Posted: 27 Jan 2021 02:05 AM PST Pretty much as the title says, Migration Assistant certainly hasn't saved me as much time as I would've hoped! I was getting some weird glitched with MP4 files, a clean install seemed to fix the issue, so I restored my files from a time machine backup - thinking the issue might come back, but it hasn't. Unfortunately, all of my apps seem to be borked - some more than others. Adobe apps wouldn't load at all, re-installed - Steam kept coming up with errors about being from an Unidentified Developer - for about 10 different files within the .app. I allowed these to load via Security panel, but clearly something's going wrong as Steam is not from an unidentified developer! Anyone know what's going on? [link] [comments]
If all my VMs and Macs are on Big Sure 11.1 is it possible to get 11.0 installed on VM Posted: 26 Jan 2021 10:10 PM PST Trying to find a way to install 11.0 on VM or one of my Macs. I have all the VMs and my Mac on 11.1, but need to test a few things (just starting as a Mac developer) on 11.0. Is there are a way to get 11.0 installer? Or downgrade from 11.1 to 11.0? default.profraw files preventing OneDrive/SharePoint Sync Posted: 26 Jan 2021 11:47 PM PST Hi, Does anyone know which program generates these files? I googled and found out CleanMyMac could be responsible, but that program is not installed. Before thrashing all my programs I wanted to reach out this here. The files are hidden as well, so it took some time figuring this out ^^ [link] [comments]
Posted: 26 Jan 2021 06:56 PM PST I mean, if the MacBook is using the battery as its energy source, I'd like it to sleep when closing the lid. But if the power cable is connected and the MacBook is using that power source, I'd like to prevent it from sleeping. Thanks so much for your help! [link] [comments]
Darn. No Big Sur v11.2 release today with the other Apple releases. Posted: 26 Jan 2021 04:35 PM PST I guess v11.2 is not ready yet. That's OK. I hope v11.2 will be better. [link] [comments]
How to use Google Meet Virtual Background on Safari? Posted: 26 Jan 2021 02:30 PM PST I have a 2015 MacBook Pro. Have been using Chrome to join Google Meet for weeks. But MBP overheated quickly when join Google Meet video calls with multiple people. I tried to fall back video encoder as someone suggested. But no big improvements. Tried to use Safari this morning, and turns out surprisingly good. But cannot find the menu to turn on virtual background or blur background in the Google video meetings. Anyone has suggestions on this issue? Thanks. [link] [comments]
Posted: 26 Jan 2021 05:21 PM PST I am migrating back to Windows from MacOs, it totally jacked up my file names and folder structure. I have my Windows backups with the correct naming convention but that was over a year ago. I have all the pictures from MacOs but they are in the nonsensical folder structure and all the file names are wrong. Is there any way from MacOS to get it back in an actual original file name and folder structure or am I doomed? [link] [comments]
iMessage on my MBP macOS Catalina shows phone numbers instead of contact names for a lot of my texts Posted: 26 Jan 2021 11:58 AM PST So when I go to iMessage on my MacBook Pro (macOS Catalina) a lot of my messages show the person's phone number instead of their contact name that I have saved in my iPhone. This isn't for everyone, but for a lot of my contacts. Is this normal? How can I fix this? Thanks [link] [comments]
Is there a way to disable Top Hits in Notes? Posted: 26 Jan 2021 07:39 PM PST I'd been dreading updating to Big Sur because I use Apple Notes for a lot of stuff, and the experience of Top Hits in Mail was so, so bad it made me stop using Mail entirely. Welp, I forgot Top Hits was coming to Apple Notes and now, one hour in to Big Sur, I am deeply regretting the update. EDIT - In theory, it wouldn't be such a bad idea, but the implementation is terrible. When it came out for mail.app, I used to miss mail all the time because 20 years of scanning email has trained my eyes to scan the top of the inbox, and the small text and light grey lines of the Top Hits section made my brain think "oh there's nothing there" constantly. I know Apple's solution would be "lol just retrain your brain" but that's obnoxious. Apple generally gets design