2015 MacBook Air - Dual Display Set up Posted: 02 Nov 2020 06:51 PM PST Hi, Does anyone have their 2015 or older MacBook Air set up with two external monitors? Is the USB to HDMI method good for resolution and is there some sort of doc that definitely supports this. My only worry is I buy something and all it does is mirror the two displays. Thank you if you took the time to reply!! [link] [comments]
I'm unhappy with my 2020 MacBook Air I bought recently. Any advice? Posted: 02 Nov 2020 10:21 AM PST I bought a 2020 MacBook Air with the Apple education discount in Canada a few weeks ago (my mom is an educator). I'm in grade 12 and I was tired of using my school issued Chromebook. I wanted a computer that could handle some programming, web development, schoolwork, and general web browsing. The plan was that it would get me through at last first year university. I upgraded to the i5 model and thought that would be enough to handle my needs. It has, but not without some issues. I knew that the 2020 MacBook Air had thermal issues but I thought they were overblown. I wasn't going to be editing photos or videos or doing anything too intensive, so I thought I would be fine. It has been able to handle schoolwork well, but when I go on Google Meet for class the computer gets very hot and the fan gets annoyingly loud. Compared to my MacBook, my 3 year old Chromebook is silent. The main prospect with this new computer was to have a machine to code on. Well, I open up Atom (my code editor of choice) for the first time and the fan gets loud also. If it acts like this, I'm worried how it will act next year at University. Not all is bad though. I like the screen, keyboard, and battery life, and it has been able to handle schoolwork and web browsing well (can be slow at times). I looked at Apple's return policy and I think I should be able to return it. Should I keep the MacBook and deal with the thermal issues, or try to return it and:
I should have done more research but I wanted to take advantage of the education discount before it ended. Anyways, do you guys have any advice? [link] [comments]
Buying a late 2011 MacBook Pro(17 inch) Posted: 02 Nov 2020 01:34 PM PST Hi, I am contemplating on buying a late 2011 MacBook Pro(17 inch model). Is this a dumb idea? I am looking for a 17 inch laptop to mainly browse the internet and watch videos/movies. I've never had a MacBook and I am curious about the OS. Also, I like the build/design of MacBooks. My main question to you guys, does the late 2011 model have the AMD issue fixed? I know the early 2011 model has the issue.. My concerns: Please be blunt if you think it's a stupid idea to buy a 9 year old laptop, I am doubting the decision as well. I really want a 17 inch laptop and I'm not willing to pay a lot, so a recent 16 inch is not an option. Thanks for your advice! PS: I can replace CPU fans and replace HDDs/SSDs. Fixing that graphics card is not something I can/am willing to do. [link] [comments]
Please Help ! The sound coming out of my Mac suddenly became muffled and very low Posted: 02 Nov 2020 03:19 PM PST Hello guys ! I really need your help. Earlier today, I was using discord through google chrome to play among us with some friends. Suddenly, I noticed that the sound coming out of the mac internal speaker became very low and muffled. The sound is like the sound coming out of earphone when you connect your earphone to your mac, leave the earphone on the desk, and put the volume to the max . I have tried to unsuccessfully fix this issue by -Restarting my laptop -Restarting NVRAM / PRAM -Log in with other account -Messing up with the sound settings -Plugging and unplugging earphone (it sounds totally fine with earphone) I tend to believe the issue is software rather than hardware because :
I really need your help guys :") Thank you soo much ! [link] [comments]
how do i partition/setup ssd for Windows, Time Machine and extra files? Posted: 02 Nov 2020 07:00 PM PST I purchased a Samsung T7 1TB SSD to use on a 2020 MBP i3 w/ 250GB SSD. I will be using the 9to5mac tutorial to install windows (and use about 500 GB) externally on the ssd. I also want to use it to use time machine to backup my MacBook. How should I go about doing this? create a partition on the SSD with disk utility? How about for extra files that don't fit on my Mac, would I do another partition for that? [link] [comments]
Help me to select the proper mac Posted: 02 Nov 2020 03:08 PM PST I need a new notebook, because of i am missing my 2012 macbook pro, i decided to buy the new macbook pro 2020. But i have no idea which version (variant) i have to choose. I am thinking about: 16gb ram, 512gb ssd (i am ok even with 256gb, i have like 3 external 1tb ssd) but my biggest problem is i do not know which processor will be ok for me, i5 1.4ghz or i7 2.3ghz. The price difference is not so ultra big for me, but usualy i am saving money for more important things... I will use that macbook mostly for software as Axure / Sketch / Adobe XD / Affinity Designer & Photo / Blender / Autodesk Fusion. Really exceptionally for programming in Python or / and Android. Because of my last computer i have bought it was 6years ago (i7, 4.1ghz i guess) is slow enough even with that processor, i cant imagine how something with more than twice less frequency power will work (i have no idea about the differences between its chip generations). I7 will produce more heat and more battery consumption in compare with i5, but i do not know if the power increase will be recognizable for me and my use (if rendering on i5 takes 5% more time, i will be definitely ok with i5). I wont play any games probably (maybe fortnite sometime, but i guess it wont run on macbook or maybe dota2, but i am not "player" anymore so...) Thank you very much. I am really sorry for my bad english. [link] [comments]
