| Connecting my MacBook Air 2015 to an external display Posted: 31 Aug 2020 12:20 AM PDT I was thinking of using an adapter USB to USB C to connect my MacBook Air 2015 to an external display to use it in clamshell mode. My MacBook Air doesn't have USB C port, that's why. My question is if my monitor will provide power to my Mac using the adapter and if I will be able to use it in clamshell mode (lid closed). After ordering her folks surprised her with a new MacBook Air. Will she face any issues if she keeps the MacBook Air for herself and "sells" me the MacBook Pro she purchased with her educators discount? I was trying to factory reset the computer to sell it but while doing so I erased the Macintosh HD instead of the Macintosh HD - Disk. All the tutorials I've seen said I needed to erase the Macintosh HD - disk but I didn't do that. Is this a major problem? I want to be able to use my Macbook Pro's Touchbar as an audio player so I can touch a customizable button that would play a sound like applause or an airhorn during video meetings. There is already an app called Samplr (http://samplr.net/touchbar/) that uses this concept but it only works on OS 10.15 which I am not able to upgrade due to some necessary apps that won't work on Catalina. | Macbook Air made a loud pop noise, shut off, and now wont turn on Posted: 30 Aug 2020 03:31 PM PDT Last night I had opened my macbook and logged in. Right after logging in my macbook made a loud pop like an outlet blowing up and everything shut off. I cant power it on now and when i try it makes the initial powering on noise, but nothing happens on the screen. I've tried starting it while it's plugged in and without it being plugged in. When I have it plugged in and try powering it on the light on the charging cable turns green but after about 2-3 seconds the computer shuts off again and the light turns orange. I heard somewhere that the best way to save cycles was to keep the mbp in charger when I could and only let it partially discharge to 50% once in a month to make the battery healthy. I also always heard that plugging on the charger in middle charge would help ruining the battery over time. So, for example, when I unplug my mbp and go somewhere and plug it again for example at 85%, will it harm my battery? [link] [comments]  | ||

I recently purchased a MacBook and I'm using two external screens with it (an external monitor connected via USB-C and an iPad Pro connected via wireless sidecar). I'd prefer to connect the iPad via USB-C, but I'm using the remaining port for the power adapter. Is there a cable that would allow me to connect two monitors to a single port or do I need a USB hub? I have a 2010 MacBook Pro running on Yosemite and a 2016 MacBook running on High Sierra. I have backed up both laptops to an external HD through Time Machine. Is it possible to run the 2016 MacBook's Time Machine back up on the 2010 MacBook Pro even if High Sierra is not an available operating system for the 2010 MacBook Pro? Long Story Long: I am taking the CA bar exam in October. We are using a remote software where the software locks you out of accessing anything besides the exam, but the software then has access to anything in your computer. Some of the remote software companies have had security breaches and examinees' financial accounts have been hacked. This isn't the case (so far) with the software company CA is using, but in an effort to protect my data, I'm factory resetting my 2016 MacBook so I won't have any personal data on it. (I'll be changing my WiFi login credentials for the days of the exam, as well.) I still need my computer to study in the meantime, so I was wondering if I could operate my 2016 system on my 2010 MacBook Pro or if they're incompatible. [link] [comments]  | ||

The apple store is out of stock on the baseline Macbook Pro model which is the one I want to get. The thing is that Apple is giving AirPods at a discounted price for students on their store so I wanted to purchase it from there. They do however have the i5 Macbook Air for the same price as the baseline pro. I also found another store that have the base Macbook Pro at the same discount price as Apple but without the Airpods pro. So, should I buy the i5 Macbook Air + Airpods Pro.