right, but when they fuck up they fuck up bad, and Top Hits feels like a prime example. Also, the Top Hits were never relevant. Not once. I don't know if it's my natural hatred for recommendation engines that makes them hate me back, but despite their ever-increasing pushiness they have never done shit for me, and now I just resent the PMs and devs who make them. Should I update my MacBook to the latest macOS Big Sur? Posted: 26 Jan 2021 05:27 PM PST This is the machine that I have: MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013) Currently, have macOS Catalina installed. Works fine but has started hanging while I work. Several people have told me not to update it, as my Mac will get slower and will possibly crash. Should I update it? [link] [comments]

Help. Screen crack and stuck in login page. Posted: 26 Jan 2021 04:42 PM PST Too long didn't read ? - Cracked screen led to intermittent connection to external monitor and now stucked at login page with 75% progress bar. Hi guys, I'm using a 16 inch MacBook Pro running on Catalina and it was bought in 2020. Yesterday i noticed that there was a hairline crack with the remaining screen blacked out. Brought to the service centre and tried to connect to the external monitor with no luck. After about 20 tries, rebooting, and removing some screws at the base area - the monitor managed to connect. Initially the monitor showed the apple logo and got stuck at the progress bar. Tried to do safe login. Now at the login screen (after entering password) showed the progress bar at 75%. Interestingly my 1password requested for Touch ID access. What is wrong with my 9 month old laptop? Ps. I use disk vault. [link] [comments]

Anyone w/ Success Upgrading to Big Sur on Third Party SSD? Posted: 26 Jan 2021 03:44 PM PST I have a late 2013 MBP that I have yet to upgrade to Big Sur. I'm planning on replacing my 128GB SSD with a 1TB WD SN750. I've seen quite a few posts over the past few months of people specifically having issues with Big Sur when downloading it onto a third party SSD. I know that 11.1 was recently released though. Does anyone have any info? Should I just stick with Catalina? I'm in desperate need of a new SSD and I'd like to get a few more years out of my current MBP. [link] [comments]
Turn off True Tone when Night Shift is enabled? Posted: 26 Jan 2021 03:41 PM PST Is there any way to set True Tone to turn off when Night shift turns on. The screen feels unnaturally yellow when both are enabled. Do you use True tone on Mac? [link] [comments]
Integrated vs. Discrete GPU for Metal, 4K and other graphics-intensive tasks? Posted: 26 Jan 2021 02:33 PM PST I recently just discovered this app 9gfxCardStatus) that allows you to force:
For the longest time, I had been playing games like Civ 6, wondering why the only available graphics card I had was the Intel UHD Graphics 630. I had assumed the automatic switching started with Intel UHD and eventually switched over to the Radeon Pro Vega 16 when the graphics started to lag (it doesn't, as the app's monitor feature had "Intel UHD" every time I checked). Now I'm confused... shouldn't I be forcing the discrete graphics (Radeon Pro Vega 16) whenever I'm gaming or watching 4K movies? What are the effects of that on a logic-based game (CPU-intensive) like Civ 6?
I always thought that Radeon Pro Vega 16 would've been the primary option for gaming. [link] [comments]
Is there a way to cut mouse sensitivity in MacOS? Posted: 26 Jan 2021 02:28 PM PST I have an Evoluent vertical mouse. It's expensive to replace every few years. I can't use conventional mice without tendon and ulnar nerve injuries. It's been giving spurious double clicks when I make single clicks. It's by far the most frustrating when using middle-clicks to open links in Firefox, but it's also started acting up with left clicks in Finder. I see a lot of instructions to change mouse sensitivity by changing mouse speed settings, but I'm trying to change mouse sensitivity. As in sensitivity. I know there's a setting for double-click speed, but that's to distinguish repeated single clicks from double-clicks, not to distinguish a single single click with a split-second error from double-clicks. So I'd need to turn off the fastest "double clicks" not the slowest. Using Mojave, 10.14.6. [link] [comments]
