Changed from Zsh to fishshell, what a difference! Posted: 14 Apr 2020 10:40 PM PDT Hi! Just want to tell you guys that i moved from zsh shell to fish shell. The difference in performance is outstanding! Dont have to wait like 10 seconds for the terminal and shell to fire up. And many of the plugins that i used for zsh are native in fishshell, for example autocomplete. Im using Iterm2 as a terminal (dont know if thats the best option for fish) but Iterm2 has the option for hot-key to bring the terminal window to front, and thats awseome! You can also adjust transparency and blur as background on iterm2. links if you are interested: fishshell, Oh-my-fish if you want to add some cool styling, themes the themes for oh-my-fish. Posted: 15 Apr 2020 01:52 AM PDT I am trying to create a keyboard shortcut for activity monitor. However, the guides I read don't even allow me to try. cause the menus are different. "Udvilking"=development. Its Danish.more translation below. The main difference is that on the left in this Quora guide there are several programs and applications, whereas on my Mac it is only stuff like: "Get apple services; Create new apple script instruction; Start as apple script; Create workflow; Create service." but Idont know how to add Activity Monitor.app. how do I do this and what keys should I use? because the regular ctrl+shit+esc is both waayyy too slow and irresponsive, and it doesn't lead me to a comprehensive view where I can kill process like on microsoft. in windows: If Google Chrome lagged. Could kill specific parts of google chrome. I am able to follow simple instructions but I don't code. [link] [comments]
Catalina 10.14.5 - SSH to ONE host (using IP and 22) suddenly stopped working Posted: 15 Apr 2020 01:51 AM PDT So, I had an open session to another machine on my network, and the session froze suddenly. I tried to reconnect but I just get a timeout. I can SSH to the machine from other machines on the network, and absolutely everything else appears to be fine (I'm running a webserver on that machine and can access it just fine via a browser). I've tried rebooting both the server and my Macbook, but to no avail. I can SSH successfully to other machines. I saw a post about how 10.14.5 "broke SSH", but seems to be when using high port numbers and a hostname instead of an IP, so I don't believe it's related. Anyone else experienced this? It's doing my head in. EDIT: Further development: I added an alias IP to the server's interface and tried to SSH to that... again, works from a different machine, but not from my Macbook. MBP 15" 2018 bluetooth keeps getting disconnected after lag Posted: 15 Apr 2020 01:31 AM PDT I'm on macOS Catalina 10.15.4 and my macbook pro keeps disconnecting bluetooth peripherals (keyboard and mouse) after a huge lag. So, while working normally, the apple magic keyboard and logitech mx master 2s mouse, starts lagging heavily. Keyboard has a huge lag while typing and mouse movement is slowed and lagging. Then i see Keyboard disconnected msg and then after 10-15 secs, it connects back again. This started happening after the upgrade 10.15.4. Never had such issues in the past. I have done shutdown, reload but none of this helped. [link] [comments]
File Movement History/Original Location of a file Posted: 15 Apr 2020 12:54 AM PDT Hello. So a day ago, after installing MacOS Catalina, I decided to run X-Plane 11. It contains various "mac.xpl" files(which are plug in files). When I started X-Plane, these files were blocked from running and I got a popup that said "mac.xpl is from an unidentified developer" and it gave me the option to move to trash. I forgot these files were part of x-plane, and I accidentally moved four of them to the trash. Then, I realized I shouldn't have since I messed with the internals of the software. I have taken these files out of the trash. However, I don't know where they go in my X-Plane folder. There's many subfolders, and they could belong anywhere. Many folders contain "mac.xpl" files. There was no "put back" option in the trash, because finder moved my files, not me. Is there any way I could find the files' original location? I tried checking system and console logs but I don't really know how they work and they wouldn't show me logs from when the file movement happened. X-Plane isn't working properly and I need to put these files back to where they were. [link] [comments]
Quick Heads-Up Needed on Upgrading OS Posted: 15 Apr 2020 12:52 AM PDT Am on OS Sierra 10.12.6 and have been putting off upgrading for a while as I have some critical software that I fear won't work. But the time has now come where I need to do this as one of my most needed programs will no longer work. So basically looking for advice on any major pitfalls or things to look out for that might be problematic in the upgrade to latest OS. Here are my critical apps:
That's it for the older stuff. Any foreseeable issues? Anything else to watch out for? Thanks. [link] [comments]
Sudden loud static noise when using wireless earbuds Posted: 15 Apr 2020 12:04 AM PDT As the title says , I'm getting sudden loud static noises when I'm using my wireless earbuds (Anker sound core liberty lite)with my Mac.This same behaviour does not happen when I use it with my iPhone. This sound occurs consistently when a system sound such as the default macOS error sound comes up and also occasionally when watching a YouTube video. This absolutely bugs me and I hope someone here could help me solve this issue. How to stop Chrome from automatically opening at login - Nektony.com Posted: 14 Apr 2020 10:24 PM PDT https://nektony.com/blog/how-to-stop-chrome-from-automatically-opening-at-login A few days ago I installed Chrome on my mac. And always wondered why Chrome always startup by a reboot (whether choosing: Reopen windows when logging back in). It seems Chrome auto enable itself to auto startup whether you want it or not. Since I am new to this, I haven't used macOS for a few years, when did this become standard? This looks very bad in my eyes. I can't remember I was asked this during install. [link] [comments]

How regularly are system.config logs (including .gz) files kept before they’re cleared in Mojave? Posted: 14 Apr 2020 08:02 PM PDT I know that Mac has an automatic clearance system that regularly clears archived log files. I've done research and from Search I've found some people say default (Ttl) is set for 7 days. But when I looked at the config file on my system it didn't have a ttl value. But still there were no archives older than 6 days. [link] [comments]
Optimize Safari for best browsing experience Posted: 14 Apr 2020 02:02 PM PDT Hey guys, I was wondering what kind of settings you need to have the best browsing experience with the safari browser in terms of performance and privacy, lets not talk about ad blocks as there are enough topics on it. Recently I found that safari stocks a lot when im browsing reddit, sometimes it takes forever. [link] [comments]
Posted: 14 Apr 2020 07:57 PM PDT When I look in the application section in finder I see that there's a folder called "Utilities", when I click on it, it opens up a folder, the same folder that is called "Other" in Lauchpad. For some reason folders I made in Launchpad don't show up in the application section of Finder. For example, I put two apps in a folder in Launchpad but when I look in the application section of Finder they are not in a folder. This is really bugging me. Do you know why this happens? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. [link] [comments]
