Posted: 06 Jul 2020 11:29 PM PDT I have an early 2014 13" MBA. Since the RAM on these is soldered on and cannot be replaced/upgraded, is it possible to replace the entire logic board with the higher RAM one? [link] [comments]

Macbook Pro 2020 running really hot? Posted: 06 Jul 2020 09:30 PM PDT So I got the base 2020 MBP yesterday. I opened it up and got it set up but it got really hot (made sense because I was installing a bunch of applications). But today the machine is also still running pretty hot. I was only on firefox + spotify and the temp went to 70C, 7200RPM and the area between the touchbar and bottom of the screen got burning hot. This is my first Mac and I never had any heating issues with previous machines, so is the machine just 'breaking in'? If so how long until it becomes normal? What should I try to keep the room temperature at for optimal usage? And if this turns out to be an issue, should I exchange this MBP for another? I heard that you have 14 days to do so which gives me around 11 days as of writing this. [link] [comments]
How do I pinch/zoom on finder icons to make them bigger? Posted: 06 Jul 2020 08:35 PM PDT On my 2017 macbook air I am unable to pinch and zoom on the desktop or finder to make icons bigger or smaller. I was able to do this on my 2009 macbook pro, does anyone know how I can enable this on my current macbook? [link] [comments]
Stop syncing photos from iPhone Posted: 06 Jul 2020 09:56 PM PDT I need help please! How do I prevent my Macbook Pro from syncing photos from my iPhone? I want my photos to backup on my iCloud, but not on my computer's storage. [link] [comments]
Need help picking a Macbook Pro (13inch vs 16inch) Posted: 06 Jul 2020 09:16 PM PDT Hi all, I am in the market for a Macbook Pro and I am having trouble deciding between the 2020 13 inch (10th gen i5, 16gb ram etc.) or the base model 16 inch Macbook pro. The price difference between the two is about $300-$400 and if I go with the 13 inch, I will also receive free airpods. I don't need all of the power that the 16 inch offers but after testing both laptops in store- I definitely preferred the size of the 16 inch as it was more comfortable on my eyes. The bigger screen would be the main reason for me buying it but I am hesitant to pull the trigger considering the price and potential issues regarding gpu... Would you recommend the 13 inch with airpods or go with 16 inch? If you have the 16 inch, would you say that the bigger screen real estate was really worth the extra money? Thank you in advance for your help! [link] [comments]
Posted: 06 Jul 2020 03:07 PM PDT Apple currently has a deal that gives students buying a new MacBook/Ipad a discount as well as a free pair of AirPods. Does anyone know how long this deal is supposed to last? I'm planning on getting a new MacBook with this deal but I can find any timeline for it. Thanks! [link] [comments]

MacBook Pro 2017 first charger/USB port not working Posted: 06 Jul 2020 08:53 PM PDT Hi! So I bought this Mac less than a year ago, no water damage and the first port has stopped working. This is the one with two ports so I still have one that works but the Apple store said it's a logic board problem and will cost 600$ to repair. I'm afraid that if it is a logic board issue the mac will stop working but I don't want to pay that much. Anyone have any advice or suggestions? Thank you! [link] [comments]
macbook air 2020 users, i need your feedback! <3 Posted: 06 Jul 2020 12:27 PM PDT what do you regularly use your mba for? also, how does it work?: ex fan kicking in, heats up, lags, etc. i'm going to buy one this coming saturday and i'd like to somewhat prepare myself and set my expectations so i don't freak out for something that is probably normal or that happens to others. Is it normal for the battery to drop even when connected to a power supply? Posted: 06 Jul 2020 07:45 PM PDT I'm new to Macbook Pro 2020, been noticing this annoyance. Somehow I managed to make it charge again by doing a system reset holding the power button for over 10 seconds. Is this normal or should I be concerned? I don't remember any of this weird behavior with the old MacBook air model I used many years ago. Needless to say, I bought mine from the official store and it is using the same power adapter it came with. edit: it dropped to 89% and started charging again by itself. What is this I don't even.. Installing a ssd on a late 2012 MacBook Posted: 06 Jul 2020 01:15 PM PDT Hi guys I just got the battery of my MacBook from late/mid 2012 replaced and thought I'd get a new ssd installés as well I got the ssd in the picture which would roughly multiply my macbook's memory by 10. The problem is that I can't seem to find an adapter for it. Has anyone run into such a problem ? I tried looking online and most of the solutions were just describing how to remove the ssd. This is how my Mac looks if this helps. https://i.imgur.com/rTuOkfG.jpg Alternatively has anyone tried this and succeed? If so would you be so kind to explain how ? Thanks a lot ! A little MacBook Pro help please Posted: 06 Jul 2020 12:39 PM PDT MacBook Pro advise Hi guys. I'm currently using an 8 year old desktop PC for my main computer. Decided for numerous reasons I'd like to go to a laptop and MacBook Pro 16" with 32gb Ram and the upgraded graphics card is what I'll be going for. Works out to about £3300, which I'll be purchasing at the end of the month. The few questions I have are; I've heard a lot about the new ARM machines, lots of completely opposite opinions, the 16" would be next year as the 13" is the end of this year, the first of any generation of hardware should be skipped, ARM is revolutionary, after wading through all this I've decided that I could be constantly 'chasing the grail' with tech and that if I want one now, I should just get one now. Unless I'm completely missing something? Also. I currently use windows 10 on my pc. I've had iPhones for like 10 years, have an Apple Watch and a HomePod so I'm used to the Apple way. Currently using iTunes on my desktop as a base for all these things, I intend to move to using the new MacBook as my hub. Will I be able to move my entire iTunes music library (some old cd imports, some old mp3, then subscribed to Apple Music so there's a mixture of that too) over to the new Music app on catalina? Or will it all automatically sync as it's already on my phone? Finally are there any other bits of advice for someone moving from windows to MacBook? Thanks guys! [link] [comments]

