The Apple Pencil (2nd gen) has so much potential, but it’s wasted.

    Posted: 05 Jun 2020 02:11 AM PDT

I've been using the apple pencil for a bit more than a year and I think, just like the shortcuts on the keyboard adapt to each app you're using, the apple pencil could do that. There is two areas on the pen where you can tap so here's some ideas so it can be used as a remote :

    • Netflix+Youtube : Rewind/Forward or lower/raise volume.
    • Spotify : Previous/Next track.
    • Camera : Take a picture from a distance. (so the iPad could be used on a tripod and you wouldn't need to keep coming back to touch the screen to take a picture).
    • Gallery : Previous/Next picture.
    • iMovie : While editing, it could be used like the equivalent of the space bar (tapping would either stop or resume the video).
    • Powerpoint/Key Note : (While on viewing mode only) previous/next slide.

It could be adapted to other apps that don't support the apple pencil as a drawing/taking notes type of tool.

Can you use App Store without a credit card?

    Posted: 05 Jun 2020 06:25 AM PDT

Hi. I'm planning to buy the new iPad Pro (2020). I have never owned an Apple product before. Hence my question: Can you use the App Store to download free apps to your iPad without your credit card? I don't have a credit card and I'd like to download free apps from the App Store. And if not, then can I use an Apple Store gift card instead?

I'd like to put an emphasis on the fact that I'm talking about the free apps, not the paid ones.

    Thanks.

Safe to browse Safari on iPad 3?

    Posted: 05 Jun 2020 02:56 PM PDT

I have an old iPad 3 that my company gave me many moons ago. It can no longer download any programs since it can't handle the latest iOS. That said, Safari still works.

I know, though, that the version of Safari that's on it probably hasn't been updated for years. Is it safe to browse on it, or do I expose myself to security risks by doing so?

Sub-question, if I do browse on it, is there certain types of webpages (e.g., those not requiring me to enter a password) that are safe and certain types (e.g., those requiring login credentials) that are unsafe?

Review of the Logitech Combo Touch

    Posted: 05 Jun 2020 05:58 AM PDT

Review of the Logitech Combo touch

This is my review of the Logitech combo touch, basically an surface type cover for the iPad 7, iPad Air 3 and the iPad Pro 10.5. I am using an iPad Air 3 and the German version of the keyboard.

    Pros of the Keyboard

    • Function Keys work properly and help with workflow (includes the search function of the homescreen in any app)
    • I like typing on it
    • The Material feels good
    • The Trackpad works great and all gestures work
    • It has space to put your pencil

    Cons of the keyboard

    • It is pretty heavy (1.1 kg)
    • The case + keyboard are very thick (as thick as AirPods)

So if anyone has questions about the keyboard, feel free to ask

    Apple Pencil 1

    Posted: 05 Jun 2020 10:14 AM PDT

I quite like my Apple Pencil 1, though it is certainly overpriced with the dreaded apple tax. The two things I wish would change about it are not having to plug it into either the adaptor included in the box or into the iPad, as well as it all being one piece rather than having a lid that could potentially fall off or be lost. I don't know if they would ever revise it, or just move on to a 3rd gen, but that's what I'd like.

Notetaking app that syncs(!) without iCloud

    Posted: 05 Jun 2020 06:49 AM PDT

    Hi there,

my company blocks iCloud on my (companies) iPhone/iPad. I'm looking for a possiblity to use OneDrive or DropBox (both are okay with the company, don't ask me why!). I personally love Noteability the most, but Noteability, Noteshelf and Goodnotes don't seem to have a function like that. I see that I could backup... but not "sync". Any of you having an idea? OneNote is working at the company but kind of sucks (for me).

    How have you solved that?

    Cheers

    Posted: 05 Jun 2020 05:05 AM PDT

I want to know if it's possible to use a male lightning to usb c male cable and get an iPad air 2 to mirror onto a usb c monitor. I also want to know if there is any delay between the iPad and the monitor.

PDF Reader with Two-Way Sync in GDrive & access Shared Drives

    Posted: 05 Jun 2020 08:15 AM PDT

Title says it. And if anyone could point to one (just one) PDF reader that has two-way sync and can access Shared Drives on Google Drive. Not shared folders but Shared Drives. (Shared Drives can only be acquired through G Suite, I guess, like those who use .edu emails)

I've been looking all over but I haven't found one yet. PDFelement and PDF Expert have two-way sync but they can't access the Shared Drives just yet :(

Or if there's no app that can do that yet, can anybody teach what would be a better alternative (like if there's a way that a folder can be both in My Drive and Shared Drive) or something like that. Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone and stay safe!

I'm a lifelong Android user who has ordered an iPad to get a taste of the other side. What do I need to know/what am I going to hate?

If I like it enough, my next phone might have an Apple logo on the back.

Why is iPad so much cheaper as compared to it's other varients?

    Posted: 04 Jun 2020 09:08 PM PDT

Why is "iPad" so much cheaper than the "ipad pro", "ipad air" and even the smaller "ipad mini"?

I'm getting myself an iPad. This will be my first iPad ever(and first Apple product!). But the price difference is so huge that it doesn't make sense to me to even consider the other 3 variants.

May be because the processor is a bit less powerful.. But how much does that really matter?

My purpose is to use apps like procreate and geoshred.

Trying to get more responsible with my money. Is there any financing app you’d recommend for the iPad?

And I'm a student so rather inexpensive solutions would be much appreciated.

So I uhh... stepped on my Magic Keyboard.

    Posted: 05 Jun 2020 09:27 AM PDT

Yeah. I know what you're thinking. This guy... You probably want to kill me. I just pissed on the modern art exhibit. Shit on your new car. Came in your grandmother. It's alright though - I want to kill me too. Here's how it happened. I was on a FaceTime call, and took the iPad off of the keyboard (2018, 11 inch, Silver Base Model) and left it on my bed, (open) which is currently just a mattress on the ground, to walk to another room in the apartment. Then, I walked back to go outside, holding the iPad, talking to the human on the screen, stepping on my bed as I passed. I weigh 170 lbs, size 14 feet. I stepped right on the keys. Bada bing, bada bang, bada broken accessory, right? NO, actually. On a soft bit of foam so there was nothing to keep it from bending, shifting my entire weight onto the keyboard, it only bent a little! Enough to bug me, but after a day of massaging it back and feeding it chocolate to let it know I was sorry, it's basically fine! Opens and closes properly, you can't notice any issues unless you're looking for them, all the keys, trackpad, port, hinge - everything is normal still! Main bend point is where the emoji button thing meets the palm rest, but it's really so minor I can't notice it while using it. I think everyone with an iPad Pro and your familiar grandmother knows that it's a iPad that likes to bend. Mine is still fine. But at least now, I have a lot more confidence in the Magic Keyboard's ability to protect my iPad, and I encourage those with a Brydge or Logitech keyboard to try to walk on it so we can laugh at you when it fails. I actually typed this whole thing on my war torn Magic Keyboard.

Thanks Apple, I'll sorta forgive you now for making the actual iPad out of Jony Ive's premium select diamond machined jello.
