MacOS needs better and easier sound control IMO Posted: 23 Mar 2021 07:00 AM PDT I think we should be able to change sound of every open app from menu bar like we can do on Windows. Also, it would be easier if could change input device from menubar or just somewhere easier than 2 submenus deep in System Settings. [link] [comments]
Apple Says I Have An Unfixable Problem Posted: 23 Mar 2021 07:19 PM PDT ...so I'm turning to you, macOS community. Recently my Apple Pay stopped working, with the message, "Apple Pay has been disabled because the security settings of this Mac were modified." I tried everything support recommended, including toggling the automatic updates option on and off with no luck. When I started digging further, I found that System Integrity Protection had become disabled somehow. Now, here's the kicker: when I try to re-enable it from the recovery terminal, it says that it enabled successfully, but when I reboot the Mac it's disabled again. For some reason, not every module of SIP is having a problem, it is only specifically the Apple Internal module. I've been through 4 levels of Apple support, and the most recent message I got from their senior Apple Pay engineer is that there are "no troubleshooting steps left to try." Am I going to have to nuke and pave? Did I lose the support roulette and get a bad engineer? Has anyone encountered anything like this before? [link] [comments]

Browser battle: Brave v Safari Posted: 23 Mar 2021 11:21 PM PDT I own an intel based MacBook pro 15 inches 2019, been using Safari for quite some time, especially more since they had announced last year about blocking trackers, etc. I was a student, now working. I use my browser for a lot of things but not to operate any business heavily. I already have Chrome downloaded for backup since I enjoy VidIQ and Tubebuddy extension while using youtube occasionally. Most of my 4K content viewing (YouTube, Netflix, etc) happens through Safari. I have passwords saved in Safari, which helps jumping between my iPhone and mac smoothly. Even though I use Safari for surfing and watching videos, I prefer to not have trackers just follow me. This is why I kept using Safari more, now people say that Brave is pretty good. I have also heard Brave uses some shady methods to block ads, or maybe also lets them through, or is in talks with Facebook and Twitter to let them whitelist their ads, etc. But I've also heard that it's supposed to be great with blocking trackers and ads. Could you kindly guide me on why Brave is the better choice? And is it actually blocking ads or actually in hands with other companies to sell my data secretly. Since I have passwords saved in Safari. It makes it convenient to shift between my iPhone and mac. I don't mind trying a new browser but I want to be sure. [link] [comments]

Update removed an app and I need it restored/reinstalled Posted: 24 Mar 2021 02:23 AM PDT Yesterday I installed an update to the OS, but my note-app is now gone. I can't remember its name and I don't know how to restore it. Only thing I know is that it had the option to add an icon to the procesbar in the top right of the screen, where a click would show all my added points (in my case, my whole to-do-list). So, I'm asking for a solution to restore it, or another note-app with the same function with the to-do-list in the procesbar (although, this will mean I will have to figure out my to-do-list again). How do I prevent my child from being able to change system preferences? Posted: 23 Mar 2021 08:13 PM PDT Is there anyway you can prevent a kid from changing the time or any other setting on a mac? [link] [comments]
The keyboard keys no longer light up. (MacBook pro, 2019) Posted: 24 Mar 2021 02:04 AM PDT Hello, Since some versions of BigSur my keyboard light are off, no matter if I modify from the touchbar or the control center it remains off. The only time they are lit for a few seconds is at startup. I am in 11.2.3 but this problem occurs for some versions .If someone has already had this problem and can help me thank you [link] [comments]
How are you taking advantage of Spaces/Desktops? Any tips? Posted: 23 Mar 2021 07:28 PM PDT I run a MacBook with an external monitor. While I feel like this allows me ok control of juggling two windows, I can't help but think that also leveraging Spaces/Desktops is something I am not taking enough advantage of. For those out there that use Spaces/Desktops all the time, what are you using it for? How do you organize them with what-goes-where personally? Thanks! [link] [comments]

I've tried installing different versions of Ps 2020 -Ps 2021 but all of them keep crashing. Any leads will do. Pretty pls. Thanks! [link] [comments]

