Black spots on Apple Pencil: I am using an Apple Pencil with my iPad Pro. Bought the pencil 3 months ago. The pencil is magnetically placed on the iPad and there are prominent black spots on the surface of the pencil. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

The Magic Keyboard + Trackpad is slowly killing my iPad battery capacity

    Posted: 02 Sep 2020 12:53 PM PDT

I've always been obsessed with checking the battery health of my devices ( I use the app Coconut Battery on Mac and I control the battery capacity of all my devices). Sad to say that for almost 1.5 year my iPad pro 12.9 battery capacity went from 100 to 91 and since when I use the Magic Keyboard + Trackpad dropped to 80% in just few months. I use my iPad in the same way I always did and I can't explain this sudden drop except blaming the keyboard. Have you guys experienced anything like this? I know it makes the battery drop faster to some users (especially if using the backlight) but I didn't expect it to literally ruin it.

    Magic Keyboard or Keyboard Folio?

    Posted: 02 Sep 2020 02:41 PM PDT

    Hi all,

I'm a final year law student and want to buy an iPad Pro as I think it will help me and also make my studies more fun with everything in one place, the note taking features etc....

I think I'm going to go for the 12.9 inch iPad instead of the 11 inch but I can't decide between the new magic keyboard or the old style keyboard folio. As I want to write flat on a desk with the iPad I guess the keyboard folio will be better suited as it can bend over backwards, but I've also read the keyboard folio is poorer quality and the typing experience isn't very good....

I'm debating if I should get the magic keyboard and when I'm in uni lectures just take the iPad and the pencil and leave the magic keyboard at home as I don't want to damage the iPad by keep taking it off to write on and then putting it back to type...

iPad screen protector (glass) for drawing

    Posted: 02 Sep 2020 02:24 PM PDT

    Hey there!
I wanted to ask if someone knows a good iPad glass protector, because atm I'm using the Paperlike one but I want a glass one because Paperlike is pretty dull and I dont enjoy watching series/movies on the iPad as much as I enjoyed when I had no protector at all.
The thing is I enjoy the texture of the Paperlike because I draw a lot, but the pencil nip does get "damaged" by the protector...
Does anyone know a good protector that's both good for drawing + enjoying the screen to watch some movies & stuff?
    Thanks in advance!

Tested: USB-C Hub with USB-C Data Port

    Posted: 02 Sep 2020 02:15 PM PDT

There have been previous posts from people looking for USB-C hubs that have both USB-C power and USB-C data ports. I just got this 7-in-1 hub from Anker -

    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07ZVKTP53

Anker USB C Hub, PowerExpand+ 7-in-1 USB C Hub Adapter, with 4K HDMI, 100W Power Delivery, USB-C and 2 USB-A 5Gbps Data Ports, microSD and SD Card Reader, for MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, XPS, and More

I tested it with my 2018 12.9 Pro on iPadOS 13.7. I simultaneously attached a 500GB Samsung T5 SSD via USB-C, a 4TB Western Digital My Passport via USB3, and inserted a 256GB SanDisk SD card. All are formatted exFAT. I connected to an LG 4K monitor via HDMI. All devices were visible and usable in both Files and FileBrowser. Pass-through power from a RAVPower 45W USB-C charger also worked. I did try a USB-C to DisplayPort cable with the monitor but video is not supported (HDMI was fine). Looks like a winner. $36 on Amazon. A pricier version with Ethernet is also available.

Do tempered glass screen protectors cause Apple Pencil wobble?

    Posted: 02 Sep 2020 09:22 AM PDT

I have an Ipad that's coming and I want to get a screen protector for it, just in case the Apple Pencil scratches the screen. (I will be using it frequently.) I don't think I'll have a problem drawing on glass, I prefer having clarity over a matte surface to draw on but I've heard that tempered glass screen protectors cause the Apple Pencil to have some wobble to it due to it being separated slightly from the actual screen. Is this true? Are there specific brands that negate this issue? I'm really not interested in getting a matte screen protector, so I'm hoping there are.

