    Recover data in macOS Catalina with free open source software

    I have accidentally deleted a few of my important files from the internal HDD of my mac mini 2014 version. I was trying to recover the files using testdisk which is opensource and free, but unable to do it. If someone can guide me in this process or give an alternative from where I can recover the file, I will be really grateful.

    Also, I have discussed the issue with apple customer care, but they are unable to help as they were suggesting Time machine or iCloud route which unfortunately I haven't backed up through this process.

    (Home Sharing) Is this normal behaviour?

    I haven't used home/media sharing prior to Catalina so I'm not sure how it worked in the old iTunes but is it normal for the TV app to close any films/shows open and disconnect from a shared library whenever the Mac goes to the lockscreen/screensaver/sleep mode? It's especially annoying because it never saves the playback position.

    Can i install the latest version of macOS on a 2010 MacBook Pro?

    I picked up a 2010 MacBook Pro for very cheap because it has a faulty hard drive, not sure if It's going to be useable or not. I just plan to watch videos and start an online Shopify business. If I can't install the latest version will I be able to do what I need on what it has?

    XCode won't update due to lack of free space even though I have 25GB free. That's more than a full XCode installation. I always have to delete and re-install.

    Upgraded MBP 2012 - macOS Question

    So I had my wife's 2012 MBP upgraded - new SSD HD, and upped the RAM to 8 GB. There is some browning on the motherboard so, who knows if it will last another month or another year, or five. My question is how long you think this will continue to be supported by Apple in terms of macOS updates? It's listed as a vintage machine now, so I know we are likely on its last days in terms of hardware support of any kind, but hoping there may be a few more years of macOS updates to look forward to at the least!

    Bolder System Text

    Hi all,

    I just got a new monitor and with the scaling at maximum resolution all the system text is much too thin for me to read. I tried to dig through the accessibility pane in system preferences and wasn't able to find an option for bold text (similar to what is on iOS).

    Is there a way for me to change the system font to be bolder?

    Catalina on a Macbook Air 11 inch 2015

    Has anyone updated their macbook air 11 inch (or similar spec) macbook to Catalina from mojave? Simply was it a bad idea? haha

    I have the macbook running mojave now and it is not really fast, applications take a while to open sometimes but are snappy enough when theyre open. Is Catalina going to kill whatever remaining speed I have? Or is it possible it will correct some of the bugs I have that were never fixed in mojave?

    Would love to know your thoughts.

    My Mac Keeps Building A Huge Cache File

    My Mac keeps downloading and building a cache for iCloud. I tend to keep the majority of my iCloud files off my Mac. I download them when I need them, but my Mac keeps downloading files and caching them. This has been going on for a couple of days now. The cache gets to 80 GB. I delete itself or I delete it and it rebuilds. Does anyone know whats going on?

    Badge on Apple TV app won’t go away

    A red badge popped up on the Apple TV app and it won't go away. I opened the app and I even restarted my Mac and it is still there. Is anyone else having this issue or does anyone know how to get rid of it?

    I used to use soda player to stream video content to my chromecast, but there were some concerns over that app so I no longer use it. I was wondering if there's a free equivalent player like that? thanks so much!

    I want to do a clean install on my now Mac,, but concerned about my Music Library, because my file structure is messed up since Catalina. Any help?

    Right now I have a folder named "Music" where the Music Library file and an empty folder called "Media" is stored AND a folder named "iTunes", where all my music files are stored...Because I'm a hobby dj and it's important the order when I added my music and playlists don't get messed up. Whats the best way to move these files to my new Mac?

    Mac Mini Triple Monitor Issue. (macOS forgets display arrangement)

    First off, apologies for the long post.

    I've had a 2018 Mac Mini for around a week (6 core i5, 8GB RAM, 1TB SSD) and everything has been great except for an issue that reared its head in the last few days.

    I have three monitors on my desk - a 27 inch Dell S2719H in the middle (main display, connected via HDMI), a 24 inch Dell P2417H to the left (connected via a USB-C to Displayport cable), and another identical P2417H to the right in portrait (also connected via a USB-C to Displayport cable).

    The two USB-C to Displayport cables are Cable Matters from Amazon (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01LYD2Y19/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

    For the first few days everything was fine, but since Thursday, every time I turn the Mini on, macOS has forgotten which order the monitors are arranged in. The left display has now become the "main" display but rotated 90 degrees as if it was portrait, the middle monitor looks fine, and the monitor on the right has reverted to standard (but looks incorrect because it's physically oriented in portrait).

    It's getting quite annoying having to spend a few minutes correcting it on every boot by manually going into the display preferences, but nothing that I've tried so far seems to work.

    Swapping the order of the USB-C cables does nothing, unplugging and replugging them in before/ after boot does nothing, and resetting the PRAM has also not had any effect.

    All in all I'm at a bit of a loss. If anyone has any ideas (or a solution) that can fix it I'd be forever grateful.

    1080p wont play safari

    Safari wont play 1080p 70% of the time on my macbook, sound plays but video is frozen or plays at like 1 frame, but the odd time it will play perfectly fine..

    When I add songs to my Apple Music playlist, sometimes I see older songs randomly come up to the top of the list despite me having it sort by Date Added. Clicking Copy To Play Order does not fix it. Anyone also have this same issue?

    How to create a mac OS usb installer?

    I'm trying to create a usb installer with a mac OS but according to several guides I've looked up they want me to find this "creationinstall media" file or something in the "resource" file but there isn't even a file called that? so I think I'm doing something wrong. I've already downloaded several mac OS to see if it was that specific OS update but they pretty much all the same.

    Edit: Don't know if it affects it but I already have the latest update on the current mac.

    Spell check bug? Tries to correct to "propyl". Only on MacOS. iOS does not do this. [Catalina 10.15.4]

    A few years ago I installed Windows to play some games. However I did not delete it probably and it somehow just deleted windows but did not free up the space. The space is still taken up by the system. Does anyone have any clue how to fix this. Thanks!
