Best volume control app for MacOS? Posted: 27 May 2020 01:45 AM PDT Can anyone recommend a simple volume control app for MacOS? I just need to be able to set applications to different volume levels, like on Windows. I'm a uni student approaching the exam session and during certain exams we'll need to have open mics in the Zoom call and we'll also need to listen to exercises on a website, but you can imagine the kind of background noise 15-20 people in a call can make, so this is why I'd like to be able to lower Zoom's volume while still being able to listen clearly to the exam's listening exercise. Mac window manager with custom per-app placement memory? Posted: 26 May 2020 06:10 PM PDT I know there's a deluge of window managers for MacOS, but I can't find one that does what I want. One of the features that I want is the ability on a per-application basis to set a custom window size/position, and then use a hotkey to snap the window (or a group of windows) to their designated location. I also want an application that is actively developed and maintained by the developer. I tried Mosaic, which is darn close to what I want, but the developer seems MIA and you can't have a 'master' hot key that snaps all defined windows into their place. I then tried Moom, but I didn't like the interface and couldn't get it configured the way I want. Finally, I tried Magnet but that doesn't have any per-app window memory. Any ideas? [Help] iMessage/Facetime delays at best, nothing at worst. At my wits end. Posted: 26 May 2020 11:23 PM PDT Hey guys. I'm really at my wits end here. TLDR: iMessage takes 2-15 minutes for messages to send or recieve, despite being instant on every other device. If I send from my phone, instant delivery. If I receive an iMessage, I get the notification instantly on my phone, but could take 2-15 minutes to deliver to my Macintosh. Facetime calls sometimes come through on Macintosh, but 100% come through on my iPhone. I have tried literally every trick in the book. Ive:
THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR ALMOST 2 MONTHS.I am begging anyone to please help me. I will literally pay you $100 if you give me the working answer. This is seriously pissing me off beyond all reasonable bounds. I genuinely don't know what else to try. Am I really in a position where I have to buy a new computer? Because that's absurd but its the only thing I can think of fixing this issue aside from creating a new iCloud account, which would be such a crazy, absurd thing to do because of all the issues it would cause with purchases, iCloud data, ect. *SYSTEM INFO: * iPhone X - iOS 13.5 iMac - 10.15.1 beta (have tried the standard release any every subsequent update) [link] [comments]
Move iCloud storage to NAS, possible? Posted: 26 May 2020 10:22 PM PDT I have a 256GB SSD in my MacBook Pro while I'm subscribed to a 200GB iCloud online storage. As the contents in iCloud grow, my local storage is running short. I intend to redirect local iCloud storage to my NAS because most of the time I use my Mac and NAS together. However I failed at the first attempt by deleting /User/myaccount/Library/Mobile\ Documents/ and then symlinking to the NAS storage mounted at /Volumes/someMountingPoint. iCloud Drive canceled the symlink and rebuilt the local folder once it was launched in System Preferences. Any one has any advice for me please? [link] [comments]

What exactly does a "fresh install" mean? Posted: 26 May 2020 08:14 PM PDT I read that doing a fresh install is always good after some time. My question is: Is it a fresh install if after I install the macOs and when prompted to use a time machine backup, I use the backup I made before? Or to be a fresh install, I have to manually download the apps and install them without using time machine? [link] [comments]
How Much Does Mac OS Hog Storage? Posted: 26 May 2020 07:51 AM PDT I'm going to buy a MacBook air for mostly simply activities like browsing the web and word documents. I will probably occasionally download some movies for trips but don't plan on keeping anything too large downloaded. I know 256gb would be plenty on windows but I've never owned a Mac and was curious about if I should go for the 512gb or not [link] [comments]
Change QuickTime ‘buffer’ location Posted: 26 May 2020 11:10 AM PDT Hey, During this time I need to record some online video calls. For this I use QuickTime and save my files to an external drive. However since the cached file is saved on my MacBook before I am able to export it to an external drive, I'm not able to record larger videos because my Mac runs out of storage. Is there a way to change the default recording location of the 'cached' file? I mean for example, that the preview you get when stopping a recording is not saved on the Mac, but on an external drive. I don't know how else to describe this problem. My Mac has only 128GB which are completely filled up with programs. Any help is much appreciated Thanks [link] [comments]

Posted: 26 May 2020 03:03 PM PDT I want to do a clean install of Catalina since I've been having some issues, and I would like to keep my music library intact, with all my playlists, and especially the "Recently added" structure, cause im using Smart Playlists a lot. My folder structure looks like this. https://imgur.com/lQlqDgi I copied this folder to an external SSD first, and then I imported it to the same place on the new device. However, when I tested it on another Mac I first copied the whole folder to the same spot and opened the musiclibrary.musiclibrary file, the whole library was actually there with playlists and everything, but it couldn't find the actual music files, although the file structure is exactly the same as in the picture. Manually searching the file for every song is too much work...So how to proceed / what did I wrong? [link] [comments]
iCloud Drive Taking Forever to Sync Posted: 26 May 2020 10:54 AM PDT So for a bit of context I have a 2020 MacBook Pro that I got a few days ago. In the process of troubleshooting iCloud Drive.app using significant energy I signed out of iCloud and caused all manner of problems. I have fixed those problems iCloud Drive has been "syncing" for almost a day straight and is proceeding with a 1-ish GB upload as if I have a dial-up connection. I have a 100+ Mb/s connection it is definitely not dial-up. I don't want to sign back out of iCloud in case I [link] [comments]
Posted: 26 May 2020 06:59 AM PDT Hello I need help. I have downgraded to macOS Mojave on 2017 MacBook Air with 128gb of storage and 84 of them are "Other Volumes". Any ideas how to recover them? Thank you very much for the answers I will try all of them until it works! [link] [comments]
Posted: 26 May 2020 08:27 AM PDT So i have Catalina Music set so I can manually add songs but for some reason ill come across seemingly random tracks I cant add. This time its an mp3 I bounced myself from a DAW. Should be fine, plays fine, I export and transfer my own tracks all the time no problems (standard 44.1khz mp3) but for some reason I cant "add to device" this song or drag it to the iphone. Ive tried filling out all the ID3 tags, exporting a wav a converting it to mp3 in itunes, but for some reason it just doesnt want to add this song. Also the track plays fine in iTunes (er catalina music) [link] [comments] |
