Advice on preventing someone from selling iPad?

    Posted: 09 Feb 2021 11:04 AM PST

I manage a nonprofit that has received a handful of iPads to distribute to community members who lack access to technology, coupled with training courses from my staff to ensure "digital" literacy (how to send emails, apply for jobs, browse the web safely, manage benefits, etc.). As more funds come in and candidates selected, I can't help but worry about recipients selling their iPad instead of using it as intended.

Does anyone have any advice on how I, the distributor in this situation, can prevent individuals from selling their device without overly restricting normal use? Thanks.

I need an app that quickly lets me write measurements down on a photo

    Posted: 09 Feb 2021 12:16 PM PST

I have been using the default mark up tool on my ipad pro because I like the way I can snap a picture of a work site and write measurements on it, but I end up loosing measurements because I will need to close the iPad to do something and it wont save. Could anyone suggest an app that would let me take a picture then just start writing notes on top, and one that I wouldn't have to worry about saving constantly? thanks!

Apps to learn writing with Apple Pencil?

    Posted: 09 Feb 2021 04:51 AM PST

What apps exist to help my five-year-old son learn writing / letter formation with Apple Pencil?

I am considering buying Pencil but, having looked, there are precious few apps in App Store designed with this in mind. And those that support it seem to have just bolted Pencil support on to their original finger letter formation model - eg. Writing Wizard.

What, if anything, am I missing?

I was hoping to augment paper writing exercises with iPad.

    Thanks.

A few things people don’t mention about the Magic Mouse 2 with the iPad Pro

    Posted: 08 Feb 2021 05:43 PM PST

I was watching a couple of videos trying to see which mouse worked best with the iPad Pro and I genuinely think a lot of these people don't even use iPad's at all because they all said the Magic Mouse and Magic Trackpad worked flawlessly and were the best options by far. Not only are all the customization options tied to assistive touch, but the scrolling is hot garbage on the Magic Mouse compared to the trackpad on my magic keyboard. I was blown away by how little lag there was on the trackpad and was expecting similar results on the mouse but it's not even close.

Also, navigating iPadOS with the trackpad is a dream while navigating with the Magic Mouse is a complete nightmare and getting it to work is a complete mess. That's why I genuinely believe that nobody who reviews these things actually uses them themselves or they use them so infrequently that they have no idea what they're talking about. Will probably return this thing and maybe buy a Magic Trackpad, idk.

    Matte screen protector

    Posted: 09 Feb 2021 04:20 AM PST

I bought a cheap 5$ matte screen protector a few weeks ago for my iPad 12.9. It made the screen kinda blurry, and faded out the colors a bit. I was wondering if a more expensive screen protector like Paperlike for example would do the same or if they look like the normal screen. Can someone answer that question? Thanks :)

Are iPad's COPPA and CIPA compliant? Should the device be compliant if we are purchasing it for elementary schools?

    Hide the App store?

    Posted: 09 Feb 2021 07:33 AM PST

Hi! Is it possible to hide or lock the App store? My disabled kiddo is great at searching for apps and asking for them, but isn't currently able to understand concepts about money. I have had to erase search history for apps that no longer exist, but I'm stuck with locking her out of the app store. 8th generation, software 14.3

    Thanks for reading.

*My kiddo is unique and disabled. Just telling her 'no' doesn't work right now.

    Old iPad PDF Reader

    Posted: 08 Feb 2021 07:49 PM PST

    Hello r/iPad!

I hope this is appropriate to post here, not sure where else I might post it, and I don't believe it violates any of the rules.

I have an old iPad (4th generation I think) that I recently wiped to start fresh. All I really want to do on it is read PDFs (academic papers, textbooks, etc). The only issue is I can't seem to find any good PDF reading app that's compatible with iOS 10.

My question is does anyone have any recommendations for me? Google hasn't been too helpful. I wish there was a way to filter by iOS compatibility, but presumably this helps to push people to buy new hardware (not really an option for me right now).

If anyone has suggestions for PDF readers for old iPads, or a way for me to browse what scant options I have, that would be fantastic!

    Thanks in advance!

I made a stupid mistake and I’m begging for help!

    Posted: 08 Feb 2021 12:11 PM PST

I have an iPad 8th gen running on iPadOS 14.1 I had some pictures on my phone(about 400) which were making my phone lose its shit. So I transferred those to my iPad. Included pictures of my birthday, my recently week long trip, and my dead dog. Now, being the dumb head that I am. I created a new album and added the photos there and deleted those from recent. Turns out, if you delete it from recents, it got deleted from everywhere. And I even removed it from recently deleted. And I don't have a back up which I can restore.

Any way I could still restore the images?

Alternatively, Is there a way I can get an older backup of my phone? It backs up all its data every night on iCloud and I might have the images there if I can recover the data from 2 days ago.

    Thank you so very much.
