- Since upgrading to Catalina I sometimes lose the ability to select an active window ... that is, the red/yellow/green dots are grey and I can't interact with the app ... requires re-start
- Can I delete a corrupt preference file?
- Just got this piece of Apple History! Unfortunately it's seen better days. Does anyone have any recommendations for removing these scratches from the aluminum? (2003 Power Mac)
- Apparently my dad cancelled our iCloud without letting me know and all my pictures and videos are gone. Can I recover them?
- If I factory reset my iPhone X can the buyer see what is still on it?

| Posted: 08 Jun 2020 07:21 AM PDT Since upgrading to Catalina I occasionally lose the ability to select an active window ... that is, the red/yellow/green dots are grey and I can't interact with the app. I can move windows around, the window never becomes active and I cannot interact with it. Can't type in it and so on. I try doing a Cmd+Alt+Esc to get "Force Quit Applications" but it won't open. Interestingly the only thing I can do is close the application window and restart the Mac. This has been happening regularly ... every few days ... since I installed Catalina earlier this yet. I went to the Apple Store at Christmas and they did a full clean OS install for me, but the problem still happens. It's a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015, 2.7 GHz i5) and I use an external Apple USB Keyboard, Logitech mouse, and a 24" Apple Cinema Display. Any ideas why this is happening or how to stop it when it happens? [link] [comments]  |

Cocktail (as I run it periodically) says I have a corrupt preference file: com.apple.WebKit.Plugin.64.plist I rarely, if ever, use Safari. Can I safely delete this? | If I factory reset my iPhone X can the buyer see what is still on it? Posted: 08 Jun 2020 06:32 PM PDT I sold my iPhone X on mercari and I'm shipping it out tomorrow. I factory resetted it. But I read if you don't sign out of iTunes/icloud before factory setting everything will still be on there. Too late it's already reset. It has a bright white hello screen and you go through the settings to set it up. I'm not going through the settings to set up the phone though. Are all my videos/pics/apps deleted? Is there a way for anyone to see what was previously on the phone? Same goes with my iPod touch that I am shipping out tomorrow as well? Like When the person who gets the phone goes through all the settings and sets up the phone, will everything still be on there or is it completely wiped? [link] [comments]  |

| Screen saver not activating on external display Posted: 08 Jun 2020 10:01 PM PDT I recently got an external monitor for my 5+ year old 13" macbook pro, running Catalina. I usually use it in "clamshell mode" now - the macbook is closed, but with external keyboard & mouse & monitor. Although I have the screen saver configured to start after 10 minutes of inactivity, it just doesn't. If I use the "hot corner" to start the screen saver, it does start. If I take the macbook away from my desk and use the built-in display, the screen saver starts after 10 minutes of inactivity. But in clamshell mode, if I walk away and leave it for hours, it doesn't start the screen saver. I can lock the screen with ctl-cmd-q and the screen will lock, but it never changes to screen saver. Why won't the screen saver start on its own? Can I get it to? [link] [comments]  |
| iphone 7 won’t let me update or activate Posted: 08 Jun 2020 09:54 PM PDT just bought a iphone 7 off a family friend. she said it was working well a few days ago but when i received it the phone wouldn't activate because it needed an update. no biggie. tried to update it through itunes and nothing happened. i've done this several times and yet the phone still doesn't let me set it up. i would really appreciate any help i can get with this issues. i have read up on the device having a problem but if this could be the case, would i be able to even get a replacement since it's not a brand new iphone? I was using it tonight normally, then left the room for about twenty minutes with the screen flipped open. I come back into the room and press the space bar to wake it up, and I see this giant flickering bar on my screen?? I have no idea what I did wrong or what this could be, I've tried looking it up but I can't find anything that looks/sounds similar. When I touch the screen and when I fold the laptop open and closed, the pixels flicker. Is there any fix for this, or do I have to cave and bring it to Apple? Most of my workflow includes removing blemishes/backgrounds and basic edits for images I use for website development. Today I was reinstalling Adobe CS6 Production Premium Suite and noticed that AfterEffects is restricted or inaccessible. Has anyone else encountered this problem? | Is there a way to install Windows 10 directly onto a USB flash drive from a 2011 Mac? Posted: 08 Jun 2020 08:28 PM PDT I bought 2 64 Gig USB flash drives from Amazon and today they came in. One will be for Windows and one will be for Linux. I've been looking at Youtube tutorials for the last couple of hours. Looking at an Elephant's asshole-load of tutorials.
When I advance through it, it tells me Windows 10 isn't supported on my Mac and it only supports 64 bit Windows (The .ISO is 64 bit)
2.5. One telling me the same thing but for 2011 Mac's and older
I've also downloaded Rufus and BalenaEtcher. I'm gonna try these methods until one of them works. I've heard that only Mac's that are 2012 and newer can install Windows 10 using Bootcamp, and ones older have to install 7 or 8. So that might also be a problem. Is it possible to just mount the .ISO file onto the USB drive (using hdiutil mount), and installing the Windows O.S from the Disk Utility on start up? I've already mounted it. Will it work? The lag automatically goes away when I disconnect my AirPods. Also, no audio from the game comes through the AirPods and sometimes discord sound quality drops immensely. Is there any fix to this? | iPhone 11 bottom speaker louder than ear piece Posted: 08 Jun 2020 07:23 PM PDT Hi, I have an Iphone 11 and ever since I got it the bottom speaker has been slightly louder than the ear speaker in stereo landscape. Is this normal or should I be worried? It is pretty annoying cause even though it is just slight the bottom is a bit louder. Also it can't be a problem with my ears because when I flip the phone same thing happens and when I use headphones like AirPods pros it is balanced. I tried to reset and issue hasn't gone away. The audio balancer in settings also won't solve the problem because it is centere and if I move it just slightly to the left side than the volume is louder on the left. Any help would be appreciated. | Apple Watch Unpaired During Update Posted: 08 Jun 2020 06:54 PM PDT I just purchased a used iPhone XR and a used Apple Watch Series 3. The iPhone is fully up to date on 13.5.1. As I tried to pair the two together it makes me update the watch. I go to update and after a couple minutes of trying to find the estimated time remaining, the update says "5 days remaining" then the watch restarts. Once it turns back on it goes back to the flower logo with the apple in the middle, and the phone disconnects from the watch. I'm not sure what to do, I've tried restarting the watch and the phone but nothing has been working. I'd love some help, I don't know if this is a common problem. Thanks! [link] [comments]  |

