    USB-C hub not working after update to 10.15.4

    I recently updated to macOS 10.5.4 on my 2019 MacBook Pro 16 and one of the small LENTION 4-in-1 USB-C hubs I use stopped working after an update to macOS Catalina 10.15.4. I have two of them and they both stopped working. It worked prior to 10.15.4 and it also worked on a 2015 MacBook 12". I've also tried each of the 2 hubs I have in all four USB-C ports on the MacBook Pro

    I've reset the SMC and the NVRAM on the MacBook Pro already and neither resolved the issue. The devices never show up in the System Information report under USB.

    They both still work when connected to an iPad Pro. I can connect a USB DJ controller through the Lention hub to the iPad Pro and it shows up as an available device in the iPad software.

    Sounds like something broke USB things in this update. Anyone have any ideas?

    I want to create a Virtual Machine of macOS High Sierra or El Capitan on my Mac Computer. How do I do this?

    I already have Virtualbox installed. I just don't know how to create and run a VM of macOS High Sierra with VirtualBox.

    Need help to fix Mac OS bug

    After I performed the factory reset, my Mac OS X would not allow me to create an account. Like every time I hit to create an account, it returns to a select language screen. Any ideas?

    Catalina - Word selection keyboard shortcut stopped working globally (option+shift+arrows)

    Option+shift+arrow shortcuts just stopped working in the last day or so, I don't think this started after a specific OS upgrade or any other big change I can think of. cmd+shift+z for Redo also stopped working. I tried restarting and killing nearly all 3rd party apps, still can't get these combos to work again. I have two input languages, same behavior in both. Also happens both on the macbook's keyboard and the external magic keyboard 2.

    Jumping words forward/backwards still with option+shift+arrows still works, it's just the selection that doesn't.

    Anybody knows what could cause this? Or how to fix this, even if that means resetting all global hotkeys or something like that, I really can't type without the word selection shortcuts.

    Other text selection shortcuts are still working as expected (cmd+shift+arrows for selecting text to the beginning/end of line/whole text). Undo also with cmd+z also still works as expected.

    macbook keeps completely freezing. i usually end up having to force restart after a few hours of using it. i was able to restart today (without forcing it) then this happened for a few mins. anyone know what this means and what i can do?

    I am customizing my MacOS applications by changing their icon images. I am able to add my own *.icns icon file to a third-party app's package contents directory no problem. But I'm unable to do so for default applications (Dictionary, Podcasts, etc.) -- EVEN WHEN I LOG IN AS ROOT! Root has both read/write privileges, so I'm really confused as to how even THAT won't work.

    Am I missing something? Or are the default MacOS apps completely locked down?

    Discord Not Displaying Correctly: Not scaling correctly or not showing entire page

    Discord is not displaying the entire page correctly on Safari 11.1.2.

    I don't know if this is because I am using an older version of Safari (11.1.2) or because of some other reason.

    Can someone please test out Discord using Safari 11.1.2 and verify that it no longer displays properly on Safari 11.1.2 for me?

    I don't have extra drives to test it out myself and I don't know how to use virtual machines.

    [HELP] How likely is it I lose data when upgrading to Catalina?

    I currently am running High Sierra and have been constantly having major issues with imessage syncing with my phone. If I upgrade to Catalina it should fix the issue, but how likely is it that I lose data? I have an icloud drive backup, but that is it. Thoughts?

    Remote desktop help

    I bought my wife a MacBook air to work from home with. She connects through Cisco Anyconnect VPN and needs remote desktop access to a windows pc.

    We are able to use both a windows and chromebook laptop with Microsoft remote desktop with no issues. I've had no luck using the Microsoft remote desktop app on the MacBook to connect.

    She does not have administrator privileges on the computer that needs to be remoted into.

    Any recommendations to get the Microsoft remote desktop connection to work on the MacBook or another app/program that could be used in place of it where nothing would need to be installed on the work computer that is being remotely accessed?

    Macbook Air 2012 Mac OSX issue

    Dear macOS community It's my first post here and I hope I'm writing to the correct subreddit.

    I got used Macbook Air from 2012 8gb RAM and 256 SSD. This is my first apple product.
    Since the owner did factory reset I got it with Mountain Lion OS.

    I looked into upgrading it and found that I should first go to El Capitan and then on newer OS so i went to the App store, found El Capitan downloaded it and started upgrade. It went oke almost till the end when it reported some type of errors.

    Since the error happened in the middle of upgrade I cannot log in to the old OS Mountain Lion.
    When I reboot it boots into macOS utilities so I went to disk utility erased Macintosh HD and went with install macOS. It starts nice until it asks me to sign in to apple ID. I do that and it reports that apple ID hasn't yet been used with app store.
    I went to my icloud and updated all my info. Tried again and still the same issue.

