iPad Pro Magic Keyboard Skin... too slippery?

    Posted: 03 Sep 2020 09:57 AM PDT

I just got my Magic Keyboard Skin from dbrand because according to them, they specifically developed a skin to not leave residue or damage the polyurethane on the iPad Pro Magic Keyboard. I got a matte black skin, the cutouts and quality are great, a breeze to install, and with a hairdryer the Apple logo is prominent too. It's pretty close to the keyboard color too which is what I wanted, nothing flashy or gaudy.

But now my iPad has zero grip on my desk. There is no resistance I sometimes push it forward on my desk just tapping the screen. I'm afraid if a gust of wind comes through my window it's going to blow it off my desk. The material of the Magic Keyboard does a great job at keeping the iPad secure on the table, the skin makes it slide all around.

I really like the way the skin looks, and I like keeping this keyboard protected, after all it's a $300 investment. But after a day of this skin installed, I'm almost ready to rip it off and brave the elements again because this has no grip on a surface anymore.

I'd be open to getting a new skin too, does anyone know if the dbrand leather skin or the carbon fiber do any better at making it more "grippy" on a desk? Or is this just the case with any vinyl wrap?

Pretty disappointed because other than the lack of friction on surfaces the skin looks fantastic and I have more peace of mind placing it down on most surfaces, whereas before I would wipe any surface down.

What’s this connector for? (iPad 1st gen Wi-Fi)

Anyone know why there have been so many different iPad sizes 9.7 10.2 and 10.5 and 11”? Quite unlike Apple to keep introducing nee screen sizes

    Posted: 03 Sep 2020 01:58 PM PDT

I am just a bit surprised that in just a few years here have been so many different screen sizes. I was hoping someone would know the reason. Is it from manufacturing side or is it just that Apple is figuring out the ideal sizes?

[Help] Surface Pro Note Taking vs iPad Pro Note Taking (OneNote, Goodnotes, Notability etc.)

    Posted: 03 Sep 2020 10:52 AM PDT

[Help] Surface Pro Note Taking vs iPad Pro Note Taking (OneNote, Goodnotes, Notability etc.)

I currently use a surface pro 4 for note taking but it is slowly dying and I'm looking to take advantage of the Apple education discount to buy an iPad Pro. However, I wanted to ask a few questions about note taking apps before switching. I only use Onenote on my surface pro right now to take notes and I have a few key questions about OneNote and others like goodnotes and notability.

    1. Am I able to import PDFs and PPTs in both portrait and landscape mode (landscape being key). I've had some trouble in the past with importing PDFs and online stuff to OneNote in landscape because it creates a very large page with lots of unneeded white space above and below.
    2. When I import a PDF/PPT will the import be on one continuous page that I can continuously scroll to the bottom and can I add additional PDF/PPT to it if I want to make that chain longer?
    3. Am I able to type and write beside what I've imported rather than on top of the actual page in case I want to keep the page free from markups
    4. How is the search function for written text, words on images etc. (less important but ideal)
    5. Notebook Organization: Can i have multiple single subject notebooks and break it down into the weeks then the weeks into days and then the lectures within each day. Basically, the more i can break it down, the better. And can I hide the sides to display more of the page.

These are my must haves (though I can be somewhat flexible) and I'm wondering if any of the note taking apps have these. If not, then I guess I might have to get a new Surface Pro instead.

    Thanks for the help!

edit: also if I were to switch to goodnotes/notability, has anyone tried exporting from OneNote over?

Marked up on the slide, text that I can put on the slide or beside it and highlight everything if I wanted to including stuff on the page

Subject = GU, Weeks = above, days and lectures = right side. I don't need it to look like this exactly as long as it is set up in a relatively easy to use way

Hide everything and just have the slides to use. This also shows how I can scroll up and down continuously.

iPad Setup from iPhone Backup: Install only designed-for-iPad apps or delete non-designed for iPad apps?

