Posted: 07 Jun 2020 07:14 PM PDT Hi, I have a 2013 iMac and using www.fast.com, my internet speed shows ~20Mpbs. My roommate has the exact same computer one room over, closer to the router, and he gets 150+Mpbs from the same website. I thought maybe he was getting better internet speeds than me because he was one room closer to the router so I've tried internet extenders. My computer connects to the extender wifi but my internet speed is cut in half, ~10Mbps. I thought it is supposed to get faster?! Can anyone give me any tips or leads on solutions to make my internet faster? Thanks! [link] [comments]
Does anyone have issues with Macbook Pro 16-inch External Montiter? Posted: 07 Jun 2020 10:19 PM PDT I have had my Macbook for a couple of months now. I have the i7 5300 4GB model. I connected my external monitor and my Macbook started to go crazy with the fans. I was like what the heck? I tried using a different cable and adapter and the same issue. I downloaded iStat Menu and saw that the Radeon High Side went from 4W with only the Macbook display to 17W with an external monitor. I said fine let me close the lid of the MacBook. I received no signal from the MacBook. I made sure that it was not falling asleep and had the power adapter connected. I went and downloaded SwitchResX which lets me customize my resolution. I tried the resolution that the monitor was telling me to use, yet nothing was showing up when I closed the lid to the MacBook. Has anyone else had this issue. I am planning on contacting Apple tomorrow to see what is going on. The fans spin like crazy because the Wattage is skyrocketing. [link] [comments]
Posted: 07 Jun 2020 06:10 PM PDT My macbook keeps doing the three finger drag thing even when I'm not touching it. I'm wondering if there is a way to fix this by myself or if I need to take it to the store? [link] [comments]
Macbook Pro 2018 Touchpad stuck down Posted: 07 Jun 2020 03:39 PM PDT So I have a 13 inch Macbook Pro 2018 running Catalina. For a week now my Touchpad has been stuck down as if it was "clicked". I can still use my mouse, my keyboard, and click and swipe normally. However the touchpad itself is not clicking or making that click sound when I press down to click, even though the system recognized the click as a click. I have tried restarting the mac, resetting the PRAM, NVRAM, and SMC, none of which fixed this problem. I am considering reinstalling macOS, and if that doesn't work maybe go to an Apple store. Is there anything else I can try to fix this, or any other advice you guys have? [link] [comments]
What do you use to cool down your MacBook? Posted: 07 Jun 2020 04:51 PM PDT We all know SMC Fan Control is the first step to take when cooling down your MacBook, hands down. I use it myself! But for my sake, I'd love to know what other software or equipment y'all use to keep your MacBook cool. I'm really curious about people's opinions on cooling mats, too. I find reviews on cooling mats to be incredibly mixed, between "this doesn't actually cool it" to "too expensive for what it does" to "breaks down too easily". Are cooling mats for MacBooks worth it? Are there any models that are actually effective/reliable? [link] [comments]

Questions about MacBook Air for Students Posted: 07 Jun 2020 07:48 PM PDT Hey! I was wondering if some of you have a MacBook Air 2020. I have heard it turns really hot with few tasks open. Can someone confirm this or say something about this laptop? I would be really grateful. I will only give it a student usage, so if we consider this, it's a good laptop for that? Also, I want to buy it with the discount that Apple gives to students. The Apple Official Website hasn't asked me for an email of something to prove I'm a student. I read in a YouTube comment that, later they send you like a verification email, so if you don't prove that you're an student, they discount you the amount. Is this true? I'm not in college yet, I'm finishing High School. Thanks for all of your answers or recommendations! [link] [comments]
What is the maximum cost to repair a MacBook Pro 16” under AppleCare+? Posted: 07 Jun 2020 05:48 PM PDT Just wondering. I read on their website it is $299 plus tax, so would that get you a full replacement if it's a total loss? [link] [comments]

Sound Distortion Safari When Video is Sped Up Posted: 07 Jun 2020 12:25 PM PDT Just switched from Windows over to the 2020 MacBook Pro and loving it for the most part. When watching videos, I sometimes speed them up through an extension or via the video settings on YouTube. I've noticed that the sound gets distorted and tinny whenever this happens. Seems to happen with just Safari and not on Chrome. Does anyone know a fix to this? [link] [comments]