| computer shuts off when booting catalina from external ssd Posted: 08 Jun 2020 06:38 PM PDT i'm working on polishing up a 2012 retina macbook pro, and while everything is thankfully running great, my internal ssd's read/write speeds are a little lacklustre, plus my external ssd has quadruple the capacity. i do want to upgrade the internal SSD but i'm waiting for a really good deal since mSATA is dead and therefore not cheap. to make do in the meantime, i cloned my internal onto an apfs volume on my external using superduper. i've done this a hundred and two times with no hiccups... until catalina. pressing option after powering on yields my disks just fine, but when i click this new partition, it behaves normally for 10 seconds before losing power. am i doing something wrong? is this apple being apple? is there any way to force it to boot? can i create an apfs volume or partition with a fresh install of catalina or will that yield the same results? any command lines? should i scream at steve jobs' ghost? btw i have a 400+GB install of high sierra on the same drive and it's absolutely fine. | MacBook Air won’t hold a charge, is super slow and fan is extremely loud.. Posted: 08 Jun 2020 06:35 PM PDT About a year ago my MacBook Air (13 in, early 2015) started giving me serious problems. Some problems include: - fan blowing extremely loud even if no applications are open - battery stays at 0% (sometimes 1%) - the MacBook will completely shut off if I unplug the charger - it's extremely slow...even after factory resets and scanning for a virus - I've done PRAM and SMC resets...does nothing - charging cycles are fine - I/O board replaced (didn't help) - sometimes it turns off by itself completely (literally just did this) and I have luck getting it to turn back on pressing the power button 283736 times at random times throughout the weeks - I've unplugged the battery and had the charger plugged in and it still doesn't turn on sometimes I've taken it to the Apple store and the guy did a temporary fix, but basically said to keep it running I just have to keep it plugged in and never shut it down or restart it. That didn't work. He said they could take it in for a repair of $500, but didn't tell me what the problem was and they could only know once it gets sent to wherever it's getting fixed. The only thing I can think of is it's the whole logic board. If anyone can give me an easier (and cheaper) solution, it would be greatly appreciated. [link] [comments]  |

I had an iPhone 10 before that and it water died so I got the info restore to my Mac but I've been told the only way it's passing it to the new phone that is now no so new.
