LG C9 OLED and Apple TV 4K

LG C9 and Apple TV audio problem. So my sound works great with the built in apps. I just decided to connect my Apple TV to use HBO Max. The audio comes out of the built in speakers so unbelievably low (I don't have a soundbar or home theatre system). Any idea why? I tried changing all the audio settings on the LG and the Apple TV, no luck! Help?!

AppleTV won’t play Apple Music: anyone know why?

    Posted: 05 Jul 2020 07:53 PM PDT

AppleTV 4 blinking light and won't turn on.

    Posted: 05 Jul 2020 03:18 PM PDT

I can't connect to a computer nor my tv. it is literally useless now.

    edit

I used the methods you have mentioned, I left it off for a bit then I turned it back on, and I pressed and hold menu and home icon button at the same time until it restarted then I connect it to my MacBook Pro via USB to USB cable and I saw it is connected. it was asking me to update it so I did the update and it worked. I think it was the update that was interrupted just like /u/VampyreLust mentioned. thanks, everyone.

Am I getting the best audio quality on my Apple TV 4K?

    Posted: 05 Jul 2020 02:57 PM PDT

    Hi all,

    Here's is a my situation.

    Current setup:

    • Apple TV 4K hooked to HDMI behind TV
    • TV is 2017 Samsung MU6300
    • TV supports DD, DD+
    • Sonos Arc sound bar hooked up to HDMI ARC behind my TV.

    Apple TV audio settings:

    • Change Format is set to OFF, formerly called "Best Available"
    • So I should be getting the best quality available for the content I'm watching

    TV audio settings:

    • HDMI Input Audio Format set to BITSTREAM

So, whenever I watch content that is labeled as Dolby Digital 5.1 or Dolby Digital Plus from any app such as the TV app, Netflix, Vudu, HBO Max, etc; my TV will say PCM in the audio settings for Digital Output Audio (the naming on Samsung TVs).

However, when I go into Digital Output Audio, I see that Dolby Digital is black, meaning I can select it. When I select Dolby Digital, I instantly hear the audio from whatever I'm watching get louder and sound "better".

Now, from what I've been reading on the internet, PCM is what I should keep, as opposed to Dolby Digital, since PCM is uncompressed, while Dolby Digital is compressed, lossy decoded audio to my sound bar.

    My questions are as follows:

Should I keep the Apple TV Change Format setting to OFF, or change it to Dolby Digital 5.1?

    AND/OR

Should I change my TV Digital Output Audio to Dolby Digital from PCM whenever it is available to select? Seems like a hassle to keep switching back and forth.

Lastly, even though the TV says PCM, is it STILL Dolby Digital being passed through, but just being labeled as PCM?

Will I be missing out on quality if I leave it on PCM?

    Thanks!

Airplay audio not working on wake up

    Posted: 05 Jul 2020 02:07 PM PDT

Hey folks, testing out an Apple TV 4K with a Sonos five speaker right now and running into an odd issue. My Apple TV remembers which airplay speaker I was last connected to but no audio comes from it. I have to manually disconnect and connect to it again to get audio to come out of it. Is there a fix for this? I couldn't find anything that worked on the Apple forums or Sonos forums and playing around with the settings haven't made a difference.

Connecting Apple TV to my current AV Setup

    Posted: 05 Jul 2020 06:07 PM PDT

Hello All! I am trying to make a purchase decision and would love your input. My current setup at home is a Samsung QLED 75" TV, Onkyo HT-S3500 Receiver and Speakers. All content is coming from the Xbox One.

So the way it works now is that, the Xbox One HDMI out is connected to the Receiver Input. The Receiver output goes to the TV. I have Google Home controlling my receiver, Xbox One and the TV using the Harmony Hub.

I am planning to add the Apple TV 4K into the mix. However, one big limitation that I have is that my receiver does not have 4K pass through. This would mean I have to connect the Apple TV directly to my TV. However, I want the audio routed through my receiver. I am thinking of achieving this by using an optical cable to transmit audio from TV to the receiver.

I had a few questions that I would love your input on -

    1. One of my friends suggested using an HDMI splitter to route the AppleTV signal to the TV and the receiver. Not sure what happens here if my receiver doesn't recognize 4K signals. Would this work?

    2. I currently have Google Home setup to turn on and turn off my entire system using the Harmony Hub. So the harmony hub turns on the Xbox, the TV and the receiver and switches the receiver to the right input channel. Could I have a similar setup with the Apple TV, where I can turn it on along with the TV/Receiver switching receiver inputs using Harmony?

