Last two macOS updates have been breaking Apple Git Posted: 26 Feb 2021 02:48 PM PST For the last two updates, whenever I boot my mac and pull up one of my projects or try to use a Git command, I always get an error saying the Git executable cannot be found. Each time I had to run "xcode-select --install" to reinstall Apple Git. Is this just me or any of yall been having this odd issue? It's hella annoying! [link] [comments]
Posted: 27 Feb 2021 12:19 AM PST I know its really often problem among people but how to fix my gpu? I don't have any apple service centre in my city...any tips? [link] [comments]
notification center resets after updates Posted: 26 Feb 2021 06:38 PM PST is this by design or is this a flaw? the last two BigSur updates have reset the widgets I had setup in my notification center. It only takes 5 minutes to recreate the setup I have, but it is an annoyance. anyone else experience the same thing? [link] [comments]
Posted: 26 Feb 2021 05:57 PM PST Is there any way to download a set of Catalina icons for system apps like safari so I can use them for big sur? I think they look a lot better than the big sur icons. [link] [comments]
Displaylink Dock or Hyperdrive? Posted: 26 Feb 2021 09:34 PM PST I've wanted dual screen support on the m1Air. Displaylink provides that but then there's articles that it's software based and uses a lot of cpu causing stuttering while gaming. Is the hyperdrive a better option, but limited to one external monitor? Help me decide. Also please share your experiences in the comments. [link] [comments]

Where is Messages data in Big Sur? Posted: 26 Feb 2021 09:07 PM PST Not in the Library folder anymore. I have a set of messages I'd like to move from one MBA to another. Googled for about 30 minutes. Can't find an answer. Any ideas? [link] [comments]
Update gone wrong and very, VERY weird Posted: 26 Feb 2021 08:38 PM PST Hey everyone! I have a weird problem I need help with. This is a long read and I'm also not that knowledgable about computers so bare with me. I tried updating my MacBook Pro to Big Sur, but didn't realize I was way behind in updates - using Mojave. With me also being impatient and resetting when the update bar was full for like two hours, my computer was not having a good time. The update eventually went through, but everything on my computer was gone. I was heartbroken. I had to contact Apple for help and after them telling me things to do (such as resetting the NVRAM and booting in recovery mode) we found a solution - selecting a disk. There were two. I picked one and my computer was back to normal - reverting back to Mojave, with all my files, but with an extra hard drive called "Update". Theres a folder called "Controller" inside of it with a red circle and a line through it on the icon. The Apple technician told me they weren't 100% sure why this happened, but warned me against touching the drive, even though it's taking 20GB of space on my small HD. I used Grand Perspective to clean up some files, but as the program ran, my computer crashed and showed me a gray screen with a ?. I went back to the disk selection screen and my computer was back to normal. I knew the program was scanning the Update drive too, which obviously is causing some issues. So...I guess I just wanna know what the hell happened, and also if I can delete it somehow without hurting my Mac. I have an external hard drive so if I can't remove it, it is what it is, but yeah, just wondering. Thanks in advance for reading all this! [link] [comments]
Best way to go about clean installing Big Sur? Posted: 26 Feb 2021 08:17 AM PST As the title summarizes, I was wondering what is the best course of action for freshly installing Big Sur. I currently am on Catalina and have around 180gb of data backed up. When doing a fresh install should I back up my version of Catalina, wipe my iMac, and then install Big Sur and port over what I need to? Or would it be better to upgrade to Big Sur first, back up in the new OS, and THEN wipe the OS? I'm not sure which sequence will cause the least amount of issues. My iMac is a 2019 27" (Intel chip). I have been upgrading my OS continually throughout the years but never did a clean install of a new OS and I figure now is a good chance going from OSX to OS11. I would just prefer to do a clean install after reading about various bugs. I'm not a power user and don't have many 3rd party programs that I'm worried about not working in OS11. I would perhaps like to hear some suggestions and/or guidance on which is the best route to take, e.g. Catalina>Backup>Wipe>Big Sur>Port over data OR Catalina>Backup>Big Sur>Backup>Wipe>Port over data Any feedback is appreciated and if you have a different suggestion than the 2 listed above I'd love to hear it! Big Sur 11.2.1 Safari using significant amount of memory watching netflix Posted: 26 Feb 2021 02:57 PM PST I have a 2019 Macbook Pro 16inch running Big Sur 11.2.1. I was watching netflix and for the first time ever, I got a notification stating that Safari is using a significant amount of memory and that closing it will help the computer's responsiveness, even though the laptop was responding without any issues. Activity monitor shows no issues in memory pressure, high CPU usage, or anything else that could be cause for concern. Any idea what this means? [link] [comments]
A less refreshing fact about macOS updates. Posted: 26 Feb 2021 08:02 AM PST From the scriptingosx newsletter: "Also another minor update for macOS. It is refreshing that Apple now has the third version digit available to distinguish 'supplemental updates.' Less refreshing is the fact that even a 'minor' update which fixes a single documented issue requires a 2.6GB download and 30 minutes with multiple reboots." Edit: corrected newsletter name. Why is macOS freezes after a few rm -P Posted: 26 Feb 2021 06:28 PM PST On macOS Catalina (not sure about earlier updates and releases, but the last few updates never fixed it), `rm -P` (and possibly some other command, but I can't recall which one) some large file (usually > 5 GB, for me at least) located on an external hard drive (HDD) can freeze the OS when I do it multiple times (usually 2 times is enough, but maybe one try is enough). I'm not sure if I wait long enough, it can fix itself without a reboot, but when it happens, nothing is responsive for most of the time (also closes my VPN connection), and for a few seconds (< 2 sec) in between, I can do stuff (like trying to type `sudo reboot` in terminal), the icons on the right side of the menu bar also disappear and then repopulate one by one (like those third party app during start-up, but in this case, the system apps [like clock and Spotlight] also do this) when it's responsive. Side question, why is this subreddit not named macOS. [link] [comments]
Cannot Remember Password to Old MBP Posted: 26 Feb 2021 06:08 PM PST Hi Folks, I have an old macbook pro (2013) in front of me and I cannot remember the system password. I have tried logging in with my apple credentials, but I constantly get the error that I cannot connect to Apple ID servers. I have tried booting into recovery mode and using terminal to reset the password, but it brings me back to the same window to use my apple id credentials for reset and then I run into the same error. Any ideas of where to go from here? Thanks! [link] [comments]
