Posted: 16 Jan 2021 01:50 AM PST I have downloaded an image which showed 3.6MB in size and then 4MB on Size on Disk. I tried to transfer the image to an FAT32 USB drive, then the Size on Disk becomes 3.6MB, I get it sometimes its all about the cluster and packets thing, but the interesting part is that I transferred the file back from the USB to the Mac and the Size on Disk for the local file in Mac is downsized to 3.6MB again. Anyone care to explain?? [link] [comments]

accidentally forced shut down MacBook? Posted: 16 Jan 2021 01:46 AM PST hello everyone, I want to apologize for my English, I'm Italian. As I wrote in the title, I accidentally forced my MacBook M1 to shut down. Since I bought this two days ago, I'm now (looking also at the price) really paranoid with that. I simply kept pressing the Touch ID button and boom, black screen. Now, my MacBook works fine, but I'm afraid that I could've corrupted some system files or some registry keys. I have already checked in utility disk my disks with the S.O.S. function and everything is ok, giving me "0" as results. But I also know that there could be corrupted files that it won't see. You'd say why I should be so paranoid if everything work fine? Well, I'm afraid that it now will have slowdowns and etc. Should I be worried? Should I return it and get a replacement? Or should I stay calm since it happened only once? How does macOS act in these situations? I hope that someone will help me. Thank you, have a good day! [link] [comments]
AppStore, Software Update, Safari aren’t working -Big Sur 11.1 Posted: 16 Jan 2021 01:07 AM PST My computer for some reason will not connect to Apple's servers... my AppStore will not show me anything, when I try to click software update, I get this error: "Didn't get a response from the Software Update server (swscan.apple.com)." Also Safari will not load any websites. Luckily I have Firefox on my computer already, and it's working perfectly. Other apps like news and podcasts won't load either.. any ideas? Thanks! 2010 iMac running macOS High Sierra 10.13.6. What are my options going forward? Posted: 16 Jan 2021 12:12 AM PST I use my 2010 iMac on a daily basis for work. It's doing everything I need even though it's still running High Sierra. I was pleasantly surprised when Apple released a security update for High Sierra a few weeks ago. Since I can't upgrade beyond 10.13, is there any official word on how long they will keep releasing security updates? Also, what if they stop, do I have to get a new iMac? I really don't want to install something else on it. I did install Ubuntu (which I really like), but it's not the same and I ended up re-installing High Sierra. If Apple stops releasing security updates, I would definitely look into buying a new iMac if this is my only option. Any tips or recommendations would be appreciated. [link] [comments]

Posted: 15 Jan 2021 03:30 PM PST I was making it more complicated than I needed to so if I can help anyone, even 1 person, then great. How to Tldr: - Log in with Big Sur as per normal and your AppleID. - Google Catalina Download Apple Support: download the Catalina Updated 15.10.7. Apples link will open AppStore. download Catalina and create a bootable installer of Catalina on an external drive using MacOS Extended Journaled GUID partition.
—— So my story My issue: I couldn't get my Native Instruments Kontrol S4 Mk3 working with Big Sur. Current Big Sur 11.1 doesn't support it. The unit lags, NI have put out a statement that the jog wheel motors can break (if you can even use the unit) so I needed to get Catalina back. My first step was wiping the drives. This was the mistake. Then I reinstalled Big Sur, created a bootable install of Catalina following Apples advice, wiped the drives again. It didn't work. I kept getting the -1008F code, even after removing my Mac from my iCloud/AppleID many times. So I almost gave up. I couldn't figure out why. I checked the internet and knew that the "Bootable Installer" settings in Recovery had to be set to "allow" and security to "no security" but I couldn't access this as "there is no administrator for this Mac". This is because I wiped Big Sur before I changed this setting. I woke up this morning thinking "huh. Why don't I, using Big Sur, change that setting then just try booting the Installer without wiping the Mac?" ಠ_ಠ 🤦♂️ So yeah. I did the above. It worked. This is after staying up late multiple nights this week and getting depressed that it wasn't going to work. It was much simpler than I was making it. You just need to change that security setting, boot Catalina recovery using your bootable installer, then wipe the drive and install from the Catalina recovery screen. I'm happy and look forward to mixing on my new hardware! Thanks for reading. [link] [comments]
so my M1 Mac mini won't go to sleep? Posted: 15 Jan 2021 06:56 PM PST its set to sleep after an hour and that isn't happening and even if I go to the emu and click sleep, the screen will go blank for a second and then it will come right back on... thought? [link] [comments]
Night shift not working on external monitor Posted: 15 Jan 2021 06:00 PM PST I just bought an LG 38WK95C-W to use with my current and future MacBook Air and eventually an M1 Mac Mini. This monitor is thunderbolt capable and appears specifically designed to work with the Mac. So far it works great and I have had only one problem... Tgat problem is that the night shift settings don't show up for the external monitor. They only appear for the built-in Retina display. Has anyone encountered this? How did you solve it? Why does my computer struggle to support windows Posted: 15 Jan 2021 07:34 PM PST So I used bootcamp to get windows on my latest iMac and shit sucked. At first it was okay, I was able to play my games without any problem but then it gradually got worse and worse. It would become so laggy and corrupted that I could barely login without 300 random screens popping up and having to wait for an hour just to get in. I deleted windows after 20 days because it was glitching/slowing down so hard. Then I re-installed and just like before it went from okay to wtf is going on. I really have no clue what could have even started this because it seems like other computers aren't having problems with this. [link] [comments]
MacOS BigSur 11.1 random battery drain. Posted: 15 Jan 2021 06:02 PM PST Anyone else having this issue? Before updating (prev High Seira) my battery drain was normal. Now it's terrible. Draining 2% every 5m or so with literally nothing running. Not the only one with this issue. [link] [comments]
Can't Get iMac to authenticate Time Capsule for restore Posted: 15 Jan 2021 05:44 PM PST Hello All, I upgraded my 2015 iMac 5K to an SSD and I'm using MacOS Recovery to try and restore my iMac from my 2TB Time Capsule. I get to the screen for restoring from Time Capsule and the iMac sees it, prompts me to log in, and when I click to log in, it just closes the credential window and does nothing. No error message, no sign of trying to Authenticate, nothing. It will login to my wife's Time Capsule account just fine. I tried logging into my Time Capsule account on my MacBook Pro, and no issues there. I have tried resetting the TC account password in AirPort Utility, rebooted the Time Capsule, rebooted the iMac, and it won't work. Any ideas? [link] [comments]

