Safari history syncs across iPad and iPhone but never my Macs. AirPods device switching worked well at first (besides to/from Mac), but has been awful lately :/ I upgraded to an M1 Mac from a 2013 MBP recently and I thought these features would become available to me with newer hardware, but I'm still seeing the same lack of synchronicity. "Allow Handoff" is toggled to "on" on all of my devices, and my devices are usually on the same network with bluetooth enabled on all of them. Is there something I'm doing wrong or need to enable? I know it is possible to run iTunes or iPhoto on Catalina and Big Sur using Retroactive. I am stuck in Mojave 10.14.6 mainly due to the Photos app. Since Catalina the Photos app changes the names of the original media files (that I have curated for years) to random strings. These files are located inside the Photos library file. I have refrained from upgrading to Catalina or Big Sur. So I would like to know if it is possible at all to run a previous version of the Photos app—in this case, version 4, from Mojave—on Big Sur. If not, do you have any suggestions on what to do? For some reason the monitor keeps saying out of range when i try to use it with the laptop cover closed, does anyone know how to fix this? At the moment I have to connect to the speakers manually by clicking them in control centre. They are a pair of Logitech Z207s if that helps. [link] [comments]  | ||

| 1TB SSD APFS with 3 OSs and Time Machine Posted: 07 May 2021 11:14 AM PDT I've got High Sierra, Mojave, and Catalina in three partitions on my hard drive. 85% of my apps are in the High Sierra app folder and the rest are in the Mojave folder. I use Mojave as my primary OS for performance and dark-mode feature and access many of the apps from the High Sierra app folder. Overall, it works pretty well with just a few apps requiring the current OS's app folder to work properly. I had to keep upgrading due to a single app that requires it each year (Turbo Tax). Question: can I back them all up to one Time Machine hard drive, or do I need each in it's separate Time Machine drive? [link] [comments]  | ||

| Function key shortcuts aren't working for Minecraft? Posted: 07 May 2021 10:30 AM PDT I'm bad at explaining in-depth problems like this. In my MBP touch bar, I would like the function keys to show by default only when using Minecraft. I'm following the steps listed under You can also make the function keys appear automatically when you use specific apps:. I picked Minecraft and added it to the shortcut list, but the function keys aren't showing. I think it's because the game runs inside Java, but Java is not listed in my applications. | Weird Big Sur bug - dock apps not coming to foreground when notifications open Posted: 07 May 2021 10:21 AM PDT Experiencing a weird bug that started recently, but I can't pinpoint exactly when or why. The issue is that if there is a notification open in the upper right, I cannot click on the top icons in the dock to bring the application to the foreground. If I close the notification, clicking on the app in the dock works as normal. This is definitely repeatable and definitely irritating. I have not submitted feedback to Apple yet, but am planning to. Does this happen to anyone else and any idea what's going on? Why are notifications blocking apps from coming to the foreground when clicking on them in the dock? | Posted: 07 May 2021 10:18 AM PDT Just noticed that my macbook pro from 2018 is getting black screen and im not able to see anything on the screen except for a light back light (when checking from the side). I think the computer is ok and im able to turn it on (due to the back light on the screen and the caps key light turning on when pressing it). I have tried the following stuff but nothing seems to turning on the screen. * 10 second power button * Option+command+shift and power button Connecting the monitor to external display seems to be working fine.
