    Questions about Family Sharing/Apple One

    I've looked at all the Family Sharing and Apple One things I could find online, but still not sure about/don't understand some things. So I have some questions.

    Right now I pay annually for Apple Music and Apple Arcade (although I really don't use Arcade, but thought I would when I signed up). I also have a free Apple TV+ subscription from last year's iPhone purchase, which I'll pay annually for once it's no longer free. I also pay $2.99/month for iCloud storage upgrade to 200GB.

    I was looking at the Apple One subscriptions. Doing the individual subscription would save me around $56 over what I am/will be paying now. Doing the family subscription would only cost me a minimal amount (about $4) more than I'm paying now. So I was thinking about doing family and sharing with my spouse, and possibly my mother and a couple other family. None would be kids/minors.

    Right now none of us shares our location with anyone - not even with each other. Friends and family who have iPhones can't see where we are. No plans to change this. If I don't enable Location Sharing, I'm assuming that means that "Find My" won't work to find each other's phone if one of us happens to lose our phone or it gets stolen. But we would still be able to use our own iCloud accounts to locate our own devices. Is that correct?

    Purchase sharing. We have no interest in purchase sharing. We've never purchased the same apps separately (that I'm aware of). None of us has any interest in seeing what the other has purchased or subscribed to within apps. If I have purchase sharing turned off does that mean in addition to not being able to share purchases, we would also not be able to see each others apps/purchases/subscriptions?

    Purchases. I would pay for the Apple One subscription, but I don't want to pay for all kinds of other apps/subscriptions/whatever everyone else is doing on their devices. That's on their dime. I went through the process of setting up Family Sharing. The only thing I haven't done is add anyone yet. The first thing that came up was purchase sharing. I told it "not now." But then on the next screen it tells me that any purchases made by family members will be billed to my credit card. Is there no way to make them pay for their own stuff? I don't understand why sharing has to mean one person paying for everything everyone else is doing. There are some apps (and subscriptions) in the App Store that are pretty pricey, and I don't want to be paying for that stuff - especially if it's something I'd never use.

    Music. Right now I have an individual subscription to Music. If I do Apple One and share the Music subscription - does that mean we'll see what each other is listening to/downloading? If so, will things other people are listening to/downloading be showing up in my library, or will it be in some separate location? Or is it just the subscription is shared, and we still each have our own separate libraries and whatnot? We don't like all the same music, and there are some things others listen to that I definitely don't want getting mixed in to my library.

    Storage. Right now I have the 200GB upgrade. I don't think my anyone else pays for any extra storage. If I go with Apple One, it's my understanding the 200GB would be shared between everyone. We wouldn't each have our own 200GB, correct? How exactly does this work? Do we just share the space and can't see each other's files, or do we get access to each other's files also?

    I found this iPhone 4 That was donated to a thrift store. The back is completely shattered and it’s locked for 13 years. Any suggestions on what to do with this? Sell for parts, recycle, fix etc

    powerbook medic data recovery service?

    According to apple and ubreakifix, my logic board has failed and the only way to get my data is to pay someone anywhere from $900-3900 because my hard drive is soldered on (late 2017 15inch mbp). Powerbook Medic actually quoted a reasonable price for data recovery but they have really mixed reviews on yelp. Has anyone here used their data recovery service?

    YouTube not playing video when connected to HomePods.

    I've noticed the last couple of days that whenever I connect my phone or iPad to my HomePods the YouTube video just cuts out. The audio is still there entirely but no video. Any ideas on how to fix this?

    Isn’t it possible to arrange Apple Music by date the song was added?

    I know there is a "recently added" playlist, but those disappear after a week or two. I want to be able to arrange music so I can find them by the date I added them—so most recent song first. That way I can see all my new favorite songs without having to search thru all my songs. ???

    The high Sierra security update that killed my MacBook Pro and now the time machine backup from it has messed up my 27” iMac I just got today.

    Hoping someone here can help. Earlier this week I updated the last high Sierra security update along with the safari update for my 2011 15" MacBook Pro i7. This update made my computer unbootable and after every possible way of restoring the computer I decided to just sell it. Today I picked up a 27inch iMac of a similar year with an i5 instead. Everything was working great and it came with high Sierra. When I left to work I restored it with my time machine from MacBook before that last update. When I came home on lunch to check it the loading bar was hanging on. I called Apple and they recommended to restart it from scratch using command-option-r. I now get the error code -2106f. If anyone could help me just get a fresh Sierra install again, I will just throwaway that cursed hard drive containing my MacBook backup.

    the charging port is loose. Let me elaborate. anything i plug in easily falls out to the point that i even look at it funny and the cable will be loose and stop charging. i've tried cleaning it out with like a can of computer duster or a thin needle because i thought it could be dirt. do you guys have any ideas or solutions?

    I hope I'm just missing something simple, but I can't for the life of me get the native files application on my ipad to connect to my ftp web server. I've tried tons of things: ftp.mysite.co:21, shared IP address, plain mysite.co, etc., but all of them time out. I know the credentials are good. For those of you able to connect, can you share explicitly what you type in order to connect? My webserver is managed by cpanel if it helps. I'm using ipados 14, but 13 didn't work either. And the reason I need Files to work is because of app integrations like Pretext.

    Installing Mac OS X (pro 2010)

    Hello everyone,

    I'm working with a 2010 Macbook Pro A1286. I have installed a fresh SSD, and new RAM. I cannot get it to install MAC OS X Lion.

    After going through internet recovery, I formatted the SSD for Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Then I went to install mac os x lion and it says its going to take -2billion hours, then it stops and says "can't download the additional components needed to install Mac OS X."

