MacOS very slow after big sur (2019 Macbook) Posted: 23 Nov 2020 08:00 AM PST Hi everyone I just updated to Big Sur and I am very disappointed in its performance. Windows are extremely slow when moving around, playing a youtube video with 3 other browser tabs open will make it choppy and overall the performance is horrible. I tried resetting the NVRAM and that makes my computer normal for the first 10 min then it slows down again significantly. Any ideas? [link] [comments]
MacBook Pro 2017 battery awful after Big Sur update Posted: 23 Nov 2020 03:28 PM PST Hi all, first time posting. Had my MacBook Pro late 2017 since it come out and battery's always been reasonably good as you expect from a MacBook. Especially as all I do is mainly music stream, safari and light word processing apps. Although since the update, I've had less than 2 hours out of safari YouTube streaming and even worse, only 1 hour and 10 mins on a zoom call when it used to go 3+ hours (which was already poor in my eyes). All of this while only having just over 500 full charge cycles and very light usage, with good battery health over 3 years. Any ideas on what I can do to either test or improve battery life? Contacted Apple support who told me to adjust my settings, which were already on energy savings modes and told me to reboot holding Cmd, Cntrl and shift. No better so far. Thanks for any responses in advance! [link] [comments]

Posted: 23 Nov 2020 02:23 PM PST I have a mid 2013 Macbook Air, and on High Sierra I was very surprised by the performance it was showing for Schoolwork + Zoom w/ 2 monitors... then I updated to Big Sur. Now I experience constant frame drops, crashes, audio stuttering, and constant maxed out CPU usage. Is there a way to go back? I don't have a backup since my disk is only 120gb (again, I only sue it for schoolwork). Otherwise, is this a common problem that can be solved? [link] [comments]

[SOLVED] Canon TS3100 series - Big Sur Posted: 23 Nov 2020 04:35 PM PST On Canon forums users can't print after upgrading to Big Sur. Well, I had the same problem, and just deleted the entry and redetected it, an it works perfectly. So maybe that will help users with other models. [link] [comments]

Posted: 23 Nov 2020 11:02 PM PST Hi Folks! I was wondering what are the security risks in 'allowing all apps to access this item' for a private key on the macOS. Say the certificate this private key is associated with is used for Wi-Fi/VPN access. Without this setting, the user is prompted to enter their credentials each time the private key is used - bad UX IMO. Of course, I could allowlist Wi-Fi/VPN so that these applications do not trigger password prompt when using the private key - but I could not figure out how to do this using the macOS profile. Using the macOS profile, I could either (1) allow *all* apps to access the private key, or, (2) require password before each access to the private key. If it is not possible to allowlist selected applications en-masse, what would the security risks be, with 'allowing all apps to access the private key'? Does it merely allow these apps to 'use' the private key, or it actually allows them to export the private key (which is undesirable) ? [link] [comments]

Have not been to send email using iCloud SMTP since Big Sur update Posted: 23 Nov 2020 03:41 PM PST This is driving me crazy, and I'm curious if anybody else is having this problem or has any possible solutions. When I try to send mail (receiving is fine) using my iCloud account within Mac Mail, it times out after a while and gives me the error: "Connections to the server 'p35-smtp.mail.me.com' on the default ports timed out." And it encourages me to pick a different outgoing mail server (my gmail account, etc.). On the list of options iCloud is listed as "Offline." I've tried running the Connection Doctor, but the iCloud SMTP is just "Connecting to server..." indefinitely. I AM able to send email from my iphone or when logging into iCloud mail online, so I presumably know it's my computer and not my ISP blocking a port or whatever. Any help would be AMAZING. I am truly at my wit's end hah. [link] [comments]
Screencast and then convert to mp4? Posted: 23 Nov 2020 07:13 PM PST I'm using Catalina for work and I am curious how I script it so that I can automatically kick off an mp4 encode, e.g. https://github.com/kaihendry/recordmydesktop2.0/blob/macos/htmlvideo after saving a screencast? Any tips how to do this? [link] [comments]

