Is it safe charging from a thunderbolt dock? Posted: 30 Jul 2020 08:59 PM PDT I've seen far too many fried MacBooks on Louis Rossman's channel and all of them because the owner was using a third party charger. Is it safe plugging a dock the the outlet and charging a MacBook with that? [link] [comments]
Stop Autosaving Photos from iMessage Posted: 30 Jul 2020 11:38 PM PDT Hello, I own a Macbook Pro (13 in.). How I can stop autosaving photos from iMessage to my Mac? It's annoying. [link] [comments]

MacBook Pro 16" Thunderbolt 3 to Monitor Posted: 30 Jul 2020 09:07 PM PDT Does anybody know if the charging cable (Thunderbolt 3) that comes with the MacBook pro will work on my monitor for video output? My monitor has a USB-C port. [link] [comments]
Posted: 30 Jul 2020 08:42 PM PDT I just got the new air in space grey and what case looks good? No specific brand, im just asking for color since ill just buy the generic ones online. Black looks good but might clash with space grey - used a black for my old air and it looks fine because the air is silver. Cause space grey is like in the middle of silver and black. Or its just me. Considering clear as well to show off the color BUT its heavy, owned one for my old air as well, looks nice but its heavy (didnt affect the hinges however) Also, is a case recommended? I used my air naked when i first bought it and had an on-off relationship with my cases haha. (I do consider what some people say about the case - it sometimes affects the mac) (but i dont blame cases on what happened to my mac - logicboard failure) [link] [comments]
I almost never shut my laptop down completely. Could this be harmful to it? Posted: 30 Jul 2020 08:41 PM PDT Hopefully this sub can help. I just had this discussion with my boyfriend. He, apparently, shuts his laptop down completely every night while it charges. I, on the other hand, practically never shut my laptop down intentionally. Instead, I just shut it and put it on the charger at night. He thinks this could harm my battery life. Might this practice have any noticeable effect on my battery life? Is it okay to continue doing? I have a 2017 Macbook (the 12") if it matters. [link] [comments]

secure folder that only I can access?? Posted: 30 Jul 2020 07:05 PM PDT Is it possible to create a folder to save important documents, which is protected against access through the Internet or other applications, such as antivirus? In other words, a folder that only I can access files through a password, and that is not accessible by the Internet or antivirus or other users. Thank you!! [link] [comments]
Is there a way to turn off 2 out of the 3 displays connected to my macbook? Posted: 30 Jul 2020 06:08 PM PDT I have a monitor, and TV connected to my macbook. I usually stream stuff on the TV, but my macbook and extended monitor stays on. I want to turn off the monitor and macbook display while I stream on my TV. Is this possible? [link] [comments]
This has to be the most awful subreddit Posted: 30 Jul 2020 09:33 PM PDT I don't understand why there are actual good posts on /macbook with information, and yet on my feed all I see is people posting photos their new macbook. 2019 Macbook Pro battery amperage issue. Posted: 30 Jul 2020 04:35 PM PDT I just picked up a 2019 Macbook pro 13 inch. When the battery is fully charged and still on AC power, the battery amperage will go negative and the battery will start to drain, while still on AC power. I've read some things on the internet that say this is normal? I let it get down to 90% before resetting the SMC which solves the issue and makes the battery charge again. Only reason i'm so concerned is because my 2012 retina never ever did this. Any input is appreciated, thanks [link] [comments]
Paying for hardware cleaning on MacBook Pro 2016? Posted: 30 Jul 2020 04:03 PM PDT I took my MacBook Pro 2016 into an authorized Apple repair shop the other day because the screen had the backlight issue described here. The repair shop contacted me today to say that the screen meets the criteria and they have ordered a replacement screen to be delivered next week. The also wrote up a quote for me to perform maintenance on the laptop. They only mentioned cleaning dust and replacing the thermal paste. I have asked what else they would do and am waiting to hear back, but I don't think there is much else to it. Quote was for $150. The repair shop has very good reviews from people and they have been professional and punctual in my dealings with them, but is this a money grab by them? Should my MacBook be cleaned in the first place (never really thought of it before) and, if so, should I be willing to pay $150 for someone to actually do it? [link] [comments]

