What are some of your ‘can’t live without’ apps?

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 01:17 AM PDT

I recently discovered Notion and can't believe I've gone so long without it. It's helped increase my productivity and organisation with work related tasks.

To everyone unable to see a 4K resolution option on YouTube with the iOS 14 Beta

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 01:55 AM PDT

Try using the app signed out. Worked for me on my iPad Pro 12.9 using Public Beta 3. Curiously, using the app signed in or even in incognito mode didn't work, but signing out completely did. Was able to test using 4K videos (MKBHD and LTT). Curious to know if it's just me or if this seems to work for everyone.

    IOS personal safety app idea

    Hi people of Reddit,
We are currently in the early stages of building a safety app that will help users who feel unsafe while alone in public.
While there are a few apps that allow for users to covertly record incidents, as well as send out alarms to friends, we're looking to develop an app that continuously backs up video recordings.
To explain, let's use the idea of a thief taking a phone from a user of the app, for example:
Say this thief destroys or turns off a phone they have stolen, in order to prevent evidence of their thieving from existing.
With our app, the recording up until the second of disruption has already been uploaded to a secure server.
This is an additional level of security that we think can make a true difference.
Vitally, throughout our preliminary research, we have not yet found a pre-existing app that has this additional level of security as a feature.
We are curious to know whether any other apps out there do indeed offer this live and continuous video back-up as a feature, along with the ability to begin recording discreetly, alert advocates, and capture video quietly.
Of course with the app industry as it is, there's every chance there does exist an app that has slipped us by, and does contain all these functions.
Any guidance on whether or not there are similar apps not already covered in the attached table would be much appreciated.
    Thanks :)

Those of you that use different podcast apps than the stock player, how come?

I see a lot of different podcast apps out there, just wondering what people like about them that would move them past the stock app.

What about a swipe gesture to inline replies on iMessage on iOS 14?

    Posted: 27 Jul 2020 03:23 PM PDT

Yeah, I'm more used to replies on WhatsApp for example, but as an iMessage fan a swipe gesture to write a inline reply would be great in the final version (swipe to right anyone?)

What kind of access do installed Profiles/work/school Accounts have on my personal iPhone?

    Posted: 27 Jul 2020 09:45 AM PDT

So I added my educational institution's Exchange account to my personal phone so that I could read emails and see my calendar events and whatnot. Apparently, this also gives them access to changing certain settings (i.e. they limit Auto-lock to a maximum of 5 minutes instead of never, they turned on Erase Data after 8 failed passcode attempts and you can't turn this off manually, etc.). All of this unwanted tinkering with my personal settings aside, do they actually have access to what I do on my phone? As in, my web history, data on how I use it, my personal text messages, etc. I only came to know that it had changed my settings after searching online and finding out that they were changed due to the institutional account that I added on my phone. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

How smooth is 60hz to your eyes?

    Posted: 27 Jul 2020 10:50 PM PDT

The iphone 12 pro will not be getting 120hz so we're stuck with 60hz for another year. Is this an issue for you? Are you satisfied with 60hz or does it look very choppy to you. It looks super bad to my eyes because i've been using an ipad pro and galaxy s20 for months, both of which are 120hz. And i recently got a brand new iphone 8 from apple.

Is there any app that limits how many times you can open a certain application in a day?

    Posted: 27 Jul 2020 03:59 PM PDT

I'm trying to limit my use of social media, and the time limit option in iOS surely helps, but is there any app on the app store that, for instance, deactivates Twitter if I open it more than five times in a day?

App crashing... are there logs that can help me find out why? This is for multiple devices

    Posted: 27 Jul 2020 06:40 PM PDT

Hi All- Any place to check why an app might be crashing? we deploy thousands of iOS devices and just had an app start crashing on launch (MS Teams) for a few hundred people. We use WorkspaceOne (Airwatch) for device management but cant find anything in there.

Any place to check why an app might be crashing? Im trying to find out if a specific combo of version of iOS and the app itself are to blame but a log file would be nice.

    Exercising and health

    Posted: 27 Jul 2020 05:32 PM PDT

The health app can already pull data from a variety of sources, the phone, iwatch, fitbit and others once paired. Why then can we not compete with our friends irregardless of the source via a connection with in health (assuming iphone users only obviously). This way we could challenge ourselves and work together to gain goals and become healthier together.

I don’t like the fact that Apple is forcefully making 3D Touch more useless on older devices.

    Posted: 27 Jul 2020 03:58 PM PDT

I understand that the newer devices do not have it and it's a choice Apple has decided to take. But it's really not cool that Apple has to keep removing 3D Touch features on the older device, c'mon I really love 3D touch and I don't want to be forced to use Haptic Touch features, when my iPhone clearly come with the 3D Touch technology.