    Now, Here is what I've tried

    • Ensuring the computer is connected to ethernet and plugged into the charger
    • Downloaded an OSX Lion .DMG to a flash drive and attempted to boot via the USB by holding the option key. When doing this, the only option it gives me is internet recovery.
    • I tried resetting the PRAM
    • I tried using just 1 ram stick
    • I tried both single ram sticks
    • I tried the old RAM in the same configuration
    • I tried adjusting the date and time via terminal
    • I have tried using two USB's. One contains OS X lion, and the other is blank. I booted into disk utilities and created an image onto the blank USB. After restarting, it was still not detected as a bootable USB. Only internet recovery available.

    I am out of options, if anybody can help me out, I would very much appreciate it!

    How does Apple Music and imported songs with iTunes work?

    Recently came back to iOS. And saw on the settings for Apple Music, that is says that all music will be synced across devices even those that are imported to iTunes.

    So does that mean if I import an album that isn't on Apple Music on my pc into iTunes, it will automatically download it on my phone? Does that use up my iCloud storage or something?

    Why does my ringer seem to decrease over time? I’m 100% sure that the last time I opened this settings page it was all the way up. This isn’t the first time either. It usually is just slightly below where it was before but this time it’s all the way down. It’s super annoying

    Whenever a Facetime/phone call arrives through my computer, it automatically boots me back to my desktop to accept/decline the call through the small notification window on the upper right of the screen. Is there a setting that I can enable/disable where it will simply overlay the incoming call on top of the current window I am in without exiting me out? Thanks!

    Would someone be able see if my lighting cable is legit?

    I have pictures of the cable that I can provide, I did look on apple site on how to tell and both sides of the cable appear to match up, but I cannot find any writing on the cable itself. I did chat with someone who said that the cable they had bought a cable directly from the apple store and that their cable had no writing on it. Any help would be great. If you think you can help let me know and I'll upload the pictures to Imgur of the cable and box. Thanks

    iPhone restore from iCloud backup crashing

    I am trying to restore my iPhone 11 Pro Max from an iCloud backup that has old downloaded music from other apple IDs. After I skip the 15th account or so, the phone crashes and it resets to the beginning of the restore process. Does anyone know if there is a way to skip all of the Apple IDs at once or a way I can get around this step?

    Apple Watch Series 3

    Latest update either my watch is dying or this update sucks for my watch. All it does is restart about 10 times a day. If it's not restarting it acts as if I've never put the passcode in it and just looks stupid. Won't read temp, messages, nothing. Then I'll move my hand and it asks for passcode again then my wrist buzz's for a few minutes with what it missed.

    Anyone else having this issue with Apple Watch?

    Apps keep refreshing after I switch screens

    Hello, all! I'll keep it short, also because there isn't much on it:

    I have an iPhone 7. It's old. I don't even know how old, I think it's 6 years old? Lately it's been showing signs of age, the back camera is all shaky, but just YESTERDAY I have had this one issue where the iPhone is unable to keep an app where it was when I switch apps and do stuff somewhere else for a while. Say I'm on Reddit and someone asks something, and I wanna answer, so I switch to Safari to google it. If I go back, I'm greeted by the Reddit symbol and the home screen loads.

    If I'm in the middle of typing a phone number and I forget what the number is and switch apps to check, same thing - phone app refreshes. Have to type it again.

    And this started happening yesterday, really. I switch apps a lot so I noticed. I did NOTHING different, performed the software update this morning (I won't check which version it is or else I'll lose my post to this hideous Refresh, but it's the newest one) to no avail.

    I've also tried turning "background update" off or whatever the name is in English but it didn't change a thing.

    Can it be fixed? Is my mobile just giving up on life at this point? Help is appreciated, cheers!

    Catalina OS Upgrade failed on a MacBook pro late 2013.

    I'm a PC guy, I don't know much about macOS.

    I tired upgrading a friends machine to Catalina OS but it's now failing.

    1. When I try to boot up normally it gives me the circle with the line through it.
    2. I've tried reseting the NVRAM through Option-Command-P-R. It gets me to the login screen. I log in and there is a progress bar. It then moves to Installing MacOS and then eventually tells me it couldn't install. There's an error. Use D for diagnostic. The only error that came up was the battery.
    3. I restarted it and it went through the install again. The status bar is at 100% but it went from 4 minutes remaining to 9 minutes remaining. It's been stuck like that for about 90 minutes.

    Not sure what to do.

    In the past, I've tried safe mode, I've tried using recovery from the internet as well and while I don't recall the error message, it failed as well (it was not a connectivity issue).

    I don't recall the OS that was on their before. It does not have a firmware password. The power adapter is connected. The diagnostic told me the battery will need to be replaced at some point in the future as it's not holding a full charge. It is obviously not in warranty.

    I seem to remember the diagnostics at one point telling me there was an unspecified hard drive error VDH002 but that only showed up once and then went away. I did the hard drive test and it came up with no errors. I believe it's an SSD, are they easy to replace on MACs? Is it just a matter of going out and getting a WD Blue SSD and calling it a day (assuming if that's even the issue).

    Getting "Error Copying File or Folder" - "A device attached to the system is not functioning" more and more (iPhone 7 - iOS 14 - Win 10)

    When copying the camera roll images and video to my hard drive this error window pops up

    Seeing it happen more and more nearly everytime I copy files now, I have to unplug and re-plug in the phone via usb.

    Getting a bit wild for this frequency the error happens.

    Any ideas?
