- A few months ago I finished my first macOS app. It is an application to make life easier and let you store your often-used snippets in one place. You can add customizable placeholders and also some scripts. It works like Spotlight. It's 100% free, enjoy! App Store: apps.apple.com/us/app/id1530751461

Big Sur - can't reply in an iMessage notification anymore? Posted: 27 Jan 2021 08:17 PM PST With previous OS versions, when iMessages came in as a notification in the top right of the screen, there was a reply button where you could with one click reply within the notification, without opening iMessage. Now, with Big Sur, when you get an iMessage notification, you have to click the three dots, then click "See More", and then you're able to reply within the notification. WHY is it this way? What is the point of "See More" - there's literally nothing to more to see, it just allows you to reply when you click it... Why can't I just reply like in previous versions? I don't understand why developers go out of their way to make useless changes like this... This is really my only complaint about Big Sur. [link] [comments]
Big Sur - Your computer was restarted because of a problem Posted: 27 Jan 2021 06:06 PM PST Is anyone else getting this at every login? Started for me a couple of weeks ago, every login after a fresh restart of my computer I get this prompt. [link] [comments]

"there was an error connecting to the apple id" Macbook pro 2017 Posted: 28 Jan 2021 01:07 AM PST Ok so basically today I went into get my computer connected to school internet and im not entirely sure how they connect but I know they did some things in keychain, (they being the IT people). After I got home I tried to get my iMessage etc to sync with my phone but it wouldn't work so I logged out of my apple ID to try log back in to see if that worked. Now after a good 5 minutes of loading all I get is this: "there was an error connecting to the apple id" and I'm not able to sign in to iCloud. [link] [comments]

Posted: 28 Jan 2021 12:32 AM PST A few months ago I ran into the problem of high CPU usage for accountsd (it was also mentioned on this subreddit). It was a new macbook for me, so it's hard to say what change caused it. It happened on Big Sur, but I think it occurred on different macOS versions for other people. I use two user accounts on my macbook both logged into the same Apple ID and in my case the problem was solved by signing out my Apple ID on one of the user accounts. This wasn't too big a deal, because it's my work account and I don't need my Apple ID that much there. It's still annoying though. I've tried logging in again for a few times, but the problem always came back. Does anyone with the same experience know if this problem has been solved yet? I'm kinda scared to try because I'm afraid the problem will stay at some point. [link] [comments]
Posted: 28 Jan 2021 12:16 AM PST So I managed to use the command line to merge together all the text documents in a folder in to one output document, but I'm realising now that that's not much use to me because I can't easily tell from what document each piece of text comes from. Is there a way to include the filename 1 line above the text such that the resulting document will read something like: At the moment it just looks like this: Obviously in that example it's quite clear which text is from what file, but in my case the text merged together in to one doc is actually just URLs, and the filename, is the name of the file downloaded from that URL. I'm realising now after the fact that this wasn't a clever way to do things because I just have list of URLs with no idea what they are in reference to, hence wanting to include the filename. Airplay from Big Sur to Apple TV Sucks Posted: 27 Jan 2021 06:08 PM PST Is it just me or does the mew Big Sur Control Center interface for AirPlay totally suck? I can easily enable AirPlay to one of my Apple TV's, but disabling AirPlay (ie stopping my Mac from streaming content to a TV) requires me to go into the Displays Preference Pane (multiple steps) instead of simply turning AirPlay off with one click via the system menu bar Displays widget (like Catalina Mojave etc) What am I missing here? Exchange Account Calendar sync to macOS Posted: 27 Jan 2021 11:59 PM PST Hi! I have an Exchange account on my mac with my calendar. On this account, when logged in to outlook I also have a friend's calendar added to see when he's busy. Problem is that this calendar doesn't show up in the mac calendar app. Only my own calendars on my Exchange account shows up. How can I make this calendar show up as well? Thanks in advance. Posted: 27 Jan 2021 11:35 PM PST Recently my USB ports for the intel based MacBook Pro 2020 got disabled while using a third party dongle, I tried doing a PRAM and a SMC reset multiple times the issue still retains. Any ideas on how I go on about fixing this issue? [link] [comments]
Tracking down the source of an application password on Keychain Access? Posted: 27 Jan 2021 11:33 PM PST I have an unidentified login recorded in iCloud called "__iokstg__" with multiple activities over the last few days. The only information I can find about it is that it is from a company called Iovation and that it is possible spyware. Is there anything I can do to narrow down where this login is coming from? I only see this entry under the iCloud tab in Keychain Access and it is labelled as an application password. I am currently on the latest version of Catalina. Thanks! [link] [comments]

I downloaded Big Sur and now I’m not an admin on my only Macbook Air account Posted: 27 Jan 2021 06:03 PM PST I've tried an SMC restart. mount - uv / controls don't work on the terminal anymore. I tried redownloading big sur but it just brought me back to the sign-in screen, instead of giving me the opportunity to create a new account. Absolutely inexcusable bug imo [link] [comments]
Posted: 27 Jan 2021 05:32 PM PST The way iCloud Books is supposed to work, once you import a EPUB/PDF into Apple Books, is as follows:
PROBLEM: My issue is that about 50 books, including some recently imported books, never synced via iCloud Books. Therefor, I can read them on my Mac, but they will not show up on my iPhone or iPad. QUESTION: Is there any way I can force these books to sync with iCloud Books, to join the rest of my collection? Notes:

Posted: 27 Jan 2021 02:18 PM PST My 2019 16" macbook pro is connected to 2 4K screens in my livingroom. One is 65" and is my media screen and the other is 58" and I used that for reading and everything else. Up until today that screen was a 1080P but now because of an accident it was replaced by a 4K. The issue is when I have them set as 4K the text is too small so I used scaled resolution and make it "looks like 1080" however when I launch my video player Kodi it only sees the screen as 1080P and won't run videos in 4k downscaling them. Is there a way for me to make the display show elements increased in size but actually keep the resolution of the screen at 4K, basically blow up icons and windows etc. On a PC that can be done easily and I thought that is what scaling did but the fact that KODI doesn't play videos in 4K is throwing me off. Thank you all in advance. [link] [comments]
Posted: 27 Jan 2021 07:38 PM PST Hello all, I'm new to this sub so please forgive me if I'm in the wrong place/day to ask this question. I'm considering purchasing a MacBook this weekend but I'm going to be sharing it with my spouse. I know we can create two separate accounts/log ins on the MacBook. But could they use their iCloud on their account and I have my own on mine? Basically him being able to still use iMessage, see his iCloud photos on his account. And I do the same on my account. Find Offline: only works for 1 hour? Posted: 27 Jan 2021 02:40 PM PST The Find Offline feature of the new Find My is supposed to allow one to find devices even if they have no traditional connectivity, ostensibly via Bluetooth beacons received by other Apple devices, irrespective of their ownership. However, I notice that if my Find Offline enabled MacBook Pro has the lid closed for longer than what would trigger a deeper sleep state to occur, the device effectively becomes a ghost. Doesn't this defeat the point of the feature? There is no SMC based timer that sends out occasional beacons during sleep? It only works if someone finds it, opens the lid, and keeps the machine awake? Is this the intended behavior? [link] [comments]

Always show widgets on the right side of the screen? Posted: 27 Jan 2021 12:10 PM PST Hallo. Is it possible to "always show" the widgets on the right side of the screen? Perhaps via some console command? Thank you! D. [link] [comments] |
