Any tips or tricks for a newbie? -life long windows user, bought a Macbook today. Posted: 30 Aug 2020 12:27 AM PDT Like the title says. I've never used macOS before now. I bought a 2015 MacBook on eBay and it just came in the mail. I went ahead and installed the Big Sur beta because I've been running iOS beta 14 and its been great. I've been a life long windows user and android user since day one. so I'm very new to this (I keep going to the right to close windows or minimize them). I was wondering if you have any tips or tricks for someone who is born new to the scene. Or apps that you recommend for Mac. I already grabbed Magnet at a friend recommendation for window snapping. wondering if there are other gems that will make my transition easier/more productive. [link] [comments]
How to rebuild Music.app’s library? Posted: 30 Aug 2020 01:37 AM PDT First post here so I guess I introduce myself. I've started using Macs all the way back in '97 with the PB1400 and went through many iBooks, iMacs, MacBooks and finally settled with MacBook Air. I don't use any heavy duty software, so I generally upgrade the system as soon as it's deemed safe by general public (usually a week or two after the release). My iTunes library started with the first edition of iTunes, back on OS 9 and I simply kept upgrading through all these years, but I guess the days of things "just working" are over: I had been cleaning up some metadata issues causing the albums to split (a common problem) when I discovered I have double entries for several artists. The albums and songs within are the same, so it's not a simple split where some songs would be under one entry and the rest under the other. It doesn't show double in the fancy overlay introduced a few versions back, but it does show in the column view. Interestingly enough the files on the HD are in perfect order with no duplicates. Changing the metadata or notes of a song in one place modifies the entries in the other folder of the same artist... clearly it is an issue with the database structure rather than metadata or duplicated files. The question is, how to fix it? The Music.app own cleanup tools are useless. In the past I'd just delete iTunes Library.itl / .xml and let the iTunes rebuild the database... but I don't see the most recent files it in the Library's folder... and I don't know if it is a safe thing to do anymore. If it is, where to find the database files to delete? I'd appreciate a helping hand. TIA [link] [comments]
Can't seem to find a legit download for Intel Power Gadget, any safe links? Posted: 29 Aug 2020 08:15 PM PDT Hey guys, just unboxed my brand new 16' Macbook pro and the first thing I want to do is monitor stock temps, but for whatever reason, I can't seem to be able to download Intel Power Gadget from intel's webpage, anyone has a link I can use? (secure please). Cheers! [link] [comments]

Lags while entering wrong password Posted: 29 Aug 2020 07:21 PM PDT Hi, i use a 2015 13" rMBP and i have noticed since updating to macOS Mojave there has been 2-3 seconds of lag when i enter a wrong password to login from sleep. Does anyone else experience this in their machine? Is there anyway around to fix it. [link] [comments]
2017 iMac crashed pretty recently after upgrading to Catalina. Any advice? Posted: 29 Aug 2020 07:13 PM PDT I barely use this computer other than occasional web/email and for photo storage. I was on it the other day and woke up the next morning and it was off. Odd. So I rebooted and I've been in this endless cycle of getting stuck in the load screen. I've tried everything I could think of and have researched a bunch of trouble shooting to no avail. It runs in safe mode only. I've managed to back up all my pics but fear it may be a logic board issue. Sometimes when restarting, the load bar and logo will be a weird color, or will be to the right side of the screen. It also has gotten stuck loading and the screen flashed and half the screen was white and the other was black. The load bar was multi colored. I don't understand how a 3 year old Mac that I barely use has these issues suddenly. [link] [comments]
iTunes Music - Full Screen, not displaying lyrics Posted: 29 Aug 2020 06:00 PM PDT [edit: I guess it's just called the Music app now] On my Mac, I noticed that songs in the mini-player that show lyrics sometimes won't show the same lyrics when swapped to full screen. It's odd since the lyrics are clearly there. At one point it was working in full screen actually, then just stopped working in full screen, I just see the album artwork and song controls. I can't press the lyric button in full screen. I tried restarting the music app but didn't make a difference. Has anyone encountered this too? Seems like a bug. My system is running macOS Catalina 10.15.5 [link] [comments]
G Tech Studio XL not mounting, causing issues on imac 2017 Posted: 29 Aug 2020 05:05 PM PDT Posting this here because it was suggested on r/24hoursupport that this could be a software issue in my imac. I have a G-Speed Studio XL raid hard drive tower that I have been using with my 2017 IMAC since summer 2017. Yesterday it suddenly stopped showing up on my desktop. When I plug it in, the G-Speed Software shows a notification that the drive is plugged in, but it will not mount. It doesn't show in my finder, and while it is plugged in I can not open Disk Utility as it just freezes. my mac will also not shut down while it is plugged in. I have tried multiple power cables and thunderbolt cables so I know its not the issue. Any ideas? is this thing toast? Terminal logs here: link [link] [comments]
How do I fix "Time Machine could not create a local snapshot to back up from" MacOS Catalina Posted: 29 Aug 2020 04:28 PM PDT I just got a new 2TB Samsung T5 external SSD. I partitioned 1TB to be a Time Machine and 1TB to be storage. I tried to Back everything up on time machine so I can restore my Mac, but i get the "Time Machine could not create a local snapshot to back up from." Error Message. I also have 2 "Macintosh HD Data" disks on my system idk how these came about and idk how to get rid of them. Could that be the culprit? [link] [comments]
FYI - Don't format disk if you want to revert from Big Sur to Catalina Posted: 29 Aug 2020 04:23 PM PDT Personal experience if you're running Big Sur at the moment, don't format drive within Disk Utility to revert back to Catalina. I did this now my Macbook Pro 2018 Touchbar in some sort of fixed state of not booting.

