| Posted: 30 Jul 2020 03:49 PM PDT I thought Apple fixed the DV issue with the Apple TV 4K, but when I went to watch the Irishman, I noticed high black levels during the Netflix intro logo creating more of a grey than black on my OLED. When I did the same with the TV's internal app, it was completely black and no issue. The only solution I've found is dimming to 48 instead of 50 but that makes some details harder to see. Was trying to indicate this 2011 title runs extremely well on modern PC. I guess this only applies to families with an often-unused PC. But if you have such a thing, I'd recommend checking out Steam Link. I've been wanting to consolidate our living room hardware to only Apple TV, yet still maintain some reasonable gaming options. We've had a PS3 taking up space, making fan-noise, and requiring an extra set of controllers since forever. The favourite PS3 titles we could buy on Steam are: Ibb & Obb, Shooter, Portal. I seem to have a tiny bit of frustration making the PS4 controllers (we have dedicated to Apple TV) work with some Steam games, but it is only about on-par with changing TV inputs. Just something a parent needs to help young kids with. But Portal 2, perhaps being a "newer" title, has no controller issues at all. And it is an amazing game, etc. Here's some remaining questions I have... - ATV <-> PC networks speeds (according to Steam Link) support 100MB/s, but I have gigabit networking (and 4K ATV) and switches. Can anyone confirm Steam Link can test beyond 100MB/s? - Family multiplayer games like Ibb & Obb, and Shooter (and Geometry Wars which was already an ATV title) which you'd recommend? - Anyone used a typing tutorial game for Apple TV (we have an Apple TV keyboard)? I imagine this will cause grief because kid might constantly be "exiting" the game accidentally? Would be happy with an ATV title for this too. This post might be crazy obvious to everyone else. I suspect I'm the last person on Earth to try Steam Link. But it really solved a lot of (simple) gaming needs for us. Likely, this saved us ever buying a PS4 or PS5. It did help that I'd bought these titles years ago, so there was minimal cost with the transition. (No Steam copy of Shooter Ultimate but that only cost $10.) [link] [comments]  |

The LG 65NANO866NA (2020) has internal TV speakers with Dolby Atmos, but it does not work. In the settings of the Apple TV 4K Dolby Atmos is turned on, but if I play a Dolby Atmos compatible movie and Netflix there is no sound. Does anyone have the same problem, and is there a solution. I love it. Recently I had a new projector that works with an hdmi connection. Problem is : The appletv sound is now output directly to the very bad sound system of the video projector. I bought this DAC to get the sound with an optical cable : https://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B07T183LHH/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 This does not work: the sound is still going through HDMI. I cannot use the optical sound output in the settings. Question :

| Getting Apple TV 4K to sleep when powering off the TV with TV remote - Sony X900 Posted: 30 Jul 2020 09:39 AM PDT I have seen a lot of posts about trying to get the Sony TV power on and off with the Siri remote. That works fine for me. I'm trying to get the opposite to work and I thought CEC should do this. I'm able to use the Sony TV remote to do most things on the Apple TV that the Siri remote does... just missing the bluetooth menu button, trackpad, and mic. And it also does a lot of stuff the Siri remote can't like numbers, channel up/down, colored function keys, etc. It will also wake up the ATV4K when I turn on the TV. What it is not doing is putting the ATV4K to sleep after I turn off the TV. So if I hit power while something is streaming, then it will just keep streaming. If I use a cheap universal remote I have to do this it seems to work fine, but not doing it with the Sony remote. Anyone with a Sony X900F (or other Sony) gotten this to work care to share settings on the TV and ATV4K? [link] [comments]  |

Was considering getting it to make a TV gifted to me "smart" and found a 3rd gen for $50. Do the older generations of Apple TV get phased out similar to the iPhones, iPad etc.? Posted: 30 Jul 2020 04:48 AM PDT I'm loving my ATV4K and building my 4K library but my only gripe is that some movies I want are only available on the U.S Itunes store (i'm UK based) & I would love to be able to purchase them Would it be possible to for me to create another apple id and have that serve what I need for the U.S store and just switch between them as I assume they don't show up in both library's?
