Impossible to create high sierra install disk! Posted: 06 Nov 2020 01:57 AM PST Hello, This is diving me nuts, thought mac os was supposed to be user friendly... my a** I want to upgrade a late 2011 mbp from sierra to high sierra. Can anyone show me a way to create an install disk? Why the hell isn't it available via apple? This is planned obsolescence at its finest. If I click the link on their site it opens store but it's not there. So I tried downloading the install image via torrent sites but I can't burn the img file no matter how hard I try.... stuck. thanks for helping. [link] [comments]

Help! New iMac running sooo slow Posted: 05 Nov 2020 04:06 PM PST I bought a new 2017 iMac last year from Best Buy and it takes forever to do anything - just to sign in and open a browser takes 5 minutes. Forget running multiple programs. Can someone take a look at the specs and tell me what to avoid when purchasing my next computer or how to fix this one? MacOS Catalina - Rename Bluetooth Devices Not Working (Apple Magic Keyboard and Trackpad) Posted: 05 Nov 2020 09:40 AM PST Hey Guys, I bought a used Apple Magic Keyboard and Trackpad from a buddy and sync'd everything to my mac mini, and it currently works perfectly. The only issue is I am trying to rename both devices (currently it has my buddy's name and I want to use mine), but every time I try to rename either device and hit OK, the name change doesn't seem to stick. I am using MacOS Catalina on a 2012 Mac Mini if that helps. If anyone could offer any assistance, it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance everyone! [link] [comments]
macOS using many swapins and running like rubbish, is this a straightforward fix? Posted: 05 Nov 2020 11:45 AM PST I've been a long-time macOS (and general Unix-like OS) user, my family have a late 2015 iMac running Catalina they want me to look at. It's running like absolute rubbish, so I had a look and realised it was swapping out like crazy. The thing is is, they have 8 GB of memory which isn't an awful lot these days but it's usually fine for my work machine (a 13" Air from the same era) and I'm generally pushing it a bit harder than the "MS Office and the odd bit of photo editing" that an ordinary family machine gets used for. My first thought is just to drop some larger sticks of memory in it to stop it constantly paging out, but two things stop me. The first is that even on a system that's constantly swapping out to the SSD it's not usually that slow so perhaps the SSD is knackered too (on account of the endless swapouts). The second is that this seems a little easy a fix for literally the slowest I've ever seen macOS run (and I had a 2004 PowerBook with the infamous "logic board falling to bits" issue). Any thought? Catalina 10.15 bash profile not saving mysql path (? Posted: 05 Nov 2020 02:53 PM PST hi everybody. I'm new to mac and I installed mysql, I wanted to work using the terminal so I watched a tutorial where they add the path using "export PATH=${PATH}:/usr/local/mysql/bin/" to the .bash_profile file , I saved the file and it worked the first time but I closed the terminal and now when I try to use the command I get "zsh: command not found: mysql" even though the content of bash file hasn't changed, does anyone know why this is happening or what can I do? Automatically delete old emails in Mail app. Posted: 05 Nov 2020 07:17 AM PST Is there a way to automatically delete old emails? I made a rule in mail.app to delete messages older than xxx days but nothing happens. Is there another way to do that? EDIT: I've 10.5.6 installed. [link] [comments]
Late 2013 MBP macOS install help Posted: 05 Nov 2020 06:10 AM PST I have a 13" late 2013 MacBook Pro with 8gb RAM that didn't have an internal SSD until today. I have been using 10.12.x on an external 1TB drive for the past few years, and wanted to upgrade to Catalina or even settle for high Sierra. I just got a 500gb OWC Aura drive that looks like an M.2 but isn't. TL;DR I can't get above 10.12.6 on an external drive and I can't get anything to fully install on the internal. Here's what is working: -High Sierra and Catalina installers can detect and attempt writing to internal drive -Sierra installer can write to external drive and MacBook can successfully boot from it Here are my problems: -Sierra installer and recovery do not detect internal drive (macOS journaled; GUID partition map) in disk utility or installer app at all. Also does not show up when Sierra is booted off the external drive. -High Sierra installer can finish install on external drive before saying it can't run. Closes on 75% progress for installing to internal drive; followed by a reboot and the folder with "?" Gray screen -Catalina installer does the same thing with the internal drive as high Sierra, but doesn't allow installing to external drive. "A firmware partition is missing" -internal drive never shows up as a bootable volume when I hold options key while powering on Any suggestions to help successfully run an OS off the internal drive would be greatly appreciated. Change Picture Metadata by Picture Name Posted: 05 Nov 2020 07:22 AM PST Hello everyone, i exported several pictures from a cloud storage which are named YYYY-MM-DD_xzy.jpeg, but Picture-metadata is always 'today', created as well as last changed. Does anyone know a solution like a script or program etc. to change the metadata to the correct date, based on the filename? Couldn't find anything on my Mac and thought before I change 900+ Pictures manually maybe you guys know something.... Thanks! [link] [comments]
MacOS Restarting, I can't find these cause codes Posted: 05 Nov 2020 07:12 AM PST My 2019 MacBook Pro has suddenly begun shutting itself down every night.