Why did my 2017 12" Retina MB go into kernel panic? Posted: 30 Jul 2020 11:45 AM PDT I was just browsing using safari, had word, notes, chrome and maybe some other light apps open in the background but nothing heavy. Suddenly my mac shutdown and restarted with the "restarted because of a problem" message. I've definitely put this macbook into much more stress so I'm lost. It's a two year old 12 inch Macbook. I just booted pressing D and the report says No problems were found, code ADP0000. The crash report is as follows; I don't know how to interpret it. Chrome on Mac Pro crashes when signing into email, stripe etc Posted: 30 Jul 2020 11:42 AM PDT Chrome totally crashes and closes when trying to sign in to email, stripe etc I have tried uninstalling all extensions, restarting the computer and uninstalling chrome many times. I have come to the conclusion this only happens when I'm signed into a synced email profile and not when I'm using guest. I'm not sure how to fix it and I'm at a loss now after spending about 4 hours on it. I can only sign in to email etc when I'm signed in as guest on chrome. If anyone has any advice or knowledge would greatly appreciate any new tips. Regards [link] [comments]

I tried to reset my mac to factory settings and now it says theres no disk to download OS X onto. Posted: 30 Jul 2020 11:31 AM PDT I followed the online directions id thought and cleared what i was supposed to and now when i try to redownload mac OS it says "choose the disk to download mac OS X onto" and theres no options. Apple support was no hekp at all and seemed to just want to get me out of their hair and tried to send me to a repairman before answering any questions, not paying attention to much of anything i said. Ive reset my laptop before and last time i had the same problem but someone suggested something that ended up working without taking it somewhere. [link] [comments]
Laptop for Browsing/YouTube/ light office work?? Posted: 30 Jul 2020 11:21 AM PDT Hi guys I have been searching for a perfect laptop for a long time but still confused My perf laptop would be which could last me few years easily without any trouble or repairs like 5+ years atleast. What I would use the laptop for? Web browsing Watching YouTube/ Netflix Very light photo and video editing for personal use Light office work like excel and learning online courses No high end gaming because mainly I'll be buying ps5 later and currently have ps4 So someone pls recommend me something good and durable? My brother is suggesting me MacBook Air 256gb :8 gb ram model I have never used a MacBook before at all but I use an iPhone I don't know about the OS much I have always used windows before Will I be able to do light multitasking like YouTube / excel and web browsing at same time ?? Without any issues or heating And also I don't wanna go for the 512gb variant as it quite an increase in price for me but I am concerned that 256 gb won't even last for a long time , if I use a portable hdd would that help me? And also the features I love about MacBook will be I heard great keyboard / best touchpad / display / light weight/ premium / long battery Or do you guys think should I opt for a alternative windows laptop instead of MacBook?? What I think plus in windows will be similar OS to me/ better space and ram option in price range But cons would be decent keyboard and touchpad and usually not great build quality and thin What do you guys recommend???? Ordered my first macbook, just thinking out loud, maybe looking for input Posted: 30 Jul 2020 07:13 AM PDT I ordered my first macbook/mac computer. It should be here in a few days. I'm really excited about it, and my aim is to make it my productivity center for writing and making music with fl studio (or maybe I'm finally going to try logic!). I have a huge beastly gaming desktop, but yeah it's basically a distraction machine. I'm just trying to figure out where this macbook is going to physically fit into my life. I only have so much room on my computer desk, including a single ultrawide monitor hooked up to my desktop. While I plan to often be using my macbook in my living room with my fiance on the couch using her laptop, I was thinking that if I plan on making music on it, I should use an external monitor and mouse too, which would mean using it at the desk sometimes, but my pc is hooked up to that monitor, and I don't know if there's room to put another smaller monitor on there for the macbook. And if I did get a monitor for it, would I want an Apple monitor? I dunno. Are there any other people in my situation on this board? What's your setup look like? How do you manage things and divvy up tasks between your mackbook and your desktop? [link] [comments]
Posted: 30 Jul 2020 08:49 AM PDT I have a 4-port self-powered (doesn't have an external power supply) USB hub that is connected to my Macbook. In that hub, I have a mouse and a USB lamp connected. Will this setup harm or fry the circuitry of my Macbook? Even when I add more devices to the hub? Thanks and I hope everyone to be safe. [link] [comments]
Heading to uni but I need some help in the tech department Posted: 30 Jul 2020 08:13 AM PDT Hi! I'm actually currently enrolled online for online classes at my uni and im looking for new tech to help me. I actually can't decide in choosing either an iPad pro or the 2020 13' Macbook pro. I currently already have a laptop (that isnt a macbook sorry), but i wanted to know what are the pros and cons of either before I make my purchase. If anyone could help me in my decision that would be great! Edited: I would usually be taking down notes while the lecture is going on via zoom so multitasking is important [link] [comments]
Posted: 30 Jul 2020 07:24 AM PDT Hi guys, I'm currently shopping for a laptop since school will mostly be online this year. I heard that for a film student (like me), a MacBook would be a better choice over a PC for video editing. I don't know what to choose between an upgraded MacBook Air (cheaper) or a MacBook Pro. Also, how much RAM do you think I would need? What processor is acceptable (i5 or i7)? Thank you🙏 [link] [comments] |