Big Sur laggy animations and problems with USB hub Posted: 23 Nov 2020 06:10 AM PST Since updating my MacBook Pro 16 (i9) to Big Sur (11.0.1), most of the animations of the system became laggy and stutter. Switching desktops, minimizing/maximizing windows, scrolling in Safari and Preview, opening PDFs with Quick Look etc. Is anyone else experiencing this? It used to be fine on Catalina. I also have a problem with my USB hub (by D-Link). I use it mainly to for an ethernet connection and it works at the beginning but after a while, the internet just disconnects. So I unplug it and when trying to plug it back in, my MacBook freezes and crashes. After it restarts, it is the same scenario again. Does anyone know how to fix those problems? Or do I have to wait for a bug fix update from Apple. Ps: I tried resetting the SMC and I would like to avoid a fresh install of macOS. [link] [comments]
Posted: 23 Nov 2020 05:20 PM PST Things to know:
Here are the tips I have found that I have tried to use to solve this.
I hypothesize that the reason why this error has continued is because my Mac is not compatible- and its version isn't compatible somehow. That is another barrier that I keep running into- that I need iOS 10.15 or higher in order to use the drivers to help download Windows. I downloaded VMWare Fusion and WinToUSB for my drivers. However, I have seen others attempt to download Windows on Mac use drivers, and not use them. So I am unsure of their necessity. **Another problem I have had is the many types of conversions that the drive can become. The options I have seen done (on Disk Utility) are:
And the scheme that follows these is usually GUID Partition Map. I know that ExFAT is compatible for both Windows and Mac so it would most likely be what I would convert my drive to, but I still would like some feedback. Please give me some tips through this process. I think there is one thing I am doing wrong and it is compromising the whole thing, but I cant figure out which step is going wrong. Recommendations for drivers, other downloadable content to help, or other links or tips would be highly appreciated. Edit: i am downloading Catalina Patcher in hopes that getting a more updated version of iOS will help things. [link] [comments]
Is it worth it for me to upgrade to Big Sur on a 2018 15" Macbook Pro? Posted: 23 Nov 2020 04:24 PM PST I remember upgrading to Mojave way back when on one of my older Macbook Pros, and the OS rendered it super slow. Since then, I've been very cautious about every OS-related update and now, with a huge 12GB update coming in, I"m wondering if it's currently worth it for me to upgrade my OS. The last thing I'd want is for my computer to become super laggy, especially since I use it for work. [link] [comments]
Is there a way to add files to iPad apps running in Big Sur? Posted: 23 Nov 2020 02:49 PM PST I can't seem to find way to import files into an iPad app like you can through iTunes, I tried to drag and drop, but that didn't work. [link] [comments]
Posted: 23 Nov 2020 10:40 AM PST I have a MacBook Pro 2020 (Four thunderbolt ports) and a Logitech Triathlon 720, running macOS Big Sur 11.0.1. I have had AWFUL issues as of late, which seem to be the opposite of everyone else I have seen. I have had some issues on and off with the mouse since I got it honestly, with my 2016 baseline MBP, way back with Mojave. When using bluetooth, the mouse is CONSTANTLY slightly jumpy. This, I have seen is a common issue, exclusive to macOS. The main solution that people say, is to use the USB Receiver instead. However, when I use the USB universal wireless receiver, it works noticably better smoothness and latency-wise, but every so often, probably every ten seconds or so, the mouse will lose connection and reconnect, and as a result, LAG HORRIBLY. It will jump across the screen and lose connection for probably 2 seconds or so. I can watch the lights on the mouse flash as it regains connection, and even see the connection status in LogiOptions go gray, and then light up again indicating a disconnection. This is only when using the wireless USB receiver. Windows is fine with the receiver, all the time. I have had no issues on Windows. Is this just a fundamental issue with macOS which means you should steer clear of Logitech mice for macOS? Is there a fix? If I were using windows, I would LOVE this mouse. [link] [comments] |