Posted: 15 Jan 2021 12:55 PM PST Ever since I have upgraded my old 2013 MBA to the new M1 MBA iCloud doesn't seem to work well. Various calendar appointments are missing and new taken photos from my iPhone don't seem to sync at all. My iCloud profile picture was different for both devices as well (Animoji vs. standard Apple picture) [link] [comments]
Significant performance improvements on M1? Not here. Posted: 15 Jan 2021 03:31 PM PST I recently got the M1 MacBook Pro. Used Migration Assistant to effectively copy over my old MacBook Pro running Catalina. So far, I've seen negligible performance improvements and actually have had more crashes than anything. It seems nearly everything I use is running on Rosetta, and it almost feels like I've downgraded, rather than upgraded, which should not be the case on an over $1000 new computer. Is anyone else having this experience? Any tips for where I should really notice performance improvements? [link] [comments]
massive lag when entering passwords anywhere on safari Posted: 15 Jan 2021 03:10 PM PST title explains it all, wondering if it's just an unfortunate glitch or something i should be genuinely worried about. happens every time i create online accounts, or log in as well and only happens when entering the password, not the username. Help! spotlight continuously indexing my external TM drive Posted: 15 Jan 2021 03:07 PM PST I updated our drives and moved my time machine backup to a new drive. It's 3TB back up on a 8TB drive. Spotlight has been indexing for hours and i can't figure out how to stop it. I also updated my husband's TM to a new drive and his was fine. I can't figure it out and it's driving me nuts. Banktivity Transitioned to Subscription Model so I moved to Moneyspire Posted: 15 Jan 2021 11:20 AM PST When I purchase a new laptop, I like to start with clean installs of the software I use instead of restoring from a Time Machine backup. A week ago, when my new M1 MacBook Pro arrived, I downloaded the latest copy of Banktivity. I started with the software when Intuit decided not to produce a version of Quicken for the Mac any longer (they later reversed course, but too late) and had been relatively happy with it. But the new download was version 8 and they wanted forty-five dollars a year for a subscription just for me to do basic financial management. Uh...No So I purchased Moneyspire 2020, of which the personal edition is a one time charge. Program does what I want it to do, the user interface is clean and easily understood. Bye, bye Banktivity. Your customer went elsewhere. [link] [comments]
DBMS on M1 running Big Sur - any pitfalls or things to watch for? Posted: 15 Jan 2021 02:46 PM PST I was thinking about running a MariaDB instance on my new M1 Mac Mini, so I did a little research, and it looks like doing this with Homebrew is pretty easy, but there's some potential issues with the CONNECT engine. Will that make for problems if I wanted to write a front-end interface using PHP or Python? [link] [comments]
Working off an external SSD, worth it? Posted: 15 Jan 2021 02:42 PM PST Guys I'm going to order a mac mini m1 and macbook air m1. I am thinking of going with 16gb ram and 256gb storage variant on both the devices. I was thinking of getting a Samsung T7 1TB SSD and use it for both the devices (one at a time). I use Photoshop, illustrator, adobe xd, sketch, figma and a little bit of video editing. So I wanted to ask, can I use this external SSD for both working off from it and also for storage after the work is done. I'm not going to store anything on the mac mini nor the mac book Air, I'll only install the applications mentioned above and some apps from the appstore. So is working off an external SSD and storing data on it worth it? I don't mind the speed difference as the external SSD seems to read and write around 830MB/S. I wanted to know if 256gb storage will be a bottle neck or will I cause any performance issues even if I don't really store any files like I mentioned earlier. Will the applications handle reading and writing files off the external SSD properly or will there be and issue because of it. Please give suggestions. Any kind of help is appreciated. Thank you [link] [comments] |
