r/digitalschool - A subreddit for everyone using iPads (or other mobile devices) for education / school!

Hey everyone! Me and u/wadzek11 have created a subreddit all about mobile devices, including, but not limited to, iPads and their accessories. We are focused on education, so school / university. It's a place to exchange useful apps for lessons, answer questions or just help each other with choosing a good device / proper accessories. If you are interested or already using an iPad for education, we would be happy to find you over there on r/digitalschool!

This advertisement was permitted to u/Wadzek11 via a response to a modmail.

Looking for an app that has a similar function as today view

    Posted: 03 Nov 2020 09:03 AM PST

I like to keep my iPad open on my desk so I can glance at today view as I'm working, but I find it frustrating that I can only have widgets on half the screen. Is there any such app that would do a similar function as today view (time, news, weather, calendar etc at a glance) that would be better?

4th Gen iPad Air glass display is overly flexible?

    Posted: 02 Nov 2020 11:52 PM PST

I just set up my 4th Gen iPad Air and have noticed that, when taking notes when using the Apple Pencil, the screen is overly flexible in that it's painfully obvious how the pressure of the pen makes the screen flex downwards. Has anyone else noticed this?

Is there a way to download files from a SSH server?

    Posted: 03 Nov 2020 11:58 AM PST

iPad will become so much pleasant to use if I can download files from a SSH server and save them directly into one of my iCloud Drive folders, such as the Downloads folder.

iMovie deleted almost 2 hours of work

    Posted: 03 Nov 2020 01:42 AM PST

I was editing some video on my iPad for about two hours. I hit rendered, and it said there was an error. I thought fine, so I closed the app and started it up again. The old "turn it off and back on again." As I open my project, I realize that 2 hours of work was gone. I'm using the iPad Pro 10.5-inch with iOS 14.1. Is my work gone for good?

I hope you guys know what I mean and can help me out.

    Cheers

How to Picture Frame and other nice displays

    Posted: 03 Nov 2020 07:32 AM PST

Acquired an older iPad mini (2016-ish) and I want to use it as a digital picture frame and other nice displays that can run in the background.

I've tried a few apps that can run slideshows, but most of them are trash. They crash a lot, or they don't use shuffle features, or they don't interact with cloud drive — stuff like that.

What I'm looking for is a straight forward slide show app, that can be linked with a cloud folder (preferably iCloud Photos) that doesn't crash and burn after an hour. Also— needs shuffle!! I don't want to see a slideshow in chronological order for cringe reasons.

Would also love some suggestions on other apps that would be nice to run in background. For example, I found an app that runs 90s screensavers all day and that is kind of nice to run while iPad sits on shelf.

One last thing- regarding photos, I am really trying to avoid anything that forces me to share my photos with a data collection process such as Google Photos. I'm not a privacy junkie - but I do want to avoid sharing personal images with the likes of Google or Facebook. Sorry if that is an inconsistent position to take for some of you.

Thanks in advance (PS - I checked the search bar and googled the hell out of this before I came here)

Looking for device to remote control iPad Air 4

    Posted: 03 Nov 2020 08:42 AM PST

Here is my need and I'm wondering if a solution exists. I use my iPad a lot for reading, especially in bed. Is there a remote control or other device that is Bluetooth that I could hold in my hand that would allow me to turn pages in the kindle app, to scroll webpages while reading articles Or control video apps? I tend to be a fast reader and ive been getting some wrist and hand pain from holding the iPad and continually finger Scrolling. It would be less straining to be able to prop my ipad on a lap holder and scroll without touching the screen.

    Thanks!

    Skin for magic keyboard keys?

    Posted: 03 Nov 2020 08:40 AM PST

I just received my magic keyboard today, another week for the actual iPad. I noticed that fingerprints show easily on the outside. Would you recommend getting a skin for the outside and keys? Or just outside?

Brand new iPad Pro connectivity issues? Purchased on Barclays finance incase relevant.

    Posted: 03 Nov 2020 02:18 PM PST

I own the iPad now but I purchased it with Barclays finance. And since I purchased it the work just refuses to provide a connection. I have to connections "Coredy CX-E120_2.4G_EXT" which is a WiFi extender we purchased when my mum downgraded to cheaper broadband with plusnet (PLUSNET-R2SK) which is our main WiFi service. However using the coredy internet network it works on every single device I own or my mother owns in the house and my bedroom where I usually am. I tried everything

•Renew lease •forget all networks •turn off router/turn back on (1000 times) • turn on/off iPad multiple times •attempted to reconfigure dns/ip addresses ie 8.8.8.8 etc The last thing I tried was erase all content and settings. Now it's rendered itself unusable as it says the iPad cannot be activated as a server cannot be found. I swear to god I paid 900 quid for this thing and it's driving me coo coo. I am literally using my iPad for travelling but now I'm using it to replace my laptop until a new charger comes...🤯🤬🤒

Does anyone know of a way for me to control my iPad from my windows PC?

    Posted: 03 Nov 2020 01:59 PM PST

My main computer is a Windows 10 desktop. I have my iPad sitting under my monitor so that I can glance down and see what is going on there and I would love to be able to move my mouse off of my Windows 10 screen and have it start controlling the iPad (almost as if it is another monitor, but I am controlling iOS itself). Something like this: https://symless.com/synergy but that works between Windows 10 and an iPad. I would want my keyboard to start working in iOS too as soon as my mouse entered the iPad screen.

Does anything like this exist? Ultimately, I want to be able to iMessage from my Windows 10 computer, but that doesn't seem like it's possible, so I am trying to find other ways to make it work.

    Thanks!

    Durability of future Ipads

    Posted: 03 Nov 2020 01:29 PM PST

I hope future iPads get that ceramic shielding or whatever it is that made the new iPhones super durable. I don't plan on upgrading for years so hopefully by the time I do I don't have to live in fear of easy bends lol.

    iPad Pro Battery

    Posted: 03 Nov 2020 12:23 PM PST

Is it true that you can improve your battery by using the iPad while it's charging? I read about it somewhere on this page but didn't really know if that's true. If it's true, how is using your iPad while charging a good thing?

I've heard that using devices while charging them is bad and does more harm than good in the long run

    Posted: 02 Nov 2020 11:16 PM PST

I'm trying to be more organized, and so I'm wondering if any of you guys use devices for different things... I just got a iPad Pro...and I already own a iPhone. Gaming on it is pretty awesome so I'm thinking maybe just using it for entertainment purposes, so wondering if any of you guys do this...
