What apps do you guys use as a timer due to the lack of a native solution? Posted: 07 Jun 2020 01:40 PM PDT Evening everyone, Among the odd design choices Apple has made in their products and software over the years, the exclusion of a native clock & timer app in macOS ranks right up there with the exclusion of a calculator app for the iPad. Now, fortunately, this has left the door wide open for developers to come in and present their own alternatives. Which of these apps do you guys use and recommend the most? [link] [comments]
iTunes library to new computer-- Apple Music and duplicates Posted: 07 Jun 2020 09:49 PM PDT Hi all, hope you are doing well and safe. Got a new macbook to replace my dying one and I really like it. The only thing I can't wrap my head around is trying to get my old iTunes library into this new Catalina format. I put all my music in the media folder and it did appear in my iTunes, in either duplicate or sometimes triplicate. It used to be a very easy swap, I actually found it so annoying to look at I just deleted my entire music catalog off the new computer for the time being (have it on a back up drive) Any tips or tricks for getting a seamless library again? Has Catalina fixed the screen glitch problem? Posted: 08 Jun 2020 01:40 AM PDT I'm on Mojave and I'm having a horizontal glitch at the bottom of the screen. I realized this has something to do with True Tone or Auto Brightness turned on. I cannot use both because of this glitch and I'd like to know if Catalina fixed this issue. [link] [comments]
What’s the best archiver for MacOS? Posted: 08 Jun 2020 12:02 AM PDT Hello all, This is my first post, so I hope I'm not doing anything wrong. I'm a Windows user and I use Winrar to extract multiple files on a queue. The problem is that I couldn't find a single app or software that can extract multiple rar files without issues. The best one I found was better zip but when I try to do a batch extraction on a queue, it gets really really really slow. I have to do it one by one. What's the best rar and zip extractor for MacOS that can do what Winrar and 7-zip can? Thanks. [link] [comments]

Question: [10.14] Spaces all re-allocate to desktop 1 after restart, how can I keep my order? Posted: 08 Jun 2020 01:29 AM PDT I use an external monitor on my iMac, currently running MacOS 10.14. When I order some of my apps and windows in different desktops everything works fine until restarting the iMac. After every restart, all apps and windows are re-allocated to desktop 1. The other desktops I created are still there but they're empty. I can't find anything in the setting that keeps this from happening. Is there a solution I'm missing? Thanks in advance for all help! Adblockers with an 'element picker' feature Posted: 07 Jun 2020 08:45 PM PDT Unsure of the proper name for this sorry, but 'element picker' is the uBlock Origin name for it. It's just a way to block specific elements of a page by hovering & selecting them. Roadblock's Visual Tool is seemingly the same feature, but does AdGuard or any other popular blocker have this feature as well? [link] [comments]

FaceTime incorrectly inputting call logs Posted: 07 Jun 2020 01:26 PM PDT It's been happening for several months now. I would get off a FaceTime call with eg. Jeff, and when I would go back on the app. The call log would register my call with Jeff under the contact profile of someone else. It happens randomly and replaces it with the same bunch of contacts. When I would click on the ⓘ button to reveal the full contact details, it gives a different contact. Any way to sort the bug out? It's been a few updates since it started and nothing really changed. [link] [comments]
Posted: 07 Jun 2020 07:16 PM PDT Hi, I have a 2013 iMac and using www.fast.com, my internet speed shows ~20Mpbs. My roommate has the exact same computer one room over, closer to the router, and he gets 150+Mpbs from the same website. I thought maybe he was getting better internet speeds than me because he was one room closer to the router so I've tried internet extenders. My computer connects to the extender wifi but my internet speed is cut in half, ~10Mbps. I thought it is supposed to get faster?! Can anyone give me any tips or leads on solutions to make my internet faster? Thanks! [link] [comments]

Does anyone know how to remove pictures from the recent section for playlists images? Posted: 07 Jun 2020 03:46 PM PDT Google has brought me no help, I had a playlist years ago, and I set the picture for that playlist to someone's face, the playlist no longer exists, and the person is out of my life, but I get the constant reminder of their existence every time I make a playlist and their face shows up as a recent picture I've used for a playlist image, how can I delete those so the image no longer shows up? Any way to force Office/Outlook to use Mac's text replacement? Posted: 07 Jun 2020 07:53 AM PDT Office 365/Outlook for Mac (v. 16) seems to override the text replacement (System Preferences → Keyboard → Text) which is super annoying because I have about a hundred shortcuts set up in there that I use pretty regularly in e-mails. There are many threads on Apple and Microsoft support pages acknowledging this (so it's not just me), but no solutions that I've found. Does anyone here know if there is a way to disable this "feature" and force Microsoft applications to use the system text replacements like every other app does? [link] [comments]

Posted: 07 Jun 2020 11:45 AM PDT I've been using Fantastical 1 for years, but it's not working too well lately given it's not supported anymore. Can anyone recommend a replacement app which lets me see a small calendar dropdown on the menu and also lets me add events/reminders using natural language? I found a few menu bar calendar apps, but nothing that also lets me add reminders and events (except the latest Fantastical, but I don't want a subscription app) [link] [comments]
Nifty Safari Keyboard Shortcut for "Duplicate Tab" (useful feature!) Posted: 07 Jun 2020 10:46 AM PDT As I was playing around in Safari (I'm new to macOS), I noticed that there's a useful command: Menu Bar > Window > Duplicate Tab. Doing so does exactly what you'd expect: opens a new tab with he same page you're on. Also, I noticed it even opens to the exact part of the page you are on. Sweet! [Edit: opening to exact part of page seems to work on most webpages; not all.] I'm surprised there is no default keyboard shortcut for this. I would expect ⌘D to do so, but that shortcut is actually for "Add Bookmark..." (with ⇧⌘D adding the page to your Reading List). To remedy this, I simply created two keyboard shortcuts (but you can create any shortcut that works for you):
I find this to make most sense for my use, especially since I don't really use the Reading List. You can look up how to create keyboard shortcuts here.) What do you guys think? [link] [comments]
