Posted: 23 May 2020 04:19 PM PDT Hey r/Apple, I build a Reddit app for iOS called Apollo, you all have been really nice in the past and provided great feedback when I've posted, so I wanted to update you about a really big update I just released that I've been working on for months: Apollo 1.8! I don't want this to be one of those recipe blog posts where you have to scroll through a ten page story to get to the good stuff, so I'll cut right to the point and list the features. I'll hang around the thread for as long as you want to answer questions/suggestions as well! (I like to do thorough changelogs because it makes me feel good about myself, but if this is tl;dr for you here's a quick feature list blast for the update: media viewing upgrades, Reddit video downloading, on the fly GIF conversion, faster sharing, Smart Rotation Lock, Portrait Lock Buddy, 5 new app icons, share post/comment as an image, Reddit polls, new Reddit awards, fast comment parent previewing, more iOS 13 context menus, iPad pointer/trackpad support.) (Oh and if you view the changelog in Apollo I embedded images for extra clarity.) Media Viewer
Media Sharing
Smart Rotation Lock
Portrait Lock Buddy
Share Comment/Post as an Image
Five New App Icons
New Reddit Awards
Reddit Polls
Comment Parent Previewing
iPad Pointer/Trackpad Support
Other
I ran out of things to sayWell that's the update folks! I've got lots of great new features planned for the coming months, plus a really awesome, completely revamped from the ground up iPad app, but I'll take a break from those to answer questions or feedback in this thread as long as you want! I'm going to make cinnamon rolls to celebrate the update going out! – Christian [link] [comments]

PSA: Face ID is not supposed to unlock the phone if you wear a mask Posted: 23 May 2020 02:32 AM PDT I've seen a couple of posts in the /new queue about this and maybe it's a good idea to make it clear what the 13.5 update did to Face ID. Prior to 13.5, when you had the mask on your face, Face ID tried to scan your face normally and, once it failed after approximately 3 seconds, it would present you with the passcode prompt. When you had the mask on each scan would take at least a couple of extra seconds. Given that the average user unlocks their phone ~30 times a day, and that a delay of three seconds will make users unwilling to check anything, this is a bad experience as each unlock may take 5+ seconds. In 13.5, when you have the mask of your face, Face ID checks for a mask or something that covers the lower regions of your face (I tested a balaklava as well) and then instantly offers you to type the passcode. This simply means that the useless 3-second scan is not done, which in turn means that you don't waste at least one minute of your day in waiting for your iPhone to finish the useless scan. I made an app where you can learn to design iOS apps interactively ! Posted: 23 May 2020 11:21 AM PDT Since many of you guys are interested in Apple products, I figured you might be interested in making apps for iOS. This app will interactively teach you about SwiftUI, a very recent UI toolkit utilized to design iOS apps super easily. As a SwiftUI learner, I wanted to make some kind of medium where its users can actively interact with SwiftUI instead of simply looking at screenshots to see how the designs look like. Actively interacting with SwiftUI is only possible on Apple platforms, so this is not achievable on most websites or Android devices because Swift can't run in such environments. And that's why I decided to make an iOS app for this very purpose! This app is free, and there are no ads whatsoever. While I am not an advanced iOS developer, I sincerely wish this app would serve its functions and help its users to learn some SwiftUI! I'm definitely planning to update it by continuously improving and including more topics in the near future as I take into account all of your feedback! Thank you so much for reading, and please feel free to comment here or email me at [interactiveswiftui@gmail.com](mailto:interactiveswiftui@gmail.com) for any kind of feedback! And lastly, please remember to stay safe during this global pandemic! Link to the app on App Store: [link] [comments]

Posted: 23 May 2020 03:46 PM PDT Now that Apple Glass is more "real" what would you like to see? What ideas do you have? EDIT: Personally, I think it's going to start with notification banners on the glass and maybe a maps overlay. Maybe, using the Lidar, we could be able to see in the dark? [link] [comments]
Posted: 23 May 2020 07:39 AM PDT I always thought sleep tracking/watch alarms were a cool idea, but silly in practice because, well, you normally have to charge your watch at night. Anyways, I need to wake up on east coast hours now for work but my girlfriend wakes up PST, so I figured I'd try using the watch as a vibration alarm so I don't wake her up every morning. It's actually awesome to wake up without hearing an alarm, and the sleep cycle app is pretty cool too (still trying to figure out if it's bullshit, but I like it so far). Charging is actually not much of an issue. I take my watch off before I shower and stick it on the charger. Since it's usually still around 30-40%, it gets back up to 100% in the next hour or two before I go to bed. I was wrong about this one! If you sleep with an SO who you don't want to wake up, it's very practical and charging isn't an issue. [link] [comments]