    Posted: 03 Sep 2020 02:14 PM PDT

Just set up a new iPad from an iPhone backup (no iPad previously). It installed every app from iPhone, which is fine, but many of my apps don't have iPad equivalents, and I find no reason to have iPhone scaled apps on an iPad.

Is there a way to do either of the following?

1.) Setup an iPad from an iPhone backup and only install apps that have a designed-for-iPad version.

2.) Delete all apps after setup that are not designed-for-iPad.

Sorry if my terminology is off, or I'm not making sense.

    Thanks!

Do you use the LTE radio as often as you thought? Do you wish you had it?

    Posted: 03 Sep 2020 02:11 PM PDT

I have a WiFi-only 2018 iPad Pro and just bought a new 2018 LTE model on sale from B&H with the intent to sell my WiFi one. I think I can just about break even on it all, aside from the cell service.

After working from home so long, I'm interested in spending time outside working — if only at a park under a tree.

For those of you with an LTE iPad, do you use the radio as much as you thought you would?

If you don't have an LTE iPad, do you wish you had one?

Is there a way to force all incoming/outgoing audio to a specific device?

Similar to setting default audio devices on windows? If there is an app that does this, that would be fine too.

    Note taking app

    Posted: 03 Sep 2020 01:19 PM PDT

Having trouble finding a good note taking app that meets these criteria (iPad Pro + Apple Pencil) (1) Infinite horizontal canvas (2) Sync to Google Drive or Dropbox

Most options seem to have one or the other but not both. OneNote is perfect except Microsoft makes you use their own syncing service - I already pay dearly for Dropbox, my Microsoft One Drive is full, and I refuse to pay for more space.

Conversely, Notability is good but does not have infinite horizontal scroll.

    Any recommendations?

Can I edit the text replacements externally?

    Posted: 03 Sep 2020 01:02 PM PDT

    Hi everyone,

I need your help: I have a long list of AutoHotkey replacements on my Windows Computer and I want to use them on my iPad (2017 in case that matters). Now I know I can go into the settings and enter them manually which I did with the most common ones, but there is no way I'll do that 5,000 times.

Is it possible to access that list (I know it somehow syncs to iCloud but I can't find them when I log into ICloud in the browser (in fact there is nothing at all in my iCloud). Can someone help me? Thanks in advance.

Is Procreate still the app for digital art? Or is there something else?

    Posted: 03 Sep 2020 08:16 AM PDT

I figure that since I have an iPad and an Apple Pencil, I might as well give drawing a shot. I remember seeing a lot of artwork here and their respective OPs saying they used Procreate.

Is that still the app to go to, or is there something else? I don't mind paying, I'm just shopping around in case there are other quality apps with other features.

How fast can the iPad Air 3 be charged?

    Posted: 03 Sep 2020 08:28 AM PDT

So I was scrolling around and came across this article which claims that the iPad Air 3 can be charged with a 90W charger: https://support.apple.com/en-za/HT208137

Here they talk about the 30W charger: https://www.inviolabs.com/blogs/news/which-usb-pd-fast-charger-is-needed-ipad-air3-mini-5-charging-test

And here about the 18W charger: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/251108849

Anyone knows which is the upper limit?

What's a good subreddit or website to find people who have used MightyText and also an ipad version of it like mysms?

    Posted: 03 Sep 2020 07:32 AM PDT

For phone texting through ipad and other devices

I used mighty text now with my android phone/windows laptop. I'm trying to figure out if installing mysms on top of that for all of them will screw things up / confuse the devices with two different similar apps both running

Best way to prop IPad to avoid slouching?

    Posted: 02 Sep 2020 09:36 PM PDT

Just started classes on Monday and my back has been killing from all the note taking on Goodnotes. Is there a good way to prop your iPad up or something to keep myself from slouching? I'm hoping I won't have to go the self responsibility route.

Hello, on Today View, is it possible to have the Outlook widget display Outlook email notifications/previews rather than Outlook calendar events? I don't seem to be able to find any information on this anywhere else. Thanks!
