    Mac software update process: check for updates download updates install updates reboot if necessary

    Windows software update process: check for updates wait a long time for it to start checking wait while it checks wait while it says downloading 0% download updates wait while it says installing 0% begin installing updates wait while it says installing 100% wait while it says installing 0% wait while it installs all over again wait while it says installing 100% reboot if necessary check for updates and sometimes find that what you just did didn't actually do anything and start the whole process all over again...

    There is a microscopic Microsoft Edge logo in my Dock (and some other logo I don't recognise at this size). Dock scaled to max on a 5K iMac. macOS 11.2.3 (20D91). Not clickable or right-clickable. Why?

    Hi, I have created a free Mac plugin for noise suppression in online meetings (works in Zoom, Discord, Google Meet, Teams): https://utterly.app.

    Please, check it out and give me some feedback. I use it a lot myself and find it pretty helpful in cutting all noises that I have in my apartment when I have Zoom calls.

    The coolest thing is that it uses AI that does inference locally on your device, so you don't have to worry about privacy (your data never gets uploaded anywhere and always stays on your device).

    Keynote, You Beautiful Piece Of Software.

    (I don't know which flair to put it in, I'm sorry if this is the wrong one)

    I just can't thank Keynote enough for getting me a 100% in all of my presentations for college. The seamless transitions, animations, colour grading and the stock templates are amazing! And the file size of the final presentation, too, is just too good.

    It just sucks that Powerpoint and Keynote don't share the same transitions cause I have to export whenever I need to submit it. All the gradients and transitions get messed up.

    Edit: I should mention that the reason I get good feedback for the presentation is cause: Since the pandemic we have to stay at home and share our screens and that's how the professors judge the presentation. They just require a copy of it future reference. My university is mostly Windows dominated.

    Mac email app with contact search

    Hello,

    I am looking to get a good replacement for Microsoft Outlook. I am using it with an Exchange account.

    Unfortunately all email apps I tried don't have a contacts suggestions or search in the company directory. And this is annoying because in big companies, when you don't have the exact email address of a contact it is super useful.

    I tried Spark, Canary etc.

    Any suggestion ?

    MACOS DNS ISSUE

    Hi guys, I have to ask you something. First of all, I really appreciate what you do for the community discovering all the bugs and helping the community solve them. Anyways, in this past year I have had 2 MacBooks, a 2019 MacBook Air, and now I have an M1 MacBook Pro. Since I have got the first Macbook, every now and then the wifi drops, the Mac says it's connected but it can't load anything and If I try a network monitor it is locked between 512b/s and 1 kb/s. The other devices in my home, work perfectly fine, so I don't know what to do anymore. Trying wireless diagnostics it says that it can't resolve the dns, but I tried with many of them(openDns, Google,cloudflare) and I accomplished nothing. The only way I was able to solve it for some time, was with a software reset I did with Catalina. However I resetted my MacBooks many times from that point, and I am still having this issue. I manage to reproduce the issue while i was updating to big sur 11.2.3, in fact I couldn't keep the connection for more than 30 seconds. I hope you can look into it to see maybe if it's a software bug or something like this Ps:the only way to momentarily solve it, is to turn off the wifi and turn it on again. I have wifi 6

    Tip: if you lose your files on a microSD card, you might get them back on an Android phone.

    This is the 2nd time that a microSD card was wiped out. It reports in macOS that the space is used (not free) but it doesn't show the files and won't do a first aid. I tried months ago, everything I could on the Mac, but nothing worked.

    So it just happened again, this time I popped the microSD into an Android phone and 100% of my files were there.

    One of the keys is that I'm using ExtDOS file type.

    Now I just have to get it from the Android phone, onto another device.

    Two-monitor setup. HDMI monitor only one awakening after prolonged sleep

    Anyone else running into a situation that after the Mac (2020 M1 mini, btw) awakens after a prolonged sleep (overnight or after work), the HDMI monitor comes up right away, but the one attached to the USB-C port (thru an Apple adapter) doesn't come up?

    Unplugging and replugging the adapter works every time.

    USB devices don't work on Parallels Insider Preview

    So I have this problem with my new M1 mac where the insider preview of Parallels doesn't show any usb driver as connected, like an extrrnal ssd, that asks me if I want to connect it to Parallels or MacOS and after selecting Parallels doesn't show up in file explorer. The same ssd works on MacOS on the same Macbook and in Parallels on my old intel Mac. Is there any way to fix it because I need to connenct a specific usb device to my Windows installation for a program to work.

    iCloud Photos and Drive won’t sync on home Wi-Fi, but work fine on mobile hotspot

    From the past few days iCloud photos and drive won't sync/upload/download on my home wifi. but they work just fine when I connect my Mac to my mobile's wifi hotspot. What is the issue? Wifi? iCloud?

    iStat Menu Still Showing in Activity Monitor After Uninstalling

    I installed iStat Menus on my MacBook a few weeks ago just to check out the app since I had heard a lot about it. I tried it for a few days but I felt like it was bit of an overkill so I decided to delete the app. Now today I opened my Activity Monitor and saw iStat Menus still 'running'. Although it doesn't use any energy, memory or CPU, it is still present and is bothering me. Can anyone help me in getting rid of this process?

    (I have tried stopping the process from within Activity Monitor but it doesn't go away.)

    volume keys minimize my tabs instead of adjusting volume?

    I dont know what happened but I cant use my volume keys? I tried to take a screen recording but those commands also arent working. Does anyone know how to fix this :(

    Sleep and kernel panic issues

    Anyone else having issues in conjunction with an attached thunderbolt HDD or RAID. In addition, I get random disconnects and the 'please eject' message. It seems like every new OS, this happens, then takes several point releases to resolve (never a peep from Apple).

    2020 iMac 27 inch, 10 core, 64GB Promise Pegasus2 R6

    This has happened across 2 prior machines with the same RAID box as well.