    I googled what other options i can do and found that I can boot from USB. Best would be to create bootable OS on another Mac but since COVID-19 locked me in the apartment I cant get to someone with mac.

    I have laptop with Windows so I tried to create bootable usb with windows but macbook air doesn't recognise it.

    After realising windows option wont work i Installed Linux on my laptop and tried to create bootable USB with High Sierra using Linux it went well but I get error
    "This copy of install MacOS High Sierra application is damaged, and can't be used to install macOS"
    I tried same with other macOS versions and it gives me the same error.

    I'm using Linux Manjaro 19.0 and Windows 10.
    With windows I tried to create bootable USB using TransMac trial.
    With Linux I tried "dd if=/home/user/Downloads/macosx.iso of=/dev/sdb && sync

    Can someone give me some more options? Please!!!

    Downgrading mac

    So my friend has a Mac book pro from 2011 currently high Sierra and asked me to help him downgrade it to Sierra for software compatibility reasons but after manually backing up his crazy file system ordering method ( he's not really tech savy at all so that took forever) I was a bit too tired and couldn't manage finishing the process when I try making a bootable install media it did not let me.. I have tried several usb dongles just to be sure and also some of the formats in disk utility didn't help it just says the installation media isn't compatible or something something of sorts also tried an automated disk creating utility but have a problem does anyone know a quick-fix for this or at least if I can reinstall the original is on the Mac book without it kind of like windows recovery that just reinstalls the factory version of the os it was shipped with and upgrade it later ?     AV capture from VCR to macOS

    Hey everyone, thanks in advance for your help.

    My dad recently passed and I have inherited all of our home movies. Actually, about 200 college football games and maybe a dozen home movies ;)

    Anyway, I'd love to digitize them. I have a newer model MacBook Pro with USB-C ports, and I also have an older MacBook Pro with USB 2 ports. I don't know which video capture devices to trust, and I'd prefer to be future-proof and buy something that works with USB-C. Anyone have any advice or experience with this?

    I have a question concerning Time Machine

    From Apple website « The first backup may take a long time, depending on how many files you have, but you can continue using your Mac while a backup is underway. Time Machine backs up only the files that changed since the previous backup, so future backups will be faster. »

    But it said also « Time Machine automatically makes hourly backups for the past 24 hours, daily backups for the past month and weekly backups for all previous months. The oldest backups are deleted when your backup disk is full. »

    So if I understand wright, the first backup is all the system (or pretty much all the system) and then the others backups are more like snapshots of the files that changed from the preceding backup. But when the drive run out of space, and that the oldest backup is deleted, will there be files lost ?

    I mean in this scenario : - First backup with all files (file A, file B) - Second backup with file C - Third backup with file D

    And say that there gonna be a fourth backup with file E but there is no space, the oldest backup is the first backup... which contains all the first file and system changes so that gonna be lost... and the second backup contains file C so it gonna be lost too

    So do you know what happens exactly ?

    New 16" MBP keeps restarting at least once a day

    MacOS + NetGear ReadyShare

    Good afternoon,

    I'm trying to get my hard drive connect to my NetGear Router via Ready Share so that the files are accessible from both my computers on the network.

    I also have an Apple Time Capsule that I am not currently using that I can utilise as well.

    I have a Seagate Backup Plus Portable 5TB Drive.

    Format: APFS Encrypted

    My router is a NetGear C6300.

    Both my iMac and MacBook Pro are running MacOS Catalina 10.15.4

    When I connect the drive to either Mac, it recognises and can be read without issue.

    When I connect to the NetGear Router, the USB light does not turn on, it's not recognised in the NetGear Genie app or in the router settings via the browser.

    I have also noticed the drive itself makes a slight clicking noise (when I connect it back to either computer, that noise no longer occurs).

    I attempted this nearly a year ago when utilising the Apple Time Capsule and I wasn't able to view the drive on the network as well.

    Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I am open to chatting to resolve this issue as well.

    OS X could not be installed issue

    Having an issue installing OS X El Capitan system, fairly novice user of Mac so bear with me..

    Macbook air (2013) was running fairly slowly so decided to bite the bullet and wipe everything off and start again.. however, upon trying to install El Capitan, it comes up with 'No packages were eligible to install, contact system manufacturer for assistance'

    They advised me to find someone else with a Mac to download a bootable installer on to a flash drive and install it that way.. are there any other ways of going around this? Thank you in advance

    [QUESTION]Is it normal for my MacBook to always load a progress bar when booting up?

    So like the title says, every time when I boot up there is a progress bar for like 5-10 seconds and then I get to the login screen, hence this is a freshly installed os on an ssd I can't imagine it being an error, also FileVault was turned on but I turned it off to see if it will fix it but apperantly no.
