Something is off with my trackpad Posted: 18 Jul 2020 02:18 AM PDT Very weak clicking noise. The haptic feedback is hardly noticeable. No other issues on trackpad except for the vibration that makes it feel like an actual button. And now I'm rummaging things around, I found out that when I hard press on the lower right corner. There's a popping high pitched sound that feels like something inside is broken? And the sound is still there when I shut down my macbook (when supposedly no haptic feedback should happen since it's off). I haven't dropped my macbook or whatsover. It's been on my desk for ages. Finally, what's the inside of the latest trackpad? Is it safe for me to just keep pressing down hard on that part until maybe it goes away? or is there something inside broken? [link] [comments]

Thunderbird 78 severe problems Posted: 18 Jul 2020 01:26 AM PDT On MacOS 10.15.6. I just took the Thunderbird update to 78.0. All my emails display as blank white pages. That is the most severe problem. Oddly enough, if I do "open in new window," the email text is visible in the new window. After minimizing or quitting, Thunderbird now starts with the topmost item in the left hand column. This happens to be the account settings page for one of my email accounts. Annoying. Finally, all my extensions are now incompatible with Thunderbird and hence disabled. That might be as designed, but disappointing. There might be other problems, but I am going to sleep now. Help! Mac with 3 beeps on startup Posted: 17 Jul 2020 04:02 PM PDT I was going to open my MacBook Pro (I think 2012 with High Sierra installed), but instead it just gave me 3 long beeps and the screen remained black. Fortunately I removed most of my files prior to this shutdown, however, I don't want to lose all of my work completely. Is there a way to access my files remotely? Or, is it a RAM issue that I will need to have to fix? [link] [comments]
How well does Catalina run on older Macs? Posted: 17 Jul 2020 01:04 PM PDT I turned on dark theme for my iPhone and now I really want it on my older 2010 Mac Mini with 8gb ram, no ssd (currently running Mavericks). But I'm worried that it would make my Mac run slowly, what do you think? [link] [comments]
No new finder windows when connecting to server? Posted: 17 Jul 2020 05:16 PM PDT Hi guys. I hope this will be an easy question. I would really appreciate your input. I have added some network volumes to my Login Items (in Users & Groups) so that my Mac automatically connects to them when I log into my account. However, for every connection there is a new finder window opened. Closing 6 windows every time I log in might soon get a bit annoying.😅 Does anybody know how I can prevent these windows to pop up every time, or maybe if there is a better way to do it? Thank you. I appreciate your comments.😊 [link] [comments]
Posted: 17 Jul 2020 04:03 PM PDT I recently purchased my first ever Mac. A MacBook Pro 16. I was enjoying the experience, particularly the integration with my phone and using iMessages. Unfortunately I had to return the device on Wednesday. At the time I believe I was running Catalina public beta 10.15.5. Through good fortune I was able to again purchase a new MacBook Pro 16 today. I noticed immediately that the new software is 10.15.6. I did the full setup and got back to using the MBP. However, I'm noticing behavior with iMessage that I didn't before. First, I'm not getting any notifications for new messages. I have double checked to make sure Do Not Disturb is off and that notifications are turned on. I'm also noticing that I'm only getting messages from other iPhone/Ipad senders and not other senders. It used to be that I'd get messages from other sources -- for example, when Twitter sends its 2-factor authenticator text, I'd get it on the Mac. Now those aren't coming through at all. I'm seeing weird notifications behavior generally. Email notifications are much slower. I hear the audible sound and then I get the notification on the side of the screen as much as 10 seconds later. Is there something wrong with my system? Is this a change based on the new update? Any help? Thanks. EDIT: I got help from the very friends folks on Reddit and my problem is resolved. Thanks! Posted: 17 Jul 2020 02:07 PM PDT Hey everyone, I have a MacBook with the internal SSD broken, running Mojave from an external SSD, so my question is, it is safe to update to Catalina from the software update tab, or I just have to erase all and install it again in the external drive? Youtube Videos won't play in Safari Posted: 17 Jul 2020 09:30 AM PDT Hello everyone. New mac user here so I apologize if this has been asked before. Every-time i try to play a video on youtube in Safari, I get a message saying "Do you want to allow this page to open VLC app?" Playing videos works fine in Chrome. The interface on Youtube also looks totally weird. I have tried uninstalling VLC and also made sure that there were no extension's running in Safari. Quick way to find iCloud "shared by me" files Posted: 17 Jul 2020 09:09 AM PDT Apologies if this has already been answered. Is there a quick way to see what files/folders you've shared in iCloud? I often share a single file with someone and would prefer to leave it available for a few days then the link expire, or be able to view [quickly] a list of shared files/folders. Can't figure out how to do this. Thanks! [link] [comments]
How can I edit plist on Mail app? Posted: 17 Jul 2020 12:34 PM PDT Hello. I upgraded to Big Sur, but I can't run the mail plug in. I have to edit .plist, but it doesn't let me change permissions. I tried doing system integrity protection disabling , but it didn't help. Some people were changing .plist on forum, but they heck do they do that? Thank you. [link] [comments]
Keyboard shortcuts in touchbar Posted: 17 Jul 2020 11:21 AM PDT Is there a way to put keyboard shortcuts like cmd-w, cmd-m, on the touch bar? [link] [comments]
Can't open app. No option to open anyway. Posted: 17 Jul 2020 07:13 AM PDT I'm 10.15.5 and noticed an app I use to track time had a question mark icon. I trashed it and re-downloaded it only to get the "can't open" window. I went to preferences to check security & privacy and see I have the App Store and identified developers selected. But, unlike what I've read in my research on how to fix this, I don't see an open anyway button to the right of it. Any solutions I've missed? Here's the article I read: https://www.macworld.co.uk/how-to/mac-software/mac-app-unidentified-developer-3669596/. Thanks. [link] [comments]
Can I change quicklook to show the text of html files and not the rendered document? Posted: 17 Jul 2020 10:50 AM PDT Can I change quicklook to show the text of html files and not the rendered document? It would be very handy when I search for all index.html files and I want to see the contents. [link] [comments]

Posted: 17 Jul 2020 05:58 PM PDT So I do! I think it's a great operating system. BUT WHY DOES IT FEEL *SO* DISCONNECTED FROM EVERYTHING ELSE IN THE APPLE ECOSYSTEM?? WHY DOES SIRI NOT COLLAPSE AUTOMATICALLY?? WHY DO I HAVE TO CHECK MY AIRPODS BATTERY IN SYSTEM PREFERENCES?? HOW COME ALL OF THE NATIVE APPLICATIONS ON HERE ARE THE WORST OF THE APPLE VERSIONS OF THESE APPLICATIONS I know macOS 11 is going to fix a lot of these... but why weren't they consistently updated with iOS in the first place??
