The Jigsaw app syncs your desktop icon positions via iCloud Posted: 05 Aug 2020 01:47 AM PDT There now is an app that can sync your desktop, including icon positions, via iCloud - so you have the same desktop on multiple macOS devices. It's called Jigsaw and it's free. You can download the app at the developer's site. [link] [comments]

Posted: 04 Aug 2020 10:31 PM PDT I checked Users & Security -> Users -> Log-in items, but the applications don't appear there. For example, I don't want Docker to start every time. I can manually disable it, in the applications settings. I also don't want ColdTurkey Blocker, Slack, Usage and other applications to autostart, but they have no settings to disable it. Is there a Mac OSX Tool that allows me to see what applications automatically start and remove them like that? Just like there is with Windows. [link] [comments]
Posted: 04 Aug 2020 03:30 PM PDT I have a fun story. I was trying to get rid of the Big Sur. I just opened the recovery tool and tried to reinstall catalina. The installation failed tho. (I'm dumb enough not to erase the disk before downgrading. Then idk how but i corrupted the Big Sur and the Mac kept on bootlooping. I nearly had a heartattack and after force restarting, there was that crossmark sign. I googled what it means and it said it means incompatible OS. Then i ran the recovery tool again and reinstalled Big Sur. The Big Sur has a very little minor bug that when the screen turns off, the installation restarts and goes from the beggining. So to be able to see my desktop again, i've been moving the mouse so the screen doesn't turn off for the past 1hour minimal. Even my slow ass Wifi helped. [link] [comments]
Should I update to macOS Catalina? Posted: 05 Aug 2020 01:11 AM PDT I have a mac mini server from late 2009 and its currently running el capitan, since its getting no security updates I am thinking it could be a good idea to update to macOS Catalina using dosdude1's catalina patcher although I am not sure if that would be safer. I hope you guys can help. [link] [comments]
Posted: 05 Aug 2020 12:49 AM PDT I'm asking because I've tried multiple times to switch to Safari, because I appreciate minimalism and efficient apps. But so far I've always come back to Chromium every time. Partly that's because of the extensions and developer tools, but I hope that that will get better on Big Sur. But another reason I always switch back is that I actually find Safari to be more laggy than Chromium browsers on heavier websites. It's especially noticeable when I browse r/videos. Whenever I'm on r/videos, the more I scroll down (and thus load more videos), the laggier everything gets in Safari. And at some point, making a video full-screen takes multiple seconds and then I'll get this bar at the top of my screen that says: While in Chromium browsers I never experience such issues. Do other people recognize this? Has anyone figured out if a change in settings could actually fix this issue? [link] [comments]
Mac Mini unresponsive after power outage Posted: 04 Aug 2020 11:53 PM PDT Hi everyone, I turned on my current-gen Mac Mini after a power outage and while it's not dead, it's acting really weird. Wifi is gone. Apps are slow to load. It takes Firefox and Chrome a full minute to launch, for example. External HDD also takes a while to connect. What might be wrong and is there any way to fix it? Thanks in advance. [link] [comments]
Posted: 04 Aug 2020 04:24 PM PDT The computer runs really well on 10.7.5 Lion but ableton / adobe suite need a more current OS to operate, supposedly. I'd love to give my 2015 macbook pro a break with these heavy programs. Music creation/photo management would be the only two things the desktop would be used for. Thought? Oh, I'm a luddite so forgive my incompetence. [link] [comments]
Posted: 04 Aug 2020 05:12 PM PDT I remember back when I used to use Mac at the family home there was Inkwell for when i had my tablet plugged in. It allowed handwriting input in apps so you didn't have to reach over to your keyboard in case of limited desk space. I've just recently got a MacBook Air with Catalina and I have learnt that Ink was deprecated never to return. Try as I might I haven't found any alternatives for it either except for in Chinese and Japanese. Does anybody know any software that would enable handwriting support for text entry in apps like Discord, Telegram, and Mail? [link] [comments]
Posted: 04 Aug 2020 08:29 PM PDT I'm trying to update from Catalina and I have the Big Sur Beta installer on my machine. When the machine resets for the installation it keeps on booting back into Catalina and I have to restart the installer. Anyone know what the solution is? [link] [comments]

Posted: 04 Aug 2020 10:02 AM PDT Howdy all, We are now migrating to Catalina 10.15.5 from Mojave and are moving all of our network shares over to SMB. In testing what I have discovered is that regardless of the mounting mechanism (Manual though finder, auto_mount, or MDM policy) the SMB mount will disappear several hours later. The only changes I have mad are to the nsmb.conf Firstly I tried: signing_required=no And then added: streams=yes soft=yes protocol_vers_map=2 file_ids_off=yes To no avail. I've been seeing reference to SMB issues with Catalina, but have not found anything from Apple regarding it. Anyone have an idea? Thanks [link] [comments]
Posted: 04 Aug 2020 12:42 PM PDT Every time I open Safari it closes before I even see it open and says 'Safari quit unexpectedly'. I have installed xcode beta, deleted the files in library>preferences to do with safari, and tried opening from a link and through terminal. These are all the solutions I have seen so far and none have worked. Anyone know how to help? [link] [comments]
This MBA downgraded itself...how? Posted: 04 Aug 2020 03:54 PM PDT This is baffling. I had an early 2015 base model MBA that I setup for my daughter last year. It had been properly severed from its prior owner and I moved it to my Apple account and then later to my daughters account. I went to some planes to create a Catalina install device via USB and install Catalina with APFS 64 bit from scratch. It ran beautifully. I had zero issues. I configured just the basics, added a browser and AdGuard, and a couple of other tweaks. Sent to daughter. Months later, a kid baptized it with a large drink. Shorted out. I got it back, removed drive, sold for parts on eBay, bought an early 2014 model replacement, today swapped out the drives, booted up. It was a little slow booting up, but looked fairly normal at first glance. Then digging down I see it is running Mojave, HPFS, but her files an apps are intact. She is by no means a Mac tech, and had no idea why I was asking questions. Anyway, how did this happen? I'm going to wild-guess that it at some point sync'd an image that was prior to Catalina.... But that would be an awesome trick to emerge with all the apps and files intact and working, but the OS X ver And file system downgraded .?.? [link] [comments]
iMac sees only HDD and not SSD Posted: 04 Aug 2020 09:51 AM PDT I have an iMac late 2012 and decided to upgrade to an SSD. When I installed the SSD, the disk utility didn't see the SSD at all. I took it out and formatted it externally on another Mac as journalled. The iMac still doesn't see the SSD but it will see a regular HDD without a problem. SSD info: DMS celerity 6g sata 3 HDD info: Apple Hitachi spinning drive 5400rpm I've installed each OS via USB from Yosemite up to Mojave to see if the firmware by chance didn't install correctly. I've booted into recovery and tried to see if it will show up there. I've used terminal with "diskutil list", to no luck is it even listed there. Has anybody had this problem before and has a solution? [link] [comments] |
