    I removed all my widgets and now when I click "edit widgets" it's just a blank screen. The search bar doesn't bring up anything. I've tried rebooting, SMC, PRAM, reinstalling the OS, running this in terminal:

    defaults delete com.apple.notificationcenterui; killall NotificationCenter

    Nothing works. I even created a new user to no avail. Anyone have a fix?

    No USB Wifi in Big Sur??

    Here is the process I used to add USB wifi to my (pre 802.11AC) mac mini. I'm using a late 2012 Mac Mini with a 2.6GHz quad-core i7; 16Gb of Ram; and a Samsung 1Tb SSD running Big Sur 10.15.7.

    I had been having issues with the wifi connectivity, dropping out randomly through the day. I had tried moving my access point closer etc..nothing worked. So I decided to pick up a USB3 Wifi adapter. I picked up the Nighthawk AC1900 A700 to test.

    Upon purchasing, I found out that currently there is no USB wifi adapter that works with Mac OS Big Sur. I found a link to this GitHub page that creates a workaround with software that you have to download from the page and follow very specific instructions to get it to work.

    Well, one of the first parts of the instructions is to disable the "Gatekeeper" in Big Sur. So after I did this, I downloaded the A7000_macOS_v1.0.0.13.zip )and attempted to install it. It failed originally but after I closed terminal and system preferences, I tried again and the software installed. After installation, I restarted the computer and followed the instructions to connect to my desired wifi network and it worked!!

    So if you are having trouble with installing a USB wifi adapter on a Mac running OS Big Sur, give this a try, it just may work for you!

    Big Sur animation on intel igpu (UHD630) is so laggy

    has anyone experienced animation lag on intel igpu machine after upgraded to macos big sur. Things like minimize a window, go fullscreen, scrolling etc. They are mostly gone if i switch to AMD gpu.

    Why is Chrome starting after every restart?

    Hello community.

    Is there a way (command line, utility, whatever) to understand why Chrome is started after every restart on my MacBook Pro?

    I suspect there is an utility that is doing that, but I do not know who is the culprit :) This is a work laptop, I haven't installed anything special: Docker, the office VPN software, Visual Studio Code, etc.

    Any help is appreciated!

    How to tile windows vertically on Mac, for ex-Windows user.

    I have switched from Windows to Mac on macbook pro 16", version 10.15.7, work provided. Long term Microsoft Windows user and Mac window management is killing me.

    I have one external monitor in portrait orientation and another in landscape orientation. Questions 1. Is there a way to tile windows to top and bottom of screen on the portrait mode monitor ? Just like there is for landscape mode if I hover over the green button. 2. Are they shortcut keys for tiling windows. I am looking for Mac equivalent of Windows key + lt/rt/up/dn arrow key combination. 3. Is there a shortcut to minimise all windows. Equivalent to Windows key + m key combo.

    Is there a MacOS application thats like Workona but for your desktop? Like a window manager where you can save certain applications as macros and click on them to open up all the saved apps.

    Used MacBook bought a year ago rebooted and remote device management comes up

    Hi everyone,

    Long time listener and but have never posted on Reddit. I bought a MacBook from a guy and it was relatively new, he said he got it a week before I purchased it and it was an Apple replacement from his last one.

    He seemed like a genuine guy, and it macbook was still so new that I went and purchased AppleCare+ for it.

    Fast forward to now, I was getting ready for a complete wipe and a reinstall, and when I did a remote device management screen popped up that is forcing me to enter Amazon credentials to get into the MacBook.

    I called up Apple, and they said Amazon needed to remove the device on their end.

    I called up Amazon right after and they said they have no record of the device being in their system in accordance to the serial number. I then asked if it was stolen and he said he had no idea.

    The IT guy from just said he has no idea what I can do or he can do or what anyone can do to remove the device from remote management.

    I then contacted Venmo, because I found the transaction and the user associated with it and asked customer support for their phone number/email address but they said they couldn't do give me any of that info.

    I am relatively tech savvy as I am a software engineer, but this is relatively new for me, so if anyone has any idea on how to bypass the remote management that would be great.

    Because I purchased AppleCare+ for the product, would there be any chance of replacing it with another or am I stuck with a brick

    Boot-Args not working with SIP enabled

    Hey guys, I'm trying to set the „vm.compressor_mode" from 4 to 2.

    I am currently on MacOS Big Sur 11.3 on the MacBook Air M1.

    I disabled SIP first with „csrutil disable" and then used „sudo nvram boot-args=„vm_compressor=2"" to set the boot-arg. With SIP disabled i could see with „sysctl -a vm.compressor_node" that it worked and the mode is now 2. But when i turn on SIP again with „csrutil enable" the same command shows now 4.

    Is SIP blocking the argument? I can see with „nvram -p" that the value is set correctly. In older versions of MacOS you could set the value and it worked, even with SIP on.

    I just ordered M1 Mac Mini with 10Gbps Ethernet. My goal is to setup a test bench for debugging a network performance estimation tool. I like to know the network performance of M1 Mac Mini 10Gbps Ethernet variant. If somebody got it already please share your experiences. iPerf client and Server performance etc.

    I ordered the base variant with 8Gb ram and 256Gb SSD. It will be capable for my use case?

    Any way to change brightness on external display through macOS?

    I want to hook up my m1 MacBook Air to an external display, specifically the sceptre E246BV-F, I noticed that the colors are way off compared to my MacBook's display. I went to the display calibrater tool and it said to max out the contrast and lower the brightness so the gray oval is barely visible and so the right half doesn't look brighter than the left. But even when my monitor is at 0% brightness, it still is WAY too bright. Is there any way to bypass my monitors osd and directly lower brightness through macOS?

    MacOS Big Sur 11.3 issue with bluetooth

    After updating my computer last night (I checked it this morning) I noticed that the Bluetooth section of System Preferences is having problems-clicking on "Turn Bluetooth Off" stopped working, and all device options for pairing disappeared (and haven't come back). I've tried the obvious turning it off and back on again. Any suggestions for what I should do, and has anyone else experienced this?

    Is it safe to delete Relocated Items.nosync?

    After update my MacBook this week, a new folder called Relocated Items.nosync appeared in my iCloud's Desktop folder containing a note from Apple and a Configuration/private/etc/group.system_default file.

    Is it normal after a system update? Can I delete?

    2016 macbook pro won't detect external display

    My MBP cannot detect the display. Force-detecting it does not work either. Arrangement tab does not appear in Display menu.

    Hi guys! I've recently begun using Adobe Cloud programs at work and very quickly realized my 8gb early 2015 mac book air is not suitable for such RAM intensive applications.

    I'm looking to upgrade to one of the new iMacs specifically the middle option. Is there any reason the 8Gb unified memory would still cause issues or would an upgrade to RAM be worth it? I'm still a beginner in these programs but want to have a fairly efficient workflow even as I progress.

    I'm not very well versed in computer specs either so any information and tips are much appreciated!
