- Apples new Unified Memory is a huge improvement that unless you edit very high end stuff, the 8GB model is perfectly fine. This should answer a lot of questions people have about getting which device.

I currently use Final Cut for editing videos (youtube videos, for school projects, etc.) and Lightroom (for editing photos). I've been wanting to learn Photoshop and Illustrator, and I'm not sure if the RAM or SSD is enough. For videos, I don't really plan to do some 4k editing, maybe just 1080p with 30-60 fps. For photos, I plan to do some everyday photography, as well as use Photoshop and Illustrator for making posters, pubmats (for school and educations), as well as graphic design since I want to start freelancing to make money. | MACBOOK PRO 2015 AND MAGSAFE 60W Posted: 23 Nov 2020 09:04 PM PST So, a friend of mine let me borrow her macbook pro for academic purposes until I finish college. Everything is great! Working smoothly and all except when I am charging the thing!!! When I charge the laptop (while off), the magsafe will heat up to the point it hurts my fingers a bit, but it will only last for 20-30 minutes or so, and then it will settle down to a warming feeling only. My question is, is this normal?? Also after researching a bit, it is recommended to clean both the charging port and charger itself, so I have done that, scraped off black dusty stuffs on the port and lightly pushed the spring mechanism on the charger itself to make the dust fall off and stuff. I am deciding between getting a cheaper, but non-ARM system in the i5 Macbook Pro, or getting the M1 Macbook Pro. | I sold my 2019 16” MBP for a 2020 M1 MBA... Posted: 23 Nov 2020 07:31 PM PST Some context: I used to do graphic design/video work, so last year when the announced the new 16" MBP, I ordered a custom MBP with 1tb SSD, 32GB, 8GB 550 graphics ...it was a beast, the best laptop I've ever owned. Beautiful display, battery life was fine...but then I took a new job and didn't need all that beefiness. So as I usually do, I sold it locally on Facebook marketplace, for $400 less than what I spent on it. I flipped that and got a spec'd up M1 MBA with 1TB drive and 16GB memory. I no longer have the need for the beefcake Pro, which there are things I miss - but damn this is what makes me proud of Apple, the innovation, the walled gates of Apple are mocked but damnit if this thing doesn't scream. The little 1080p video that I've worked so far in FCPX just flows. No problems. I miss that big beautiful display though...I like big screens and I cannot lie. The MBA battery is ridiculous, I've been using it steady since I picked it up at the Apple Store on Saturday night...still at around 70%. I've had so many "What? ...but how?" Moments. I can't wait to see what they do with the next Gen and future silicon chips. Exciting stuff here. Making Steve Jobs proud. [link] [comments]  | ||

I bought the Mac in late August this year (around 3 months ago). The battery only lasts me 4 hours during simply web surfing/homework/video watching, etc. , 5 hours MAX and its driving me INSANE. Is this normal? I feel like it should be somewhere around 98-97% capacity not all the way down to 90 in this short amount of time. [link] [comments]  | ||

I'm looking to purchase a Bluetooth keyboard and I found a windows one I really like. I'm used to control C, control V, etc since I'm a lifelong windows user. I know that on a Mac it's command C or command V. Will I be able to use these shortcuts on a windows keyboard? What sort of options do I have with external monitors on the M1 Mackbook pro, or others if needed? Right now I use a Thinkpad T480 and have a display link to run 2 external monitors, and then I use the HDMI out for a 3rd. This way, my setup is 3 external monitors and the laptop, for a total of 4.