Transferring files to a home media center? Posted: 02 Nov 2020 06:21 PM PST I'm considering purchasing an Apple TV, wanted some advice first — My mom does a lot of streaming and/or torrenting of shows and movies on her Macbook. She's in her seventies and terminally ill, so she stays upstairs in her room most of the time when not in hospital. Occasionally she feels well enough to come downstairs to the living room TV to watch something she picked with the family. She doesn't like wrestling with HDMI cable etc. Is there any way for her to upload movie files from her laptop to an Apple TV over WiFi? If not, are there any other devices we could hook up to the downstairs TV that would allow this? (We already have a Roku stick for general streaming. She specifically wants to watch torrented media she has in her Macbook hard drive on the downstairs TV, without using a physical HDMI connection.) Thanks in advance 🙏 [link] [comments]
Need Help. No sound during screen share. (Any application) Posted: 02 Nov 2020 06:47 AM PST My friend (MBPro) and I (MBAir) are using our device to screen share. But we're not able to hear anything whatever is playing on screen. Just visuals, no sound. We tried different applications like, zoom, iMessage, discord, Skype. But nothing is working. We both tried to share. But, weirdly this problem seem to appear only when we're sharing to each other. We both attend online classes (different classes) and it works perfectly, we can hear everything. What could possibly be the problem? My friend uses - Macbook Pro 2018 I use Macbook Air 2017 Both on MacOs Big Sur beta [link] [comments]
Contacts stopped syncing in Messages Posted: 02 Nov 2020 05:59 PM PST I can see most of my contacts names/images but not the ones added about a year or so ago... any idea why? I've tried logging out and back in with no luck [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 Nov 2020 05:24 PM PST Personally, I hope they release a 13 inch Macbook Pro Silicon in the November 10th event with at least an A14x processor or the equivalent. I don't mind the touch bar, but I really do hope they make the bezels smaller. As for the fans, I would like dual fans that can keep the system cool (I don't wanna fry my computer if I am doing something intensive). Hopefully they can lower the price by maybe 100 dollars or include 16 gigs of ram in the base model. Maybe they will even add it to the educational discount program. I know some of you are hoping for an iMac, and I want to hear what you guys are expecting in the next Apple event. :) [link] [comments]
2017 13 inch MacBook Pro I want to connect it to 2 monitors Posted: 02 Nov 2020 09:54 AM PST I currently have one monitor and I use it for work at home connected with a USB-C to HDMI adapter. I plan on getting another monitor for my PS5. So my desk will be my work and gaming station. However currently I have poor cable management with chargers and other things. Is there an easy way to connect my MacBook to both monitors. I have searched docking stations and what not but I am looking for the cheapest option. If not I will just continue to use 1 monitor for work and the other for my ps5 [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 Nov 2020 01:16 PM PST I have a Macbook air from 2015 and the USB ports have stopped working. I can't seem to find any adapters anywhere (either thunderbolt 2 to usb or to usb-c). Even on the apple website there's only thunderbolt 3 to thunderbolt 2. Does anyone have any advise or know where I can get an adapter? Thank you ahead of time. [link] [comments]
Question about 2019 Macbook cooling Posted: 02 Nov 2020 12:38 PM PST I'm seeing that it's better to leave your Macbook charging if you're able to instead of letting it run off battery and adding more charge cycles. My issue is my Macbook is always running the fan at 100% all the time and the Macbook is hot when it charges. Is this normal? Is there a way to make the Macbook cooler while it charges? Also, it's sitting on a desk, not in bed on a blanket or anything like that. [link] [comments]
I’m selling my old MacBook Air that has a broken logic board, can the buyer access my data? Posted: 02 Nov 2020 08:01 AM PST Hi all, I have an old 2015 MacBook Air with a broken logic board that I am selling for the parts. Because the logic board died suddenly I didn't backup or cleaned the device. Would the new owner be able to access things like my photos and documents without the password? [link] [comments]

Posted: 02 Nov 2020 12:11 AM PST Hey guys any help is very appreciated. My MacBook Pro 2019 suddenly wouldn't turn on after no previous issues. Tried all the general troubleshooting (SMC, holding the power button etc) nothing has worked. It chimes when I plug charger in and it can still charge my phone, plus camera light is on, but I just can't seem to get it on. Any help would be great as I'm in the middle of exams and I really need it. Thanks [link] [comments] |