    3. Are there any lag or other drawbacks I need to know about using Optical out to power the audio through the receiver and speakers?

    Any responses are highly appreciated!

Does anyone use Infuse Pro without Plex?

    Posted: 05 Jul 2020 09:05 AM PDT

Currently running a plex server from my Raspberry Pi 4 with an external hard-drive hooked up and everything runs pretty great. The only issue is sometimes, when I update my library, I have to still go into the Plex app and hit "Scan Library Files" in order for Infuse to recognize the changes. Is this a common problem? Does anyone one forego plex altogether and use another software to feed movies to Infuse?

EDIT: Based on the feedback, I've decided to add my movie folder as a media share without Plex and for the most part Infuse takes care of the metadata with little issue. A little barebones but it's getting me 90% of what I had before with Plex.

Is there any converter that converts the LPCM audio output of the ATV to bitstream? I have an LG Soundbar and the channel mapping with LPCM is a mess...

Confused between 4K HDR and DolbyVision

    Posted: 05 Jul 2020 08:13 AM PDT

I have an Apple TV 4K connected to a Sony KD-49X7000G. My TV supports HDR+ but not DolbyVision. During the Apple TV setup it detected and set the resolution to 4K HDR 50hz. If I play a DolbyVision content like from Netflix or AppleTV+ will they play as HDR? Both the AppleTV and the Sony TV lack the option to show which definition it's playing so I'm not sure what I'm getting.

    Spotify not working... help?

    Posted: 05 Jul 2020 03:57 PM PDT

Hi everyone. I downloaded the Apple TV Spotify app and completed the prompted "pair" login via my computer and added the code that popped up on the screen. It made me do it multiple times even thought my internet browser said it paired. After 3 times I decided to restart my Apple TV. Now when I click on the Spotify app nothing happens it just goes blank... what should I do? Thank you!

Difference between 1080p 4th gen and 5th gen?

    Posted: 05 Jul 2020 11:01 AM PDT

I've tried googling this but I can only really find difference between 1080p 4th gen and the 4K 5th gen. I'm looking to get something for my office TV and debating on what to get. It's a 1080p tv

EDIT: sorry I made this confusing by bringing up 4K at all. I am only wondering the difference between the 4th gen 1080p and the 5th gen 1080p. I have a 4K tv with the 4K Apple TV in the living room already. I am only looking to get a 1080p Apple TV

Siri not working in any search fields

    Posted: 05 Jul 2020 08:30 AM PDT

Is anyone else having the problem where pressing Siri from the remote in any search bar results in activating the system Siri and not the text search? It's been happening in multiple apps. Restart didn't fix.

Any way to play iTunes files on TV and view files in list view?

    Posted: 05 Jul 2020 01:19 PM PDT

Any way to play iTunes files on TV and view files in list view?

I have TV shows and movies (on my PC) all loaded into iTunes because I LOVE the organization that I can have in iTunes. With the list view, I can organize based on playlists, or shows, and sort 15 ways to Sunday, and see 20+ episodes on the screen at one time.

    https://preview.redd.it/new1e6tlk3951.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=b1f691890b0f9fa4b4a2ea8b6014acf1fdaed08a

I'd like to find the best way to watch these shows on my smart TV, preferably in such a way that:

    • my playcount gets updated in my iTunes library
    • can use a remote to control the playback from the couch

I do not have ATV, but I do have a Shield.

I've had a horrible experience using Plex to watch files stored on my PC. I dislike anything based around album art, cover view, etc... which seems to be what everyone else likes in these apps. (Again, I want to see LOTS on the screen. Why have a 70" screen and only fit 8 titles on at once?)

Would apple TV help with this? Of course, I could just use my MacbookPro+HDMI and use my beloved iTunes to choose shows to watch, view play count, ratings etc. But then I have no way to control playback from the couch. Please help my tragic first world problems.

Should I buy now or wait for 6th Gen?

    Posted: 05 Jul 2020 08:11 PM PDT

Just pulled the trigger on my first 4K TV (Sony X900H) and was wondering if you guys suggest I grab an Apple TV 4K to go along with it. I currently have the HD version that will move with my old tv to the man cave.

Should I stick it out with the built in apps on my new TV until Apple TV 6 comes out? Is it forsure going to come out in 2020? Should I opt for a Roku or Shield instead?

    Any advice is much appreciated!
