| Question about external SSD upgrade Posted: 13 May 2020 09:24 PM PDT Hey there! I hope you're staying safe. I currently have an iMac running macOS El Capitan, and I have an external Samsung T5 SSD plugged into it which is also running macOS El Capitan that I boot off of as my main drive. I prefer the SSD because of how speedy it is, however I need to upgrade my Mac to a newer version of macOS because some apps that I need are incompatible with El Capitan. I know that the newer versions of macOS after Sierra use the Apple File System, and I was wondering if there would be any compatibility issues if I upgraded my SSD's installation of macOS? Do I need to upgrade both the main HDD and the external SSD to a newer version of macOS? If I were to upgrade the SSD to a newer version of macOS that uses the Apple File System but not upgrade the internal HDD would it screw things up? I'm really not sure so I thought I'd come here. If someone could give me a basic rundown of exactly what I'd need to do to upgrade my Mac (preferably to macOS High Sierra) I would really appreciate it. | issue with Logitech m720 triathlon Posted: 14 May 2020 12:58 AM PDT hello when i connect my mouse (Logitech m720 triathlon) to my macbook air via the USB receiver, it works fine but when i try to connect it through bluetooth it stutters every few seconds. This is also the case when i try to connect it to a diffrent mac, the usb receiver works fine but not bluetooth. However when i connect the mouse to my phone (android) through bluetooth it works perfectly, which means it seems to be a macos issue. | Only charge to a certain level? Posted: 13 May 2020 08:47 PM PDT My work MacBook mainly stays plugged in and if I need to travel there's usually planning if it might need to be more than the 50-80% battery that I'm asking About. I saw on Lenovo they have an option to stop charging at a certain level ( similar to what the new battery level option on the beta does) but I'm wondering since they (Lenovo people) talked about a Linux command too, maybe there's one for OS X? To stop charging at 80 instead of 100? I have the new beta and although I do see times it's not going from 50 or 70 % to 100 as fast, it does seem to go to upper 90s and eventually 100 over an hour or so. Since I know I'm not going anywhere I thought having an option to manually try to keep it at 80 would be good. I'm doing similar with iPhone and iPad by just unplugging at 70-80% - but the MacBook is harder due to docking station and such [link] [comments]  | ||

| When dual-booting Mojave and Catalina, how do you import settings from Mojave to Catalina? Posted: 13 May 2020 07:22 PM PDT Hi, After some app issues in Mojave, decided to install Catalina. Due to app compatibility, still need to keep Mojave too. I don't have enough disk space to copy my whole installation. So I just tried to copy user settings in the Migration Assistant. But this failed. All user settings started with their default settings. I am multiply disabled, and need a lot of accessibility fixes to use the computer. And very few of these are under System Preferences > Accessibility. Among others, settings to: Stop app opening animations. Stop blinking cursors in NSText. Operate my mouse. Operate scrolling software. Keep scrollbars visible at all times. Use more readable fonts, and no blinking cursors, in terminal windows. And so on. Without these settings, it's hard to navigate the system, and change these settings... Also app settings in Firefox and Thunderbird. I can't use Safari or Mail. I should have copied my libraries with the Migration Assistant, but had planned to open my working Mojave Firefox settings and copy the data to the Catalina settings. | How to fix opening screen when opening laptop Posted: 13 May 2020 07:13 PM PDT Hey, you know when you open up ur macbook and it will slowly transition from the dark screen to being lit up, when i open mine up it will just go from black and jus switch to being lit up with no transition, I know its a small thing but for some reason its bothering me, I like opening it up with it looking smooth. | Intermittent screen corruption/display issue: what causes this? Posted: 13 May 2020 07:03 PM PDT My MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports) is beginning to have screen display issues. https://photos.app.goo.gl/ZBWF6owJaPx8kQNR8 shows some of the screens I'm occasionally getting - a strange effect where some horizontal lines of the screen are "frozen", sometimes in black, sometimes in whatever the screen was last displaying. But most of the time, this issue isn't there. It's only intermittent. I leave my MacBook open on my desk, and don't open/close it. When the issue is visible, it doesn't appear to be hot, and isn't running anything out of the ordinary. Physical manipulation of the device (opening/closing it, tapping it, etc) has no effect. I'm relatively convinced it isn't a physical issue. Additional displays are unaffected. I use an HDMI adaptor. I'm wondering whether fellow Redditors have seen this issue before and rectified it. Or, if a trip to the Apple Store is required, what sort of price am I likely to expect to pay to get this fixed (is this a video board replacement, a full display replacement, or what?) All help very gratefully received. This MacBook's been a lemon ever since I bought it (a bulging battery, a dodgy keyboard, a busted USB-C port) and frankly I'd be very happy not to have to nurse it further, but I guess it still works and is still in support, so... Posted: 13 May 2020 02:47 PM PDT On my 2015 iMac I went into System Preferences/Sound and unchecked "Play user interface sound effects" to stop system noises from playing (while I am on Zoom). | Mystery window corruption issue Posted: 13 May 2020 06:01 PM PDT Hi, I have a weird issue with an app bought from a small developer (who seems to have a solid rep, so I'm inclined to trust). This app kicked a debug message and when I elected to keep working instead, the main window slid up under the Mac menubar and could not be repositioned. (It has a tall toolbar so it's sitting even higher than position "0,0.") Reinstalling, tossing prefs, rebooting did not solve the issue. Finally the developer coded a special version with a "reposition window" command so I could keep using the app. However, another issue also came up: a secondary window has a divider which is supposed to be repositionable, but now is not (see screenshot). The programmer told me to toss a prefs file found in the "Containers" sandbox directory, but it is not there. He has no idea why this happened and recommended that I take the issue up with Apple, leaving me to my own devices. Can anyone advise me on what to ask the Apple support people? Or shed any light on what happened or how to fix it? Keep in mind that this is the third fresh install of the app. MacOS 10.14.6. tia [link] [comments]  | ||

I have killed all Adobe processes and tried to force delete via the terminal and safe mode, but nothing works. I ran CleanMyMac X and it says there is nothing in my trash bin, so I am super confused.
