    How to delete a Read-only file system on Mac OS Catalina

    I am trying to delete /System/Library/Extensions/AppleThunderboltDPAdapters.kext.

    I disabled csrutil in the Recovery mode. and tried "rm -Rf", which gave me "Permission denied".

    I then tried [sudo] rm -rf, which gave me "no matches found: [sudo]".

    I have to point out that I am quite the beginner in using Terminal

    New Mojave Supplemental Update! It includes a new version of Safari 14 that fixes previous issues caused by the 2020-005 and Safari updates.

    Can't search external drives after updating to Catalina?

    I've never had this issue before, also not 100% sure it was caused by Catalina.. Searching my drives on a new finder window gives me zero results. I've read I had to "re-index" my drives by adding them and removing them from Spotlight > Privacy tab.. but that isn't working for me either, getting "Privacy List Error: The item couldn't be added or removed because of an unknown error." Please someone help me with this? Thanks in advance.

    Mxm gpu support under macOS

    This may seem strange, but I can't find any list of supported mxm gpus under recents version of macOS (Mojave and up)

    I know recent iMacs don't have mxm gpus, but Since you can patch iMacs from 2010/2011 (so with mxm gpus) to Catalina, it means that there's some "support" for mxm gpus even under Catalina.

    I've read some articles that the mxm version of rx460 and rx480 are supported under the latest version of macOS (since the pcie version of those card is supported too)

    That gives me hope that maybe all normal pcie gpus supported in macOS are also supported under their mxm variants.

    And that could mean that, excluded the power consumption limits, I could buy a Vega 64 mxm, put it in a Mac and boot it right into macOS no problem....Right?

    Edit: I don't want to use this mxm gpu for video output, I just want to use it as a compute unit.

    Dual Boot: New Volume or Partition?

    I want to have two different OS' on my SSD: my main one for personal stuff where I can keep my music and do my banking. And another one for learning coding where I can tinker and download things from the net without having to worry about getting a virus.

    I began going over tutorials but I came across two different methods: new volume and new partition.

    I noticed that Apple recommends not partitioning:

    If I only create a new volume, will that keep my personal volume safe and free from malware if I get infected on the coding volume?

    Quick delete for text messages?

    Running the beta of Sur and trying to figure out if there is a workaround for deleting messages easily instead of the 2 tier deleting system on messages. Anyone have any ideas?

    Trying to use iMac as monitor for my MacBook

    Did someone try to access my MacBook remotely?

    Before I suspected anything, I was just browsing a regular news website on my laptop. All of a sudden, my screen when black for 2 seconds and then the log in screen came up. It reminded me of how someone takes control remotely, except this isn't my work laptop and I don't allow remote access on my Mac.

    However, instead of just showing the icon for my login name only, it also displayed a Guest login next to it. I have always had the Guest login disabled on my Mac. So this freaked me out along with the black screen, because it was out of the ordinary. I disconnected my WiFi, restarted the MacBook, and the Guest login option disappeared.

    Did someone try to access my laptop remotely? What should I look for in the Activity Log to be able to tell if someone did?

    Process renicer GUI that works with 10.15 / isn't abandonware?

    For a long time I've used the excellent "atMonitor" which not only has a process renicer but also as I recall did process trees and pattern matching so you could tell it to always renice processes matching certain regexps/strings. However it unfortunately is abandonware and doesn't work under 10.15.

    I've done a somewhat extensive web search but so far have only been able to find other projects that were abandoned long ago. Does anyone know of something I'm missing?

    Need help with HDMI to TV (Mac mini 2018)

    Hello everyone, I just got my first Mac Mini (2018) today but after turning it on and plugging the HDMI cable in my TV nothing happened. I tried all different combinations of turning it off then plugging/unplugging the HDMI cable out and turning the TV back. But no signal. Not even a startup screen, I have no way to change any settings or preferences having to interface to work with. Any solutions ?

    Unknown Mobile Devices Auto-join BlueTooth

    Started experiencing this really odd and slightly concerning behavior over the last week. A completely unknown Android device (Galaxy, Pixel, etc) will appear in my Bluetooth device menu and show as bold (connected) without me ever adding or authorizing it. Happened twice and I was worried so I quickly disconnected. After the second time, I reset the BT module. Noticed it a third time today and grabbed a screenshot, but this time the device went from bold to unbold and then disconnected itself. I'm in an Apple household and don't own any Android devices. I've only noticed it happening with these conditions:

    - Connected to secure wifi on my home network
    - Connected to Bluetooth with AirPods, Magic Keyboard + Mouse only
    - Using Chrome (latest version)
    - In a Google Meet video chat > my audio will get scrambled for a sec, and then the device appears in my BT menu. Audio stays scrambled until the device is removed.

    Running Catalina 10.15.7 on a 2016 MBP, but this happened for the first time before the .7 update earlier this week as well. Hard to troubleshoot because it's so random, but I'm mostly curious if anyone else has seen something similar to this.

    Touch ID not working at startup

    So I just recently installed the latest version of mac os catlina 10.5.7 on my 2019 macbook pro 16 inch and everytime I shutdown and then turn it back on it says that it restarted and that i have to re-enter my password for touch id to work. Not sure why this happens but was wondering if anyone could point me in a direction fix this.

    Can I fix this Raid?

    *first off - this is NOT sensitive data, this is a backup of my data that I was messing with RAID because I had a lot of disks and nothing to do with them*

    So I have a MacOS raid thats a bit complex.

    I have a 1 and 2 and 3 Tb drives, JBOD into a 6tb pool. that is mirrored to a pair of 3tb drives also in JBOD, so I have a single 6tb pool with redundancy.

    yesterday I heard a clicking noise when one of the disks fired up, Clunk, clunk, clunk, whirl.

    I ejected the pool, and shut down the enclosure, and pulled the drive, which happened to be the 1tb. I happen to have a spare 1tb drive so I put that back in.

    but I think due to the multi levels of JBOD and Raid 1, my Disk util doesn't want to replace it.

    So if I try to repair the Pool, it gives me an option to add a disk, ok, do that, starts, and fails saying its not large enough to repair the raid. but the smaller 'jbod' dont give me the option to repair and if I try to add a disk it it says "invalid request (-69886)

    I guess I can delete the small JBOD, and rebuild that, and try to use that to repair the Raid0. is that the best option?

    Downgrading from Big Sur to Catalina spinning globe issue

    Hello, i recently updated my macbook air 2018 to Big Sur but today I decided to downgrade it back to Catalina. After watching some Youtube videos and reading some articles I successfully created the bootable disk drive (I downloaded Catalina from the app store and then did the rest from the terminal). After that I went erased my Macintosh - Data from the disk utilities and continued to choose install Catalina.

    So, the process starts with a spinning globe, asking me for my wifi password and proceeds to install. The problem is that when the bar fully loads a warning sign appears on top of the globe and it says: "apple.com/support. -1008F".

    I googled the issue but neither cmd+R, option+cmd+R nor Shift+opt+cmd+R work, since despite what i press and hold it automatically loads the same screen: the spinning globe asking for wifi password. The only thing I can do, is hold Options on the start up, but the pnly option given to me is to install Catalina and I can no longer see "macintosh" option anywhere. And again, after selecting install Catalina, the same process goes on until it loads only to show the same error.

    Can anyone help me?
