| Yet another "export messages"? Posted: 29 Jan 2021 10:48 PM PST The family want to grab text messages and imessages and export them for storage locally. Reason being the passing of a dear relative. From my coco-crazy-linuxy way of thinking about computers and such devices; exporting text messages into human readable text files should be trivial. I'm having a hard time swallowing the solution "pay 50$ and get this app to do it" or jailbreak your iPhone and somehow grab the content you want". It's text-content, letters and numbers, the next step after punch cards and teletypes. So what I'm looking for here is to:

It plays fine all the way through in my files app. However, since I like to have an app that can save my spot in such a large file and can also rewind/fast forward 15 seconds, I'm trying to open it in these mp3-audiobook-podcast apps. Well, every time I open my 30-hour audiobook in any one of these apps, it can play perfectly fine for exactly the first 2 hours and 5 minutes, and then after that, the 28 hours following are just complete silence. | 50% overnight battery drain (two weeks old iPhone 12) Posted: 29 Jan 2021 10:33 AM PST Obviously this is not normal. iOS 14.3 Over 50% battery was left when I went to bed. I put it on airplane mode. Wifi and Bluetooth was on as I listen to podcasts and fall asleep listening. Sleep timer for 30mins was on. From 1 am to 5-6 am the phone did nothing at all but battery ran out and it turned off. 8 am alarm didn't go off and I was late to work. The thing is my 8 year old iPhone 5 has never done this during its excellent service all these years. Battery app shows nothing just a bar chart of battery steadily going down hill. Nothing was on... When I had an android I could browse any website and when it came time to put on my payment info, I would click on the credit card number box and Google pay would open a box with all my credit cards and auto fill w/e cc I chose as long as I knew the 3 digit security code. How can I make Apple Pay do the same? It is annoying having to wait till I am near my wallet to purchase anything online on my iPhone. | iPhone acting weird with Reddit app, refusing to download it properly from the App Store. Posted: 29 Jan 2021 06:26 PM PST So I knew I hadn't got enough space to download it, but I tend to do that thing where's I press the icon to ty, just in case it works. I can't remember what exactly went wrong, but I restarted my phone for some reason to find that the app was still there (as is expected when you have an app icon for an app you're trying to download), except it had no icon anymore, just the stock icon. When I went to the App Store, it said I hadn't tried to download it yet, and the button wasn't there to try, but this became useless as soon as it began trying to download it. It would say there wasn't enough space, but the icon wouldn't reappear as normal. Instead, it would stay stuck on the round wheel (the one with the stop button in the middle), with no way to interact with it. The only way to reset it is to restart the iPhone, but doing that made the app with the stock icon reappear, even if I deleted it. This happens even if I don't try to download it from the App Store again. I've tried some suggested fixes, signing out of the App Store and signing back in, and also signing out, resetting the networks (which made my phone restart), and eventually signing back in. This did nothing. Should I try to make the space and allow the app to download when the App Store doesn't recognise the icon? I can try, but the "not enough space" message pops up without the "waiting..." line underneath the app first. At best, I'll get a loading wheel for a second, which would be usual, but I still don't know if this is a sign it would work. Has anybody else experienced this before? It just doesn't let me talk or hear calls. The option isn't available. I use my Bluetooth headphones and can talk. There's literally no option to choose speaker or handset. I've restarted phone. Yesterday I restarted and it worked for about twenty minutes. I heard static a few times. My speakers and mic work. Can someone lead me in the right direction? | Posted: 29 Jan 2021 03:05 PM PST Recently sold an iPhone, at first I erased then removed the device from my iCloud but that still had the activation lock on it. Had the buyer log into my account, sign out of iCloud on it and erase the phone. I got the email that says "find my iPhone has been disabled in addition your Apple ID and password are no longer required for someone to erase, reactivate and use your iPhone." I assumed that meant the phone is no longer activation locked but I got a message a couple hours later from the buyer saying that the phone is still on my account. | Are pictures taken with 2.5x zoom meant to look worse than ones taken with 1x? Posted: 29 Jan 2021 12:16 PM PST I have the 12 Pro Max, and I love it! But I noticed recently that 2.5x pictures seem to look worse than 1x pictures. I can't explain the difference, really, but it seems like maybe the sharpness is overblown? I frequently use 2.5x to take pictures of smaller things, but keeping them in focus. The 1x doesn't do up-close photography so well. https://imgur.com/gallery/1HbfEsf For the Wonder Woman picture, the difference is rather slight. But there is a loss in clarity and uptick in grain with it. Very slightly. The Kingdom of Heaven one is the best example I have. The 1x is very clear, sharp, and more pleasant to look at (aside from the dust, which was totally just planted there by me for these pictures, to show off the resolution... obviously...) Whereas the 2.5x seems to lose the color, and the grain is completely out of whack. It's not a good picture to look at, with or without the comparison. This is bothering me a lot. I thought the point of optical zoom was that it didn't lose clarity when zooming in. But these examples (and many more I've seen) seem to indicate that isn't true. Is something wrong with my camera? | Posted: 29 Jan 2021 09:09 AM PST Hi! Quite an unbelievable story, so I am already expecting to get called a liar/thief etc. etc., but hear me out. Recently, my cousin got back from vacation and found an iPhone lodged in her sofa, disabled. The sim card had been removed. We tried charging it, only to find that the iPhone is disabled. When we plugged it in, we found a split second between the display turning on and changing to the disabled screen to see the wallpaper, which was this lab puppy, this doesnt really add anything to whats happened but just trying to prove my innocence. After checking out the lab, my cousin couldnt figure out who the dog, and so the phone, belonged to. Now, we're stuck with a lost and disabled iPhone. I want to clarify, it is definitely not stolen. My cousin often has friends come round the house, the whole family uses iPhones (and ironically has labs), but nobody has claimed the phone. The chances of a kid dropping the phone and forgetting about it are highly likely, but what has us stumped is why nobody would have said they lost their phone. So, here I am. I'm asking if there's anyway to find the owner of a disabled iPhone 7. Im guessing my best bet is through AppleID but I have no idea how to find that. Thanks in advance. [link] [comments]  |

| iPhone Storage usage data incorrect Posted: 29 Jan 2021 08:29 AM PST Hi My iPhone XR running iOS 14.3 is showing the wrong storage usage, it's been like this for over a year. I have 256 GB, it should be very close to being full but it only shows 122.1 GB used. The Photos app is showing 6.2 GB used but this is clearly wrong, I don't know if any other app is wrong. Last I checked iTunes on my desktop shows the phone as nearly full but I think this may be wrong also. I spoke to Apple customer support and we tried restoring the iPhone but this didn't change anything. This is pretty worrying as my iPhone at one point got so full it wasn't able to boot up for a few days. All I've been able to do is delete some apps and hope it doesn't get to this point again.