    New Magic Keyboard

    Posted: 02 Sep 2020 04:07 AM PDT

Old news for many, but I just bought one for my 12.9 iPad at BB for $150 off ($50 sale and $100 in accumulated points). Wow! I'm impressed with the trackpad support and overall keyboard quality. It really does make the iPad a potential laptop replacement for some. The navigation gestures are classic Apple quality. I've been reluctant to purchase because of the price but couldn't resist when BB cut the price (special offer for BB members). I anticipate the capabilities will get better as IOS evolves.

Only using an iPhone and iPad Pro for school, need help with trying to find a flow when listening to live lectures

    Posted: 02 Sep 2020 07:56 AM PDT

My school uses D2L/brightspace, they have an app but I find using Safari to access the site is much better. I don't have a laptop, just my ipad and phone. I was wondering how I could go about live lectures, some subjects require students to use the camera but I'm not sure if I'm able to use my ipad pro for live lectures and at the same time write down notes? Because I was told that's not possible to do with the zoom app and split view. I was thinking what if I use my iphone as a webcam and plug it to an external monitor? That way I can easily see both the presentation on a bigger screen and have the ipad solely for note taking. i have like an old flat screen tv that we dont use anymore. Will that work? any suggestions? Pls

Is iPad less addictive than an iPhone?

    Posted: 02 Sep 2020 01:44 AM PDT

Considering the big screen of an iPad, is it true that it is tedious to use social media apps like Instagram etc when these apps seems to be highly addictive on an iPhone due to its small screen factor.

    How Affinity on the iPad?

    Posted: 02 Sep 2020 12:31 AM PDT

Hi all, I'm new to digital art. I got procreate and lumafusion already and I'm planning on getting Affinity. I just don't know which one-- photo or designer.

I will use it on making mockups of products mostly. Any feedback? I also noticed that designer has a higher rating in the app store.

P.S Gonna be using it on my Mini 5 (i prefer the form factor and a little tight on the budget) Is it useable? thanks

Is the iPad Pro 2020 really a laptop replacement?

    Posted: 02 Sep 2020 06:27 AM PDT

TL;DR: I guess the only thing that, to my mind, really separates an iPad Pro from a Macbook these days is that when I hook up an external HD to my Macbook, I can drag and drop things to my desktop and manipulate them in lots of ways, open them in various programs, and store them locally on my internal HD, etc. Is this possible in the new iPad Pro, or are there still limitations (format of the files, file size, etc.)?

Hi all, I hope this post is allowed here -- I'm not seeking buying advice; just more hypothetically interested in the claim that the iPad Pro 2020 can replace a laptop in light of some conflicting reviews I've found on what might be slightly niche questions. I'd love to hear from people who have the iPad Pro 2020, especially if you use it as your primary device. Thanks in advance!

First, I am really excited about the possibility of using the iPad Pro with an external HD. Assuming the HD is in the correct format, how easy is it to transfer (large amounts) of documents (.pdfs, .docs, .pages, etc.) stored on an external HD to the iPad Pro? I think most of us store lots of documents locally (and not just in the iCloud) on our laptops; is this as feasible on the iPad Pro? Is it always necessary to pass via the iCloud for this sort of thing? Do you miss MacOs's Finder and its Documents folder, or does the Files folder on the iPad work similarly enough to be able to store, search through, and work with a large number of documents, just as you would on a laptop? To my mind, this is perhaps the main feature that might still separate the iPad Pro from the MacBooks, but I might be mistaken.

Also, I've seen conflicting information about whether the iPad Pro can play certain media file formats, like .mkv video files, either directly from an external HD or once loaded onto the iPad. Do all video files have to go into the iPad's native TV app or a Video app? I've read that you can use third party apps for some of the unsupported formats -- in this case, do those video files get stored in the Files folder? Has anyone tried the VLC iPad app?

