Is the HBOMax app just a damn hot mess for anyone else?

    Posted: 13 May 2021 11:03 AM PDT

Lately it's taken to basically resetting my whole Apple TV every so often where the screen will go white and I'll bounce back to the home screen with all apps closed and the remote disconnected (it quickly reconnects).

And I cannot pause it at all, "HBOMax encountered a problem and needs to restart" (an app - not system - error message with a purple OK button that restarts the app) happens every time even if I pause it to pee or answer the door.

Other apps seem OK, but HBOMax is seriously seriously sucking. I don't see any other posts on it (I searched) so I'm worried it's just me.

    Color calibration doesn’t work

    Posted: 14 May 2021 05:18 AM PDT

I'm trying to get the color calibration feature to work on my parents TV (their TV has a horrible blue tint, so they're really excited to try this out).

We've tried three different iPhones so far. Each time the prompt comes up on the phone, then when the phone is placed in the rectangle on the TV… nothing happens. It worked fine on my TV at home, so I'm kinda stumped.

Their TV is curved, does that have anything to do with it?

Is it possible to access the control center on Apple TV without using the button on the remote?

    Posted: 14 May 2021 04:04 AM PDT

As the title says, I'm trying to find a way to access the control center (particularly the homekit cameras etc) without using the ATV remote, I don't use the remote at all (it's hot garbage but even if it wasn't it's more convenient to just use one remote). I use my LG remote via CEC to control everything but I can't figure out a way to get to the control center.

Side note: anyone found that the can no longer turn on the apple tv with their normal TV remote? This used to work perfectly but it stopped working after iOS 14.

Horrible user experience with YouTube, ABC News and some other Apps

    Posted: 14 May 2021 01:12 AM PDT

I used to really enjoy the YT app on Apple TV. But some time ago they just copied the normal smart TV version to the Apple TV. Thats not really a good thing since swipe gesture of the Siri remote don't work in the App for the most part, so you have to tap the corners just like with a remote with physical keys. But for me the player is the worst thing. It used to have the standard Apple player UI which allowed you to scroll very nicely or tap the corner of the touchpad to skip 10 second. Now you swipe 1mm and the app skips about 1/2 of the video. Same thing with the ABC news app.

Am I the only one how is annoyed by that? I would appreciate if these apps would return to the old apple video player, since I don't really care about video suggestions while the video is playing. You can still show them at the end.

    Issues with the CBS app

    Posted: 13 May 2021 07:23 PM PDT

This is the CBS app, not the CBS All Access or Paramount+ app.

In the previous version of the app, I would launch it and try to login. The Apple TV would ask me if I wanted to allow CBS to use my Verizon FIOS credentials. I told it yes, and it would just spin and never connect.

Fast forward to last week. I update the CBS app, and now it logs into CBS and pops up a screen that says I should go to cbs.com/appletv and enter the code displayed below. Except there is no code displayed below. Just one small white rectangular box.

Anyone else using the CBS app on their Apple TV and seeing this?

    Apple TV 4K last generation

    Posted: 13 May 2021 04:53 PM PDT

So purchased a new Apple TV 4K last generation and I only have a regular HDMI cable, using it with a new Samsung smart TV, will I be able to stream in 4K or do I need a 2.1 HDMI cable to do so? I am aware Samsung doesn't support DV. Also any other advice or tips will be helpful. First time smart TVs and Apple TV user. Thank you in advance.

Airplay pause and progress bar from lock screen

    Posted: 13 May 2021 04:49 PM PDT

Anyone have issues using airplay from the iOS Lock Screen and trying to pause / play the video? Each time I pause (from Lock Screen) and then hit play, the video either restarts completely or seems to resume from when the Lock Screen turned on.

Note this is specifically for videos from iOS safari, not an app (ex youtube.com, not the youtube app). Also pause / play works fine from the full screen video before the Lock Screen takes over.

I only noticed this after ios14 upgrade :(

    When do episodes come out?

    Posted: 13 May 2021 05:49 PM PDT

Looking forward to the new episode of Mythic Quest. I know technically it should come out at midnight tonight, but I also know a lot of shows show up earlier in the evening for me on other streaming services.

Is 4K roku tv and Apple TV 4K redundant?>

    Posted: 13 May 2021 06:30 AM PDT

So i have a 4K Roku smart tv but I'm intrigued by the 4K Apple TV since I'm in the ecosystem. Would I get any value out of having both or would it be redundant? Thanks in advance

Does anybody has this new shuffle play feature that Netflix has started to roll out last month?

    Posted: 13 May 2021 02:51 PM PDT

Is this HDMI cable sufficient to take advantage of HDMI 2.1 on the new Apple TV?

    Posted: 13 May 2021 08:19 AM PDT

I'm looking at this cable: https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-High-Speed-HDMI-Cable-Black/dp/B08BS29VG4/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=amazon+basics+8k&qid=1620918792&sr=8-1

It doesn't specifically say "HDMI 2.1", but it appears to meet the HDMI 2.1 standard - capable of 8K at 48gbps. Would this work for the new Apple TV 4K and function as an HDMI 2.1 cable? I don't really *need* HDMI 2.1, just future proofing because I need a new HDMI cable.

    Thanks!

Has anyone bought the new Apple TV remote?

    Posted: 13 May 2021 06:53 AM PDT

My wife utterly despises the Apple TV remote. I can use it, but I'm not thrilled with it.

So, I'm thinking about buying the new Apple TV remote, which got my wife a little excited.

Has anyone used the new remote? Opinions?
