    Which apps do you use the most as a Slideover?

    The following apps are always open as a Slideover for me, one of my favorite iPadOS features:

    • Bitwarden (password manager)
    • Gladys (an alternative to Yoink)
    • Calculator Pro (looking for alternatives with parentheses in the main keyboard)
    • Trello (task/project manager)
    • Carrot Weather
    • Music
    • Files (still not sure)

    Do you use any other apps which are more useful on the side of the screen?

    I'm a teacher and Apple Distinguished Educator from Cornwall, UK. I'm hugely passionate about using technology in meaningful ways in the classroom and am always looking for ways to support others with this. One of my projects is a monthly video series called Smashing Apps, where I get three teachers from around the world on a video call so we can each share our favourite app with each other.

    These conversations are fun and laid back but I always learn a ton from them. I've started sharing them on YouTube too so that others might be able to gain something too.

    I've been wondering what the best document writing app is for the iPad, I normally use Google docs on my pc but it's awfully awkward on the iPad. I know that word is free but was wondering if it's worth paying to get office 365 ? Or if there are any better alternatives.

    I have a magic keyboard and use the 12.9 pro and ideally need an app which allows for referencing and footnotes.

    Love my iPad Pro, need help with one thing for it to become my laptop replacement

    Tl;dr: do any video apps support split screen or slide over?

    Long story:

    My MBP got stolen last December and I have long wanted to use an iPad Pro as my main device for work and leisure. Coming from an iPad Air 2, I really adore my my new IPad Pro 12.9 inch, and it's almost my dream device.

    However.. given that I am working remotely at the moment I have a lot of video conference calls throughout the day. My company is pretty agnostic in terms of using Teams / Google Meet/. Zoom / Slack but none of them seem to support background video calls. As soon as I go to split screen or slide over the video is cut, which makes it impossible for me to refer to notes, look at a presentation or check mail during long calls. Any workarounds to this?

    Edit: no need for it to be an app either, happy to use a safari browser for a desktop website if that works.

    Open box (excellent) 12.9 Magic Keyboards have been going in & out of stock at Best Buy - $50 off

    Been longingly looking at the Magic Keyboard on Best Buy's site for a week and came across an open box this morning. Went to check out and it said item wasn't available. Looked again about an hour later and it did let me check out. $299 and free shipping for the 12.9 if you can find it! Can't imagine the condition would be anything other than new considering it just came out. Just a heads up, as I'm sure some people on here are keeping an eye on it

    Magic Keyboard Vs Smart Folio Keyboard, which do you prefer if you own both?

    Was set on ordering the Magic Keyboard but held off due to the price, waited for reviews. Reviews says it's fairly heavy and you can't set it in a drawing position, and I do use my Pencil a fair amount, so left it. I had the Logitech keyboard case when I first got the iPad but returned it due to the weight.

    Been using it more for Excel and general computing and I like the idea of a keyboard again, but not sure whether to get the Magic Keyboard and a Folio case, so the former I can use for working / typing, watching Netflix or whatever, and then switch to the Folio case for drawing, or if I should just get the Smart Folio Keyboard, and forego the trackpad - which was one of the reasons I wanted to Magic Keyboard.

    TIL [Cmd]+Space pulls up Spotlight/Search

    Just like in macOS, you can press [Command] + [Spacebar] on any attached keyboard (USB/Bluetooth/Folio/Magic Keyboard) to open spotlight search. Makes it super useful for quick calculations and jumping between apps.

    I am eagerly waiting from my brand new iPad Pro with Magic Keyboard, and while waiting I am checking the USB adapters.

    My ideal HUB adapter would be like the Hyperdrive 6-in-1 hub adapter (i.e. mounting directly on the ipad),

    however following questions for the community. 1. I would like an adapter like the Hyperdrive but also with Ethernet, is there something like this? I.e. with USB/3.5mm audio jack/Ethernet at least... 2. The Hyperdrive mentions that it is compatible with Smart Keyboard folio meaning it holds itself onto the body of the ipad, would this adapter be compatible with the Magic Keyboard? 3. Any other thoughts/ideas/experiences?

    How long are you waiting for shipping due to Covid? On their website it shows to expect some delays but I wonder if it's a normal shipping delay or is a manufacturing delay assuming they have zero in stock.

    I love my iPad but sometimes it can feel like an afterthought from developers because of them only making iPhone apps and not an iPad variant.

    The one which always sticks out to me is PayPal!

    Magic Keyboard rubbing off with a screen protector on Ipad

    I was curious about how some cases, like my Zugu case, have a plastic layer between the pencil and the iPad while it's charging. I wanted to know whether this layer caused made any difference to the idle battery drain of the iPad, so for the past three nights I went to sleep with both iPad and pencil at 100% charge in three different conditions, and recorded my iPad battery levels:

    Pencil attached with Zugu Case: 8% drain over 8 hours

    Pencil not attached: 1% drain over 8 hours

    Pencil attached with no case: 2% drain over 8 hours

    This suggests that the plastic of the case between the iPad and the Apple Pencil causes a significant increase in the idle battery drain of the iPad.

    It occurs to me that I didn't pay attention to what apps may have been active in the background. I'm not sure how that works, or if apps continue to be active at all while the device is locked. If anyone has a suggestion for repeating this experiment with a more consistent iPad state, I'm open to trying again. Perhaps shutting off the iPad completely, and turning it back on, before starting the timer?