Can’t kill dock because process doesn’t exist Posted: 24 Mar 2021 12:09 AM PDT I tried to run pywal on macOS 11.1 and now my wall paper is black, there is no dock and I can't switch between my windows. I tried to run 'killall Dock' but it said "No matching process were found" any idea what I do now? I have done the obvious restart my computer etc. [link] [comments]
Is the best macos version for your mac the one it came with? Posted: 23 Mar 2021 10:27 PM PDT I've just noticed something warm and fuzzy.. for at least 2 of my macs, the best os is by far the one it came with.
Is there something going on where the glove it comes with fits best... or wait is it just general worsening trend in macos.. I also am dual booting catalina on both those machines, been running it for a while, but today decided to hop back as i wasn't coding. Perked up at how fast the machines were, it was like i went to the store and bought a new one. [link] [comments]

Outlook on Macpro doesn't relaunch at the old position/size when it is closed and relaunched Posted: 23 Mar 2021 08:36 PM PDT When I close the Outlook by clicking the small red button at top left corner, it closes the Outlook window. Then I relaunch it again by clicking Outlook icon on the Dock. Most of time Outlook launches its window at the same position and size before I closed it, this is great and what I wanted. However, from time to time, the Outlook launches at a different position and smaller window size, this is annoying since I have to move and drag it to the desired position and size. Not sure what causes this weird behavior on Outlook. It didn't happen consistently though. All other apps I use work fine, vs code, safari, telegram, slack etc, they always relaunch at the position/size before close. Any idea how can I fix this? Thank you! [link] [comments]
Posted: 23 Mar 2021 07:07 PM PDT I am trying to install Windows 10 via Boot camp on my MacBook Pro 10.13.6 for about 8 hours. I have tried all of the quick fixes I've found online that I'm capable of like Time Machine and clearing storage but nothing has worked. I am not very well versed in this world and literally all I want to do is download Age of Empires lol. I am also not sure why it won't work as its a brand new Mac :( I am in 14 day hotel quarantine in Sydney Australia and I'm just looking for a way to kill time by gaming. If anyone could help me that would be amazing. Would anyone be willing to FT or Zoom me... I'm desperate lol [link] [comments]

Best way to “transfer” Mac OS files Posted: 23 Mar 2021 06:33 PM PDT Hello! Just got today my new MacBook Pro M1, I am loving it :) it's super cool My latest Mac was a 2015 MacBook Air. I have there all my files. When doing the initial setup, I logged in with my iCloud Drive on the new MacBook and now all my files ares synced between both Macs. The old Mac will be for my sister, so I want to do a factory reset so she can have it as a new. If I factory reset the old mac, I am losing the files on my new Mac (I got them via iCloud Drive). What would be the best way to have all my files in the new mac and erase rhe old one? Hope some one could help me! Really appreciate it!! Thanks! [link] [comments]
Can I factory reset macbook pro while retaining current OS? Posted: 23 Mar 2021 06:16 PM PDT I got a 2018 15 inch macbook pro I'm trying to sell. I want to clear the hard drive, but is there a way to do that and still retain OS Big Sur? [link] [comments]
Confused with Time Machine - Am I doing this right? Posted: 23 Mar 2021 05:51 PM PDT I was looking for one manual backup, so I took a 512gb drive and formatted it to AFTS splitting it to two separate volumes. One volume for extra files, the other for time machine. I used time machine to select the "time machine" volume and it encrypted and created the backup. Now I understand that whenever something gets broken I can restore using that backup through the migration agent. HOWEVER (This is what I'm not getting), when I press time machine, I'm able to restore files from when the backup was done, however the drive is not connected. How is that possible? what am I not getting here? [link] [comments]

Posted: 23 Mar 2021 05:47 PM PDT I' m doing a research project on macOS for uni and I am having trouble finding reliable sources for information on the technical aspects of the OS. I' m looking for info on how macOS schedules processes, manages memory, what architecture it uses, etc. The project is for an OS principles course. Any relevant resources would be greatly appreciated. If this type of post is not aloud, my apologies, I am new to this subreddit! [link] [comments]
Posted: 23 Mar 2021 09:48 AM PDT For a number of reasons, I have decided to stop using the default "Mail" application that ships with MacOS. Can anyone recommend an email client to use instead? My only criteria are that I need to be able to integrate multiple mail accounts, and it has to be able to use Exchange protocol. I am fine paying but I would strongly prefer a one-time payment rather than a subscription. I am running MacOS Mojave 10.14.6, can anyone recommend a good email client within these parameters? I know there are a lot so I appreciate any recommendations. [link] [comments] |