Relatedly, can large video files (ie: full movies) be transferred to the device not just for watching, but also for manipulation (ie: making film clips, editing, etc.)? On my laptop, for example, I often make film clips out of .mkv files and insert them into Keynote presentations for teaching, and I'm wondering how possible this sort of work would be on the iPad Pro.

People using the iPad Pro, do you miss anything from MacOs? Or do you think the switch is actually feasible now?

    Thanks!

    Free PDF mark-up apps

    Posted: 01 Sep 2020 08:02 PM PDT

Hi there! I'm a high school student with an iPad Air 3 and an apple pencil. I'm looking for an app that will allow me to do practice papers on the iPad with my pencil. I would appreciate it if it is free because I'm not really keen on paying for apps.

This is what the app should be capable of:

    1. Import PDFs into the app
    2. Edit the PDF and write handwritten text on it.
    3. Should have a variety of pens and highlighters
    4. The ability to save the PDF and export it onto my drive.

    Thanks for your time.

Connect iPad to Windows PC through Connect to Server

    Posted: 01 Sep 2020 08:22 PM PDT

I'm trying to connect my iPad to a specific windows folder. I was able to set up the sharing on my pc and input the IP address when connecting to server.

I can see the folder and all the sub folders in the files app but whenever I try to transfer a photo from the photos app to this specific folder I get an error that says "The operation could not be completed. No such file or directory." Anybody have this issue? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

How to screenshare iPad to Windows PC?

    Posted: 01 Sep 2020 05:54 PM PDT

Sorry if asked before. I tried searching google and reddit but didn't find any clear instructions written in 2020. I know there are many apps that screen mirror but a lot of them cost money and I want to know which free one you guys recommend most. Don't know if there's a way to do it via cable (or if it would be better) and just need advice.

I draw on procreate for iPad and would like to stream my drawing live as I work on it to either discord or twitch.

Required router to unleash iPad Air 2's WiFi potential?

    Posted: 01 Sep 2020 03:57 PM PDT

We have an iPad Air 2 and on Speed Tests (in Spain, that is) , via WiFi we only get 30mbps instead of the contracted 600 from the ISP. (With a PC connected via Ethernet Gigabit Cat6 cable reaches both DL and UL 600Mbnps // 60MB/s on JDownloader2, so it's a router case, see below)

That's because our Neutral router (Wich's connected with Cat6 cables and not replacing the ISP's router, but it's connected to it via a Cat6 cable "bridge" and placed on the other side of the house btw) is a very old D-LINK that only has a 2,4Ghz bandwith and without "MIMO" (Wich , i think, it's required to unleash the iPad's Wi-Fi potential?) and because it's from 9 years ago i think. It's a D-LINK DIR-605L). And it doesn't have this "802.11ac" connection wich the iPad seems to also require (Again, correct me if i'm wrong)

Just in case, i know it sounds off-topic, but i've connected the cables from the router to a laptop we have and it reaches slightly above 300 on DL and around 450 on UL, it's random, but shows the router can work better on ethernet cable.

So we want to replace that old router with something newer and better so that the WiFi reaches the entire house in full potential if possible (100m2 sized house) for any device, but most importantly, make the iPad Air 2's WiFi to work to it's maximum potential (I've read it can nearly reach 1000Mbps or 866Mbps?).

My question is... What'd be a good priced and CORRECT (with the specs that the iPad Air 2 needs) router to make the iPad Air 2 reach such speeds (Or atleast 600Mbps, ISP contract, remember) ?

So far i've been looking around and found these ones wich seems to have everything that i need and are sold where i live, or via internet.

    ASUS RT-AC65P, 86€ https://www.asus.com/Networking/RT-AC65P/overview/

ASUS RT-AC85P 110€ (Seems to have better ethernet and WiFi speed capabilities) https://www.asus.com/Networking/RT-AC85P/overview/

Think you guys can help me out?..Thanks in advance!