Posted: 07 Jun 2020 02:30 PM PDT I got a pretty good offer on the Razer Core Chroma, and was thinking of buying it for my macbook pro 13 inch from 2014, 2,6 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i5, and pair it with a 5700 xt graphics card. Does the 2,6 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i5 processor still hold up, or should I just not bother? I am aware I will lose a lot of the performance of the 5700 XT because of thunderbolt 2, but can I still expect to play modern games at 60fps on medium graphics settings? [link] [comments]
automator script to copy highlighted text to a new line within an already existing .txt file? Posted: 07 Jun 2020 02:03 PM PDT I'm new to automator, but I want to be able to read a book in, for example, the Books app or on a webpage and then highlight a word I don't know, press a custom quick-app key in the Touch Bar (created Using Automator) to import this highlighted text into a new line of an existing text file, the file of which I use to keep track of my flashcard entries. Can this be done? If yes, please help me to create the script. I only see the option to create the highlighted text into a new file. [link] [comments]
Macbook Pro 16 inch 2019 randomly overheats and freezes Posted: 07 Jun 2020 01:55 PM PDT Hello! I got the new macbook pro 16 a few months ago, 2.3 GHz 8 core i9 processor, 16 GB memory, 1 TB hard drive sometimes it'll randomly freeze when I do something, try to click on a video in messages, open a program, etc I can hear the fan kick on, the computer gets really hot really fast, and completely freezes, including the touch bar. The only way I've found to fix it is by restarting. this is a brand spankin new computer! does anyone know what's going on? [link] [comments]
Macbook Pro 2015 is probably toast, try and fix or time to upgrade? Posted: 07 Jun 2020 04:07 AM PDT Hi, any help here would be hugely appreciated. I've had my Mid 2015 15" MBP for almost 4 years now. It's been great and I have 0 complaints, was hoping to have it for 6-8 years and especially with the touchbar addition and price increases since I bought it, I've been dreading having to upgrade. Sadly, last night I spilled some tap water on it. Not a huge amount, probably around 25-50 ml. I Immediately shut it off, dried it with a towel and have had it sat upside down, towel wrapped and with a fan on it ever since. I'll be attempting to turn it back on after 48 hours minimum but considering I'll need it for work I doubt I can leave it longer than that. I'm fully resigned to it being broken. Even if it survives this, I'd have to be extremely lucky for there not to be permanent damage that results in problems further down the line that require a replacement or fix. I've previously had to replace the screen (my cat bit the corner of the screen so hard he cracked it, yep I'm serious) but since Apple wanted £800, I had it done by a third party repair for half that who did a pretty great job, but I'd imagine now Apple wont touch it. I use my Mac for all the usual stuff and some music production which can occasionally be a little demanding so I don't think a Macbook air is an option. The recently released baseline Macbook Pro doesn't seem to be great value or very future proof so I'm unsure if its worth the investment and doubt it'll fulfill my needs. I'm guessing the best option is the recently released £1799 13 inch with updated 16GB Ram and 512gb SSD? I could get this for £1600 with student discount and probably sell my old machine for parts to make it around £1400. If my current Mac survives, does anyone know the likely cost of a repair depending on the damage? Is it even worth repairing an almost 5 year old machine? I've asked a lot of questions here but any help would be amazing. Thanks [link] [comments]
Posted: 07 Jun 2020 10:44 AM PDT i know the hard shell cases might not be good for them, but do flexible silicone ones exist? like soft shell cases that won't damage the macbook? just want to protect my laptop after getting dents and scratches :( [link] [comments]
My MBP 16" fans go 5000 RPM when I try to play What The Golf. Is this normal? Posted: 07 Jun 2020 06:49 AM PDT I get that OSX main purpose isn't gaming, but damn. This machine costed me 2300$ and I'm just trying to play a video game (What The Golf doesn't seem to have the most detailed graphics either). [link] [comments]
Posted: 07 Jun 2020 10:18 AM PDT I recently bought a new MacBook, and I've been running heavy apps like photoshop for like 2 hours. My fans turn on but I feel hot air blowing out of one side of the two vents. Is this normal? [link] [comments]
Posted: 07 Jun 2020 06:18 AM PDT Might be an obvious to some of you, but the 2020 costs 1700$ CAD brand new. My preference would be to buy new, but I found a 2015 Pro for 750$ CAD. Way cheaper but of course an older model. I'm coming from a 2009 air so either model will be a huge upgrade, but if the 2015 is still a functioning machine and will last me a few years I'd be happy to go with that. Thoughts?
