How To: Using Apple News on Mac in unsupported Regions Posted: 20 May 2020 03:11 PM PDT I just found out by accident that the News app is actually just hidden within the Applications folder. You can show hidden files with: If you don't want to see all hidden files always you can create a symlink (basically a windows Shortcut) with the Terminal app like this:
Now simply drag and drop the News symlink into your applications and you can find it in Launchpad. If you open it you can also pin it to the app bar :D [link] [comments]

Question regarding multi-display setup Posted: 21 May 2020 01:55 AM PDT Hey guys, I have a question regarding multi-monitor setup. I have my MacBook hooked up to an external display. I am using the external display as the main one (with dock etc) and my MacBook display as secondary. I have multiple desktops set-up (two on main display and third one on the MacBook). Apps on the MacBook display are maximized. So far, so good. When I disconnect external display, all desktops including dock switch to MacBook and obviously maximized apps are shrunk in order to accommodate the dock which now appears on my MacBook display. When I re-connect my external monitor, it is all switched back BUT the maximized apps on my MacBook display remain shrunk (there is a bar below them where the dock used to be) and do not turn back maximized. I know that it takes one click, but when you do this multiple times a day, it gets cumbersome. So, my question is - is there any way to make this automatic so that the apps on the MacBook display maximize themselves as if the dock was never there? I hope this makes sense :) [link] [comments]
iMovie on Macbook download fail: "We could not complete your purchase." What could I do? Posted: 20 May 2020 11:05 PM PDT This MacBook Air 2017 has been freshly installed with Mojave. I wiped the disk before doing so. After that, I went on to the App Store to download iMovie... but it won't download! The error message displayed above, and "cancelled" inside the popup box, was all the info given. What could this be? I tried deleting App Store preferences, cookies, restarting the computer, changing DNS to 8.8.8.8, changing wi-fi, but none worked. Also, the download button was a cloud with an arrow, not the usual "GET" button. I have signed in with the same Apple ID as last time- both for my iCloud and App Store. Please help! EDIT: I tried downloading other apps, nothing would download!!!!! [link] [comments]

Download Older MacOS Installer.app Files? Posted: 20 May 2020 02:38 PM PDT A few weeks back after checking and rechecking that nobody in my home had any further need for legacy 32bit support, I performed clean installs of Catalina on all my family's Macs. While I backed up the data from all of their machines before wiping, I did not create disk images and lo and behold, now someone needs an app that only works on Mojave and earlier. I've googled around trying to download the Mojave installer app, but so far nothing has worked. Does anyone know where I could obtain one? [link] [comments]
Booting Windows from an old hard drive with an iMac Posted: 20 May 2020 11:58 AM PDT My mom just got an iMac but she still needs to use Windows for some stuff from her work. I thought of just installing Windows in a partition via BootCamp like I have done in my MBP, but she still has her Windows computer at home. Would it be possible to boot the iMac from the C: drive from the old computer plugging it in via USB (putting the old drive into one of those SATA-USB cases)? The iMac is running Catalina if that should make any difference. [link] [comments]
Formatting an External SSD for Mac Posted: 20 May 2020 05:33 PM PDT I know this seems like a basic question, but I've looked around online a bit and found different answers to this. I'm getting an external SSD for my 2018 Mac mini, and I'm using it to store music files and Logic projects and such. I want to make sure I get as much speed out of this drive as possible, so what would be the best way to format it? I currently use Mac OS Extended (Journaled) on my external HDD, but I've read around that using the APFS would be better for an external SSD. I'm not using this SSD as a backup for Time Machine, I'm using it solely for music purposes. However, I do plan on backing this SSD up to my dedicated Time Machine backup drive (1TB External HDD). Would it be possible to backup this SSD to my Time Machine backup drive, or would I run into issues because the two drives would be formatted differently? (SSD would be APFS, and the Backup Drive would be Mac OS Extended (Journaled)) [link] [comments]
Posted: 20 May 2020 05:32 PM PDT Hi, I have a macbook pro 15 early 2011, and it recently got stuck on a white screen, I have reset the nvram, the smc and etc, multiple times, couldn't make it work, so I tried installing linux (fedora 31) on it, to see if it would work, and it did, so I, tried reinstalling macOS with a bootable usb, and again, white screen, also tried reinstalling it through internet recovery, and once again, white screen, I don't know what's going on, why did linux work, but macOS (high sierra 10.13.6) doesn't? Posted: 20 May 2020 09:00 AM PDT Hey everyone, I wanted to make a post about Microsoft Office (specifically Word and Excel) to see if anyone else has had a similar experience. I've had my 2016 Macbook Pro for a couple of years and I've always had issues with these programs. Especially when using "equations", there is a ton of lag in Word; it takes 5 or so seconds to add variables sometimes. I was wondering if anyone here has found a fix or if there are some alternatives to editing docx files. I know MS Office has a bad reputation on macOS. [link] [comments]
What's your go-to internet browser MacOS May 2020 Posted: 20 May 2020 05:23 AM PDT After some research, it appears the Brave web browser & Firefox are the top two browsers. Both support my browser extensions, some say chromium based browsers will be faster. What browser do you have on your Mac? [link] [comments]

Apple Remote menu and play/pause buttons not working Posted: 20 May 2020 02:40 PM PDT I recently replaced the HD on my mid-2010 imac and upgraded to Catalina. My metal remote still works to forward/back songs and turn the volume up and down. When I press menu - nothing happens. When I press play/pause - it briefly pauses the music then plays it again. I just replaced the battery and re-paired the remote and everything is the same. Any ideas how to fix it? Or if its fixable? [link] [comments]
MacOS 10.15.4 not logging in accounts Posted: 20 May 2020 12:56 PM PDT I have updated my 2017 iMac 4K (details in case it helps) to 10.15.4 and since then I have not been able to log in to some user accounts. I can log into the one I used to update the computer but the others will just show a spinning loading wheel (not the colourful wheel, just a grey logging in wheel) and not log in. I have tried resetting the SMC and PRAM/NVRAM but it still won't work... does anyone know how to fix this? Or has anyone had a similar problem? [link] [comments]
