    iPad Pro Ram Management

    Posted: 24 Nov 2020 02:24 PM PST

    I use a 2018 iPad Pro 11 256gb.

Does anyone have issues with YouTube (The web desktop version) pausing & then downgrading your video quality when you are inside a different Safari tab?

I use YouTube in Safari, so when I open a new tab, like google for search, youtube pauses and downgrades to usually 360p. It's so weird, is this a RAM issue? It's mind boggling that this simple action could be potentially maxing out my RAM.

    Does anyone notice this?

A short comparison of AR People Occlusion feature with and without LIDAR sensor

Anyone else as severely irritated by the huge cut outs for the tiny, tiny little camera lenses in Air 4 screen protectors? I hope to find one that just completely goes over the screen as a solid rectangle, but have yet to come across any so far.

iPad wallpaper not changing to night

    Posted: 24 Nov 2020 02:51 PM PST

I've set two of the new wallpapers, one for the Home Screen one for the Lock Screen, both which are supposed to go from day to night. Neither have changed to night. The one on my iMac has, and it's nearly 11pm and has been dark for hours here.

Have I missed something in the settings? Or is it a bug?

iPad Air (2020) - echo on Facetime / Skype calls

    Posted: 24 Nov 2020 03:04 AM PST

My mother just received a new iPad Air (2020 edition), however there seems to be an annoying echo on Facetime calls (I can basically hear myself finish the sentence each time when I stop talking). Skype app presents the same problem. Tried to compare with a 7 year old iPad from 2013 and Facetime sound quality seems better on the old one (no audible echo). Tried to reset everything, did not solve the issue.

Also apparently the speakers on the 2020 iPad Air seem to sound slightly "tinny" in comparison.

Has anyone else had this issue? Quite disappointed if it is indeed a faulty unit, given Apple's reputation for build quality.

Guesses on the length of iPad 5th Gen (entry level 2017 model) support.

    Posted: 24 Nov 2020 08:59 AM PST

So I am seeing rumors that iOS 15 may drop support for the iPhone 6s and the original iPhone SE. Since those are both A9 based phones that started me wondering about the 2017 5th Gen entry level iPad. Time wise it seems a little early but I think it is possible. The only thing making me second guess that is the fact when iOS 13 dropped support A8 class of SOCs on the phones but the iPad Air 2 had hung around for not just one more but TWO more releases. (I am guessing that extra core in the A8X and 2GB of memory is what saved it from the iOS 13 and now iOS 14 chopping block) But from what I remember the A9 is not THAT much faster than the A8X and has the same 2GB of RAM. The other thing that is speaking in its favor is that the 2017 iPad was part of a big edu push and I remember hearing news of edu adopting this model as an iPad 2 replacement. So that may give it another year of staying power over the iPad Air 2.

The reason why I am wondering is that I have been doing "iPad hand me downs" for my other family members. My Stepdad has the 2017 iPad and my mother has the iPad Air 2 (which replaced an iPad 2) So when the "lowest end" model reaches EOL on the family I get myself a new iPad and pass down the next one. Right now I am personally sporting the 2018 6th Gen entry level iPad and expect to pass it down when the iPad Air 2 reaches EOL as far as iOS updates. But my analysis of the possibility that both the iPad Air 2 and the 2017 iPad may both be dropped at the same time has made me wonder if I should be ready to replace 2 iPads for my family members at the same time.

So what do you all think, do you think that the 2017 6th Gen iPad will outlast the iPad Air 2 by one year?

Pages for iPad: Is there a list of special codes like \n?

    Posted: 24 Nov 2020 12:31 PM PST

Is there a list of codes (or whatever they're called) like /n? I vaguely recall seeing one ages ago but I can't find it now?

Also, is there a way to do a find/replace where it changes things to and from italics or bold, like I can do on Word?

IPadOS 14.2 loses keyboard delete of emails

    Posted: 23 Nov 2020 11:06 PM PST

In the iPadOS 14.2 Mail app, pressing the Delete key no longer deletes the message. This is inconsistent with MacOS that always works this way. It's often touted that the same app has similar functionality of the same app across OS's, and this is simply untrue. On MacOS you can define rules that prevent spam. On iPadOS, you can't, and are therefore inundated with spam.

The Delete key under iPadOS 14.1 used to work under certain (but not as expected) sequences. But at least you could figure out how. In iPadOS 13, Delete key always worked. IPadOS 14.2 it just does not work.

On MacOS, SHIFT-CMD-J moves an email to Junk and then displays the next email. On iPadOS 14.2, it Junks the email and then inexplicably moves down two emails, except occasionally when it moves up one email. In any case, it is no longer possible to go through my emails using the keyboard on iPadOS, which I can easily and consistently do on MacOS. The regular claims of consistent interface and functionality between the same apps on MacOS, iPadOS, and iOS are bogus. One could fill a blog with the inconsistencies.

My MacBook Pro has been waiting to be repaired by Apple in Houston for 10 days now, and there is no status update. How I miss my real computer, where among the hundreds of other things you can't do on iPad, I can copy and paste from most anything to most anything. And pressing the Delete key, amazing, deletes things.

iPad Pro 11” 2020, Pencil jitter? I can’t draw any slow lines without it being jittery. To be fair, I have a glass screen protector on it, but I haven’t seen this behaviour on my old iPad. Is this normal jitter, or more than usual?

    iPad air liquid damage

    Posted: 23 Nov 2020 04:30 PM PST

I had my ipad air 3rd generation in my backpack when a bottle of non alcoholic beer broke in there. The iPad got pretty wet and some of the liquid most likely went inside through charging port and speakers. The screen was flickering heavily until I managed to turn it off. The iPad is drying in rice since then and I didn't dare to try turning it on yet, I was planning to wait two more days. Does anyone have some experience and tips or advice what else I could/should do? Thank you already!

    New to iPad

    Posted: 23 Nov 2020 06:49 PM PST

Hello, I just picked up an iPad 2019 because of what I think was a good deal $199 new in box. I'm new to the whole i ecosystem recently switching from android phone and tablet to the iPhone 11 and now the iPad. Are there any apps that are especially useful or exclusive to the iPad that I should check out?