Macbook Air 2017 Wifi says No Hardware installed Posted: 06 Jul 2020 04:06 AM PDT So I am having this problem for the last two weeks and usually my wifi works after restarting my computer. I have restarted my computer and have done a SMC and PRAM reset. Has anyone experienced this issue before? [link] [comments]
iMessage notification on Macbook preventing iPhone and Apple Watch from alerting Posted: 06 Jul 2020 02:41 PM PDT When I have my macbook message app active notifications only come to the mac and not to iphone or watch. I would prefer they all alert or disable mac so iphone and watch work. I tend to ignore notifications on the mac because they display so briefly. I can't find any setting in message preferences to turn off notifications. Is there a way to fix this issue? [link] [comments]
What's the cost to get a 2017 13 macbook pro screen replaced? Posted: 06 Jul 2020 01:48 PM PDT So yesterday my screen died on me and now I literally can't use it. How much does screen replacement cost? [link] [comments]
Late 2013 Macbook Pro Retina Wifi Card Issue Posted: 06 Jul 2020 12:53 PM PDT Hi, I have a 2013 retina macbook running catalina with what I think is a defective wifi card. The wifi works intermittently, and sometimes when it cuts out it will cause the computer to freeze or shut off. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience like this. I'm thinking of getting a new wifi card, wanted to see if anyone has any insight to other problems it could be. [link] [comments]
MacBook 12" (2017): Question Mark Folder Almost Always After Charging Posted: 06 Jul 2020 12:32 PM PDT Hi, my MacBook 12" (2017) started to crash in a weird way shortly after the warranty period was over. These crashes always occur during or more frequently shortly after charging. If it happens, the MacBook only displays a folder with a question mark. After trying a few reboots it will eventually work again and continue to do so reliably until it is charged again. If I put it in recovery mode in between the boot failures, it will show no possible boot option, however, as I said, eventually it will boot again. I don't think a crash ever happened while it was running, most of the time the MacBook is closed while charging and crashes if opened or it will crash after it goes to sleep and is woken up again but only if it has recently been charged. Here's some additional information:
Here's what I tried:
Do you have any idea what I could do? Thanks in advance. [link] [comments]
Should I upgrade my MacBook pro 13 2020 ram from 8 gb to 16gb? Posted: 06 Jul 2020 07:56 AM PDT I am planning on getting a MacBook 13 inch 2020 base model and I am wondering if I should upgrade the ram from 8gb to 16 gb for daily web browsing and occasional logic pro use. Would it help for longevity or smoothness? [link] [comments]
Are any of the upgrades on a 16” MacBook Pro worth it for legal work? Posted: 06 Jul 2020 07:35 AM PDT Headlines says it all, really. My 2010 MacBook has finally crapped out, and I got an allowance to get a new computer. I was thinking the new "16 MacBook Pro would do the trick. My work consists of online research, many many zoom calls, as well as drafting and reviewing documents, really no video or photo editing. This is also my personal laptop, and I don't really do much on it outside more work; but I'd like to have the option to maybe run a flight simulator (X-plane) on it one day. The only couple upgrades I figured would be worth are: (1) 1TB storage upgrade, and (2) better graphics card. The graphics card since I'd like to run x-plane on it, eventually; but mostly since I dock my laptop at home to 3-external displays, and would like those to run as smooth as possible. My current — albeit old af — MacBook has issues booting them all up at the same time, though once it does it's pretty seamless. Thanks for y'all's advice! [link] [comments]
Posted: 06 Jul 2020 05:20 AM PDT Why is macbook not grounded? The electric shock it gives will relly annoy most of the people. Is there a real reason or is it just a apple's design philosophy? I hate the electric shock too much, I had to diy a ground connector. pic: http://imgur.com/gallery/Zd5wFNA if the link doesn't work; try: http://imgur.com/gallery/2D5O4Ew [link] [comments]
Way to wipe data without compromising Microsoft Office Posted: 06 Jul 2020 06:43 AM PDT Hello, I'm thinking of giving away my macbook to my sibling and not sure what's the best way to wipe my data. I would love to keep Microsoft Office for them to use, but after some googling, it seems like it's impossible unless I still have the activation key. Could anyone suggest me a way to wipe my data but still keeping Microsoft Office, say maybe deleting files one by one manually? [link] [comments] |
