[Big Sur 11.2.3] Why is kernel_task constantly eating bandwidth? Posted: 24 Mar 2021 11:17 PM PDT For some reason, the kernel_task almost constantly eating 1-3 MB/s, is there any specific reason or app that does that? I have Time Machine on but it's controlled by Time Machine Editor and it usually runs late at night / early morning when the mac is not used, so I don't think it's coming from there... Is there a way to know which of the sub-processes uses that much bandwidth and moderate it? [link] [comments]

Using VM software to run a newer version of MacOS on older software? Posted: 24 Mar 2021 11:50 PM PDT My Mac is too old to run XCode (it's currently running MacOS Sierra), and I don't want to use a Hackintosh. Would it be possible to run Big Sur within a virtual machine on that Mac, and if that's possible, would it also be possible to run XCode on that VM? Edit: I messed up the title lol, the last word should be "hardware" [link] [comments]

Posted: 24 Mar 2021 08:23 PM PDT Open two or more documents in tabs. Set one to show thumbnails. Now all the tabs have the left bar, not a big deal. Set the second to...oh weird it already says "Hide sidebar" but clicking it doesn't do anything. So now you have to a different option and then back to hide side bar. Next issue(s): Open Preview in split screen with Pages. Just what. It's like Apple straight up didn't test this feature. Why is there a media type bar on the bottom of the screen spanning left and right? Why is there there a read out of pages over lapping the UI at the top? Why is it in dark mode when everything else is in light mode? Why does it go from Continuous scroll to page scroll? Navigating between tabs.....why do the pages jump around? Why does Preview flash back and forth between my tabs when I go back to Pages? Not even going to mention the search popup behaviour and the UI bar. Just why Apple? Preview was so good before. Sincerely, Someone that just wants to read and take notes. [link] [comments]

Reinstalled MacOS Big Sur using Internet Recovery method Posted: 24 Mar 2021 06:22 PM PDT I reached out to Apple Support technical team to help me with reinstalling the OS without compromising on data since I did not maintain a time machine backup neither did I have an external USB drive then to create a bootloader of the OS image installer file. So the only option that they recommended was to erase the drive "Macintosh HD" — as that is where the OS is installed and not to do anything that said "Macintosh HD - Data" as that is where all my User files and apps data reside. I proceeded with the erasing of the "Macintosh HD" Drive using startup disk utility (cmd+opt+R) method and then exited out from disk utility and clicked on Reinstall Big Sur OS as that is where the latest OS version will be downloaded and reinstallation happens. The reinstall completed successfully but after completing the initial setup I noticed all my desktop icons that i had previously were missing locally on the desktop (safe to say I already maintained a backup on iCloud Drive, so its still there on iCloud) but I also noticed there are 2 HD drives visible in my finder the "Macintosh HD" & "Macintosh HD - Data" and all my data from previous OS are there. My question is how do I get to merge both the drives into a single Macintosh HD drive like its supposed to be. The surprising thing is when I try to open my previously installed application from application folder in "Macintosh HD - Data" drive like say, Android Studio it completed the installation first and then opened. Does that mean I'll have to proceed with installing all third party apps? And all my previously saved settings are gone? Please guide me. Appreciate your help. [link] [comments]

Verification/Activity Monitor Issues on Big Sur Posted: 24 Mar 2021 05:25 PM PDT I was wondering recently if anyone else has been having issues related to verification or Activity Monitor after updating to Big Sur like I have. Before Big Sur, I had refused to upgrade to Catalina for some time due to the loss of 32bit support and was still running Mojave. After updating to Big Sur (because some of my games on Steam required a newer OS) I found that any time my mac tried to verify anything from Steam or some other third party stuff the progress bar would freeze about 3/4 of the way there and then it would just be stuck forever, unable to open the app. If I cancel the verification, my computer slows down immensely and threatens to crash itself (which it apparently actually did a few times while I was asleep, given the 'computer restarted due to a problem' message when I woke up). I tried to see if I could tell why it was slowing down with activity monitor, maybe an issue of things not actually shutting down, to find Big Sur had also totally wiped my Activity Monitor blank making it so I couldn't see anything happening on my computer. I've tried contacting apple support, but they seemed to have no idea what I was talking about and basically just sent me instructions to turn my computer off and back on again with an SMC reset (Which unless I'm wrong fixes hardware issues, while my problem is most likely software). Could this be caused by a faulty install of the OS? Is my computer just suddenly showing its age 30 minutes after I installed the new update? Or is this just some new bug with Big Sur the apple bug list doesn't acknowledge yet? [link] [comments]

Posted: 24 Mar 2021 04:05 PM PDT Has anyone else had any problems with the music app recently? I'm on 11.2.3 and recently, the app during playback has been weird. I'm listening to music while doing my work and as I am getting closer to the end of the song, it just decides to take me from 15s to the song ending to 5 seconds and I miss basically the lead up to the songs end..... (eg. song length 2:56, I'm at 2:43 and it will jump to 2:52 while I'm listening to the track). It happens on every single track that I have on my computer that plays through the Music app (mp3 files, not iCloud/Apple Music etc). I don't know whether this is a glitch that only I am facing or many others...... I can't seem to find anything when doing a search, so I assume this is some weird glitch that only I have.... 😂 [link] [comments] |