Logitech Bluetooth mouse lag and stutter Posted: 29 Aug 2020 04:02 PM PDT I'm using a 2019 Macbook Pro 16 running catalina(10.15.6) with a Logitech MX Anywhere 2s wireless mouse and it keeps stuttering every half a minute or so. The catch here is that this issue only happens when the mac is connected to a dell dock via a thunderbolt port, suggesting some kind of interference caused by the multiple devices (two monitors, keyboard, mic, etc) on the wireless connection (it happens with both dongle and bluetooth) I also have a Dell xps 15 running linux (manjaro) and this doesn't happen at all, even when it is plugged to the dock. You would think that macOs has better support for peripherals than linux, but that doesn't seem the case here. I've tried:
I can't believe I'm gonna have resort to a corded mouse for the mac when my linux setup can handle it just fine. I've seen older posts about this but none seem to provide a definite answer so I'm trying to ask it once more. Any new idea would be helpful, thanks! [link] [comments]
Posted: 29 Aug 2020 07:34 PM PDT I have an old 2009 Polycarbonate Unibody MacBook A1342. I have upgraded the RAM to 8GB 1067MHz, and installed an SSD, as well as cleaned a ton of dust and the fans and applied new thermal paste. But it still has that old Core 2 Duo and Nvidia GeForce 9400M integrated graphics. Should I update it to macOS Catalina, though it's not officially supported, or even Big Sur once it comes out? Or will it considerably slow down the laptop? Also if I shouldn't update to those which update should I settle at? I currently am running El Capitan. [link] [comments]

Posted: 29 Aug 2020 05:20 AM PDT Hello! I opened my website with download links and direct download links for older versions of Mac OS X, which have been really difficult for a long time. You will be able to find all the older versions of Mac OS X on my website constantly. For now, I posted the link on my website that contains the version of El Capitan 10.11 directly, which everyone has difficulty finding and cannot be found by my friends. I am creating this content not as an advertisement, but for users who cannot find the download link because there are errors in downloads occurring in zero installations via the AppStore and it is very difficult to find the real download links without getting infected! At least I am saying this by taking the path from my experience because I tried to find it for a few days. FAkat why should we bother? I tried, you guys did not bother. If there is a version you want, please specify it, I would like to add as content. You can reach the El Capitan 10.11 download link here: Mac OS X El Capitan 10.11 Download Edit: el capitan link was not direct. [link] [comments]

Increase delay before screenshot disappears in right-bottom corner Posted: 29 Aug 2020 11:25 AM PDT Hi guys, i have a question for the masters of macos between you. I take a lot of screenshots, and the new feature in Catalina that allows you to take one, get it in the right corner and drag-n-drop it is super useful to me. The only problem is that sometimes i don't get it in time and it disappears (ofc it gets saved on the Desktop, but it's still a "pain" to go get it. So here the question: is there a terminal command/ setting i can tweak to increase the delay before the screenshot disappears? Thank you all :D [link] [comments]
Photos and Music Creation storage optimization question Posted: 29 Aug 2020 10:44 AM PDT Hey all, first-timer here. I have a 2018 Mac mini with, unfortunately, only a 128 gb SSD. (Not ideal, but funds were a bit more limited at purchase time, and I figured I'd learn how to optimize it.) As part of that optimization, I've moved my libraries for Apple Music, Photos, iMovie and Logic Pro to external drives using the directions on the Apple site. Apple Music and iMovie seem to have worked fine, but when I check my current capacity (About This Mac -> Storage -> Manage), it's still showing almost 7 gb of "Music Creation" (Apple Loops and Instrument Library) and more than 4 worth of Photos. Have I missed a step somewhere here? I followed Apple's directions exactly so I'm not sure why these are still showing up. Every gig counts with this baby drive, so I'd really appreciate any insight. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments]
